Replacements for Tom…

Well CP reported on FRL today that it was looking like DT was going to accept the job, and then went back and talked to "his camp" (who knows who that is but I think it's very safe to speculate that would include Cael). And after talking to his camp, he changed his mind. So I'd wager either Cael talked him out of it or his wife said "**** no" to living in Oklahoma. That's equally as likely to be fair... 😂

He'll also be 37 next cycle. Extremely unlikely that he'll make another run at it IMO.

I'll eat crow and partially take back my speculation regarding Cael talking him out of it. He still might've tried, but DT is ready to go from Sith Apprentice to Sith Lord.

youI was wrong on Taylor/Scott to OKST.

Not sure DT walks on water like some, but maybe he does. It will be interesting, nonetheless.

It's sad what this program has actually accomplished since 2010. The #1 reason old school Iowa wrestling is still so loved is because it equated to winning, being the best. Meanwhile the reality of Iowa wrestling since 2010 is a program that was literally sitting on top then turned to glorified mediocrity held up by memories of days long gone and the false hope of a 3 ring binder. The fact the 3 ring binder even had to be made let alone used as an instruction manual is a huge indication of this programs failures. The brief up-tick we had was overwhelmingly the result of Spencer Lee and to a lesser extent Kem. Spencer's individual success combined with saving our asses getting ADS to come here are what got us relevant again. Larry Lee also did a ton for this program.

And we still wouldn't have won without Eierman showing up on our doorstep unannounced.

Iowa wrestling is almost at the level of Nebraska football now. A lot of the TNT backers are exactly like Husker football fans. Living two plus decades in the past. Nothing to see here, we're Iowa wrestling, we're the best, we don't need to change or adapt to modern day coaching or techniques. The kid's are the same as 30 years ago, they should want to be Hawks just because we're Iowa. We'll get a 1 time 2A state champ with zero national accomplishments and get him on the podium! Blah blah blah. Instead of using the fall of Nebraska football as an example, we've become a big portion of their fan base, well at least the TNT backers. Long overdue for a complete gutting and overhaul of the program and the perfect coach to lead that change was swooped up by OSU. Fortune favors the bold!

Come on man, exaggerate much? Nebraska Football has not won a title since 98 or close to that date. Iowa won 1 a few years ago. Since 2020 Iowa has been the best team twice and 2nd and 5th. Remind you if Iowa does not have gambling gate and or wrestle true freshman they take 2nd last year. So in the last 4 years Iowa has been 1st, 1st, 2nd, 5th(should have been 2nd), and you want to compare them to Nebraska football. Step back from the ledge and lets see how we do this year.

I really don't care what he does in Stillwater, but on this board it seems to mean not winning the championship.
A pretty tall bar wouldn't you say? Some around here think getting in the running for 2nd place is pretty good. What do you think should be his near term (within the first 3 years) bar?

Don't care. Try an OSU board for that.

There is no better position other than PSU. And Carl ain't leaving for at least another 15.

He has a pretty-much unlimited budget. For recruiting, NIL and RTC.

oh. and a new facility coming. with windows
Yeah, he won't leave until he sets coaching records that are completely untouchable.

And Cael will make sure their facility is the opposite of ours. I kind of like the bat cave concept, but he will make sure his scream's "We're having fun . . . walking in the light!"

PSU’s new facility will be all windows and lights.

So what happened to the recruiting zeal that caused Brands to drive overnight to Kemerer’s house?
