Revisiting 2017 starters after Gazette article

30+ Min: JBo, Baer

20-30 Min: Moss, Cook

10-20 min: Kriener, Pemsl, Dailey, Garza, Wagner

0-10 min: Ellingson, Uhl, Nunge, CWill
I don't think any of our Big's will play 30 minutes. Kriener looks to be in line for more minutes, than the 6.9 he averaged (over 34 games), and we add Garza and Nunge. IMO Baer needs to play more consistent defense to outdo the 23.8 minutes he played last year. One minute he'd come out of nowhere, to get a block or steal, and the next he'd have someone drive past him for an easy shot. He was pretty effective overall, but had way too many defensive lapses. I'd echo that for Cook, who was really passive on defense at times.

If the returning Big's don't progress as much as they need to, defensively, the freshmen won't be at as big a disadvantage as they otherwise might. I'd be very disappointed if they don't though, because the freshman trio of Cook, Pemsl, and Kriener played an average of 18 minutes per game.

Once the season starts we'll see where Nunge and Garza are at defensively. I have read that Nunge prides himself on defense, and he did average 3.6 blocks per game as a HS Jr and Sr.

I also think Ellingson would have to be passed by Dailey, to get under 10 minutes per game. IMO Moss needs another season, to get near the 30 minute per game mark, just because he's not naturally aggressive offensively.

Agree that no one is getting 30min/game- maybe JB, but think Fran will manage it so he doesn't get enough minutes to tire him as the season goes on. This is a season where some guys could actually play better, more efficiently, and get fewer minutes. We could be that deep.

Sounds good, but who is spelling Bohannon? Williams/Dailey? The majority of the roster is guys that should be playing the 4.

Answer to your questions: yes, yes. Also suspect BE and even Moss will be tried there. Fran always tests out some odd lineups in the fall. Some of them may not work, but between the four of them we'll get JB some viable relief minutes.

Yeah I like Ellingson handling the rock some to get Bohannon off the ball. I like Ellingson starting and bringing Baer off the bench as well, but it's hard to make rotations work when you start with that lineup. Fran's got his work cut out for him this year working with these rotations.
