Rick Santorum makes it official!

Mr. Santorum has called President Obama’s foreign policy a “disaster for America,” saying the president has played down the threat of Islamic terrorism. “We need to start by crushing ISIS now,” he has said of the Islamic State, calling for the United States to “bomb them back to the seventh century.” A staunch supporter of Israel, he says Mr. Obama is wrong in pressuring that nation to seek a negotiated peace deal with the Palestinians. Mr. Santorum argues that the main threats to stability in the Middle East are what he calls the “deranged leadership” of Hamas and, more important, Iran. He names Russia and China as the other primary threats to the United States. Citing Moscow’s growing militarism, he says he would put missile defense systems in Poland and the Czech Republic.

His foreign policy stance does have a nice ring to it.

Here are some of his Senate votes on taxes:

• Voted NO on the Clinton tax hike in 1993
• Voted YES on the capital gains tax cut in 1997
• Voted NO on a cigarette tax hike in 1998
• Voted YES on repeal of the Alternative Minimum Tax in 1999
• Voted YES on the 2001 Bush tax cuts
• Voted YES to repeal the Death Tax in 2002
• Voted YES to the 2003 Bush tax cuts
• Voted YES to extend the Bush tax cuts in 2006

So far so good!

Here is his record on trade. This is decidedly mixed

Voted YES on the Oman Free Trade Agreement (FTA)
• Voted YES on CAFTA
• Voted YES on the Morocco FTA
• Voted YES on the Australia FTA
• Voted YES on the Chile FTA
• Voted YES on the Singapore FTA
• Voted YES to Trade Promotion Authority
• Voted YES to extend normal trade relations with China.

In perhaps the most important free trade vote of the last generation, Santorum voted against the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1993, perhaps the most important trade vote cast during his career in Congress. As a member of the Senate Steel Caucus, Santorum voted for and co-sponsored a bill to slap tariffs on imported steel in 1999. In 2005, Santorum voted in support of an amendment that would impose a 27.5% tariff on all Chinese imports if China didn’t readjust their currency upward.
.............................

He has also been sort of anti-regulation, voting against Dodd-Frank and against Cap and Trade. He also voted to open ANWAR to drilling. However he voted yes on Sarbanes-Oxley.

..........................

Significantly, he was one of the Senators who attempted to reign in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 2005. This effort fell on the deaf ears of Barney Frank and Maxine Waters and we all know how that played out.

Along with 24 of his colleagues, he signed a letter that read, “If effective regulatory reform legislation ... is not enacted this year, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system and the economy as a whole.”

..........................................................................

He actually looks OK. However his vote against NAFTA and for Sarbanes-Oxley indicate a vein of political expediency and a protectionist bent. He is clearly not coming at these issues through a hard-nosed belief in the underlying economics.

I guess he deserves a look, but I still prefer Jeb Bush whose record in Florida was more consistent on taxes and regulation ... and on spending (which I did not cover here, but which appears mixed.)

Please provide link of that exact example so to I see for myself?
He openly supports more and more war on false pretenses, he wants to ban porn, he's entirely WAY too fanatical with his religious takes, he's a POS pretty much. Tell me I'm wrong and cite why. I'm sure Strumm will educate you quick.

I sense anger in your words when discussing Christians...would you like to see them all "go away"...maybe in cattle cars...to an unknown destination? It seems you like porn...are you a family man?

We are about 300 trillion in debt and you worry about his religious takes?

Freaking unbelievable

I could care less about the common christian, but the second you start using religious reasoning to back your war claims you can take it up your hypocritical arses. I do like porn and yes I'm a family man. Do I need GOD to be a good family man?
Who's more righteous Tennessee, that person who doesn't need to use a mythical figure to shape his morality, or the one that does?

And you think waging more war is going to clear our debt? Because he apparently does. You do realize that our military spending and international habit of giving out foreign aid are a HUGE reason why we are in debt? You get this right? You understand? You realize that as the most powerful country in the world, we don't HAVE to use military force to always make our point correct? Can you compute this? Do you really know what you're talking about or do you simply go by what Rush tells you?

Can you think for yourself? Do you go fight these wars you want to so badly happen?

Here's Tennessee's guy at his best,.........but at least you both wear sweater vests eh?

"If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual [gay] sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything. Does that undermine the fabric of our society? I would argue yes, it does. It all comes from, I would argue, this right to privacy that doesn’t exist in my opinion in the United States Constitution. In every society, the definition of marriage has not ever to my knowledge included homosexuality. That’s not to pick on homosexuality. It’s not, you know, man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be. It's one thing."-Rick Santorum

Now that you have calmed down from your "spaz" attack let me educate you some.

Social programs drain this country much more than foreign aid.

Wars are expensive but the alternative doesn't seem to be working too well.

Barack Hussein Obama has racked up more debt than every previous President combined.

And you have the gall to call out RS?

Freaking unbelievable

“One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country. It’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. [Sex] is supposed to be within marriage. It’s supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal…but also procreative. That’s the perfect way that a sexual union should happen…This is special and it needs to be seen as special.”
~Rick Santorum, opposing contraception and frighteningly suggesting that he would make pre-marital sex illegal.

Social programs do burden the public a great bit, and I agree with that, but....military spending accounts for at least 20 or so percent of the budget. Some say A LOT more. SS is money you get back eventually btw, which accounts for about the same. The welfare is about 20 percent also, and that DOES need cut down IMO. But you can't have a serious talk about budget cutting until you start talking about our war spending. Obamas numbers are hard to measure, because for one, inflation, and two, the real cost of spending doesn't show up until years later.

Foreign aid, is usually not completely or accurately measured, why? Becaue the Federal Reserve can give out money without clarification as to where it is going.

Honestly I don't care if you or anyone else doesn't believe...seriously this is one Christian who doesn't. It used to bother me but no more. If a person wants to listen that is fine if not it is your life and your eternity. Besides you have heard the Word or have been exposed to it so I can't be guilty for your rejection...besides people in China are coming to the Lord in droves so when they do eventually take us over it is possible I will once again live in a Christian nation.

Civil war? What war?
Iraq war, he claimed that he was proud of that he voted for the Iraq war and that he'd do it again. You know that war that killed 3,000 of our boys, killed about 1,000,000 Iraqis, burdened us with trillions in debt, and is still a completely F'd part of the world?

Yeah, he's proud of that. Some christian huh? Did Jesus preach war? Does GOD like war?

Christian nation huh? How proud of us would God be Tennessee? How many wars have been involved in that we shouldn't have been? Would he be proud that we killed other human beings? Isn't there a commandment about that?

Thou shalt not kill? Does that only count unless your government says it's okay to go and do it? Unless you have a badge on?

How much hate do we spew against each other everyday? Simply because of difference in opinion, skin color, culture, etc?

You ever read the bible Tennessee?

Reality meet HawktimusPrime, you do realize sooner or later we will need to take up arms against ISIS I mean a real all out war maybe it won't be until they have swarmed over Europe much like the Nazi's did in WW II but it will happen in our lifetime and it will be bad, very bad for all involved.

You're part of life Tennessee, and in the end you're responsible for your actions, you're responsible for your fate, you're the one who decides what kind of person you are. Not god, not some stupid book. Humans look to the Bible because they are afraid that it is the only thing that can vindicate them. BS. Life is special with or without a god.

Fate is simply the fact that once you made your decision and took action with it, you can't change that decision. I do not fear the fact that we may be alone in this universe, I fear the fact that we can't recognize that we are part of the special circle of life and for some reason that isn't good enough.

ISIS vs. the western world? Sorry this is the age of technology, and they aren't even close to being on our level. The only way ISIS becomes this threat you think they are is the day Russia and China decide to back them up. Where are they going to get the money? The weapons?

It is faith and acceptance of God's laws and the belief in a better world through Christ that makes life special. I have long accepted that...and I will not waver one inch from it.

You overestimate the will of Europeans to fight, our technology is useless when fighting in populated urban areas.

The streets of Paris was tree lined so the German army could march in the shade as they took Paris in about 5 minutes, todays Europeans have no stomach for fighting, they would rather swear allegiance to Allah than fight.

Hawk Prime...you have acknowledged your rejection of Christianity...please refrain from using the argument that something is "un Christian" if you don't believe in the first place. Its like an atheist using the Bible to try and prove his/her point.

What's really scary is there are a lot more people like Arbitr8. Fox/Conservative fans who are convinced that Muslims are going to take over the world.

Santorum will pander to that fear of Muslims more than any candidate on the list. Santorum is one of the most frightened human beings in American politics. He is ideal for a Theocracy... like Iran has. It's ironic how he is so afraid of Iran, yet, if he had his way, America would be a Christian Theocracy that would resemble the Middle Ages. It's also funny how his religion is turning against him. This guy really dislikes Pope Francis. Rick Santorum is filled with shame, guilt, and fear. I feel sorry for his kids.

Point out your hypocrisy is on you, not me. You're the one who say she follows the Bible, yet you believe in our unjust war. Not believing in Chrisitianity has nothing to do with understanding the bibles 'teachings'.

The French are notorious defeatists...Charles Martel has been shamed.

Why? No cut and paste use some original material.

Why wouldn't he abhor this POS. This guy wants America to live, under law, the way he believes. In other words, he wants everyone to live like good little Christians. Any politicians, and I mean anyone, that wants to force their social beliefs on this country needs to take a hike. Feel free to live life the way you believe, but do not try to force it on others.

Santorum is scum.
