Is Boyle still projected as a QB or could he potentially switch to another position?

From people I have talked to, they say he is the best QB from the state of Iowa ever!!! They saw him play in high school and said there has not been a QB like him from Iowa. Said he has a strong arm, with the running ability to make you respect both. I think he will be a strong #2 next year behind CJB.

Not sure I'd go that far but have watched him since 5th grade. He is a QB.

He will be the back up qb by the end of supporting and it will be his job to lose once Beathard graduates. I hope he's soaking up Beathard's intangibles while he waits his turn tho.

I have my doubts about him playing QB effectively at this level of football. He will get a chance to prove it after CJ.

I've actually heard he is 4th.. Weigers and cook are/were performing better then him. And with Stanley coming in, who is said to be a steal at the qb position.

Hmm.....Kurt Warner and Kyle Orton called and said hey.

MtnDewFever: Thanks for starting this thread. You read my mind.

Here's what I see happening: Ryan Boyle will move to Wide receiver, this season.
His ability, in space, great feet and vision will allow him to help the HAWKEYES, at WR, where
there's at least, some need.

Then, next season, Ryan Boyle, a very versatile and talented guy, can transition back to
QB, if that's his best position. We need to get Boyle on the field soon.

Jesus. Now it's getting ridiculous. WR? Really? This has to be parody. Tell me you are just joking around.

If there were a position move, it would be safety or, if he gained a lot of weight, LB.

Hmm.....Kurt Warner and Kyle Orton called and said hey.

I realize those two QB's were good, but they were not dual threat QB's. They were pocket passers and yes they were very good. The coaches I have talked to coached against both Warner and Orton. Hell even the other kid who went to Purdue as well. So these coaches have been coaching in the state of Iowa for 25-30 years and when they say he is the best ever, I will take their word for it.

They just said his feet are quick and he has the arm strength to make the throws. So take it whats its worth, I think he will be a good one.

Time will tell. May be the best in high school, especially with his running ability. But the next question is when he gets up against complex defenses, can he make the right reads, can he stay in the pocket, or does he get nervous feet and run before he keeps his eyes down field, and can he throw accurately on the run, on the swing touch passes, and on the deep balls? A lot of difference when you get to the next level. I think I will wait and see. Not going to give him the Heisman Trophy yet, and not going to call him a bust.

Hey ICU..........your kidding us right??
Ever hear of former Quarterbacks moving to Wide receiver?

Ever heard of Marvin McNutt, Ed Hinkel, DJK or even the kid from
Clemson, this year? Good grief / wise up

others, not IA:
Indy....A Randall el
OSU...Terrell Pryor and Braxton Miller
Nebby...Eric Crouch and Scott Frost
UGA.....Hines Ward
etc, etc etc......yes, QBs can make WR's, not a parody. More frequent in the NFL.

LMAO at those Boyle-fans thinking he'll be our #2 next year.....seriously, L---M---A---O!!!!!

First I have heard of Cook ahead of him
That was back in September last I heard. Things can change as a kid develops.. But cook was more accurate, I know they have no plans on switching cook for now. When Stanley comes in maybe they move both Boyle and cook..

This is the first I have heard Cook is ahead of Boyle. I remember it was mentioned Boyle was getting the reps with the second team when CJB wasn't practicing much late in the year.

His arm isn't that strong (he's short and has to jump and twist his entire body into any throw, just to get some zip on it), and while an outstanding high school talent, the offense that he was playing in at Dowling is about 180 degrees diametrically opposed to the one that he currently finds himself in. It is true that he was one of the greatest Iowa high school QBs in history, but so was Noah Clayberg, and that will do each of them exactly jack squat at the next level.

The only way this guy ever sees the field here (as a QB) is if we completely re-tool the offense into the complete opposite of what it is now. There is absolutely no way that Boyle possess the skill set to have success here the way the offense is currently constructed. Take a look at the physical profiles of every scholarship QB that will be on the roster next year, and tell me which one sticks out like a sore thumb.

I'd suggest that you start packing, then. He will play WR.
Make book on it
He ain't a WR. 6' 215, not fluid or fast enough runner for it. Yes he can run the ball, but if there is any change I see him as a safety, SS type. I do agree that his "shot put"/push" release is an issue especially when your a shorter QB. I hope he gets to play his dream position & be the best ever, but he may need a ton of patience w all the decent QBs we will have on roster this yr.
We will see I bet.

Ok. I will take that bet. If Boyle is ever a starting WR, I will leave this site forever.

If Boyle never starts a game at WR, you leave the site forever.

No new handles.

Deal?

Since I have not seen Boyle play, are you basing his arm strength on his stature, or have you actually seen the kid play? Size isn't everything, Boyle is listed as 6'2" and I remember a young man named Drew Tate who was only 6'0 and had a rather lively arm. Hell, even Joe Montana didn't have a great arm, but he was a winner and made plays.

When cjb was hurt and not taking reps weigers was taking reps with first and 2nd team. Cook and Boyle where splitting reps. Now between Boyle and cook one does fit what ferentz like and the other fits what Davis likes.. And between the 2 it will come down to understanding the playbook.. But neither one of these guys will jump weigers. Weigers is the real deal, real strong arm, is more mobile then you would think. Stanley should be consider a 4 star on all sites not just one. I personally don't think Boyle and cook will play qb hopefully I'm wrong for their sake. But between the 2 I think cook transition to another position better the. Boyle.

#2 receiver possibly, or #2 split end; Here's hoping we see Ryan Boyle on the field, next year.
However, it would be extremely unlikely that it's as QB. Very likely at WR.

I like his dual QB abilities and the game has changed to the point to where his style will thrive best in college.

Every time we have this thread it is clear who has actually seen him play while at Dowling. He isn't a QB for this offense at all. I've said it before but I have no idea why he chose Iowa. I get why Iowa wanted him as KF loves athletic QBs.
