I think fans are going to like him!

By the looks of it, this would be in descent.

Pick the response:

A. Yeah, but that's against short guys!
B. How tall is he?
C. No wonder he high jumped 6' in track!
D. And the sad part is he was up there for 20 seconds waiting for the pass.
E. Some "Flubber " type thing going on there!
F. He's not ranked that high! The jump must be a mistake.
G. "He picks up a bus and he throws it back down as he makes his way to the center of towwwn!!!"

H. I believe I can fly...
I. White men CAN TOO jump!!

I can already see Fran's face getting beet red after he gets T'd up for hanging on the rim.

Haha there's about ten jaw drops goin on there. Had to of been a monster of a play.

Too bad we dont have the corresponding video to go w/ the pic. Let me try n break it down. The ball's already out of the picture so either he dunked it immediately w/ authority or he went up for an alley oop but it was a bad pass. It looks like he used two hands to pull himself up and this pic was taken after he pulled himself up n let go of the rim w/ one hand.
Looks to me like we'll FINALLY have a big w/ some hops. And that's not even mentioning the addition of Cook. Fran is the man. That's all you can say. Hopefully Pemsl will bounce back from his surgery. Wow what a class we have coming in, to add to this year's PLUS two redshirt freshmen.

I hope this guy works out well, but last fall I watched him get owned by a kid going to Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.

I'm skeptical at this point but I trust Fran and the guys know what they're doing. As they always say, you can't teach height.

The 2nd game between Kriener and Van Lingen (assuming he's the guy you're referring to) was almost a stale mate. I know Van Lingen's a good player , but I don't believe he's made it onto any national recruiting sites.
Just overlooked?
Didn't make a big splash on the AAU circuit?
Perhaps recruiters think he's peaked?
Van Lingen didn't have a ton of interest in going the big school route? (nothing wrong with that; Dordt's a fine school and obviously close to home for him)

I'm just curious, because Kriener had several offers (yes, mostly mid-major) but I don't believe that Van Lingen garnered much attention (other than Dordt and some other small schools perhaps). Personally, I think he has the talent to play at a higher level, but I'm just an amateur.

Yea, Van Lingen is another in the long line of Western Bball players that, in my modest opinion, would've made good mid-major players.

Hell, look at Western Illinois last night, you can't tell me somebody like Van Lingen couldn't start for a team like that. At the end of the day though, I think your last point is the crux, they just don't have the interest to go out and end up at a mid major like that. Kind of an all or nothing sort of mentality. They can end up at Dordt and still have a pretty fun, successful college career and I guess that's what it's all about.

To be fair, Van Lingen may win both battles this year as well. Western will be one of the best teams in the state (all classes)and can probably go 12 deep. Their coach will have a plan to negate Kriener and make someone else beat them. Western has several bigs 6'7" or taller. Those double teams will be very tough to get thru. SL looks to be playing several sophomores, and that's a steep learning curve playing against Western.

I can actually point to a similar situation. My wife (no pics) went to CR Kennedy in the early 80s and knows Al Lorenzen, Jeff Hrubes, et al. Hrubes coincidentally began as a scholarship player for Western Illinois and probably would've done just fine at a mid-major, but instead transferred to Coe where he had a very nice career. He even ended up playing 'exhibition ball' for teams like Marathon Oil and Pella Windows for several years against the likes of Iowa, Drake, UNI, etc. So, going the large school route may not be for everyone, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

Those little schools have some fun environments. Most people would rather be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond.

On a Kreiner note, in the course of my 30 hour Hawkeye marathon of phone calls Friday and Saturday I talked to a friend that was at Kreiner's first game. Said he looked huge and all over the boards. Now granted we were both pretty high on Hawkeye herion, and Kreiner was a lot bigger than the other players, my take away was sleeper. The quote of the conversation was mixed...."think about Cougill, only bigger and a better athlete". Love to hear from people that have seen this kid play.

You know, if Cougill had more motivation he could've been a fine Big Ten player. He certainly had a decent outside shot for a big man and was quite a good outlet passer.

Cougill was Likliter's biggest failing. That kid should have played until he dropped or fouled out. He should have mostly played in the low post where he had good moves and footwork. Of course, Big Cougs had a hard time keeping his you know what together. Had Cougill remained eligible I think McC could have turned him into a serviceable center and Iowa would have been a better squad. He certainly had more skill than the BromArch.

I was surprised an average Cr kennedy team with no height beat them Sat afternoon after losing to sioux city north the Friday night before. Held their team to 50 points. Not a great sign.

The team that Spirit Lake played in their first game is ranked in the bottom 5% of all Iowa high school basketball teams, all classes, #327 in the BC Moore Iowa rankings out of 360-something teams in Iowa-. with no player over 6-2 or 6-3. Pretty much everybody that Spirit Lake plays the rest of the year will be much better than that outfit. CR Kennedy is picked by most as the 5th best team in the MVC Conference of 14 teams., so that is good competition. The toughest team on their schedule is probably Western Christian with Van Lingen and crew, whom they play twice. Spirit Lake has upgraded their schedule and plays several teams with higher enrollments than they have. I hope Ryan and his team do very well, but he simply does not face the caliber of competition that fellow Iowa recruits Bohannon, Pemsl and Cook from St. Louis Chaminade face. Those last three players play on teams that each have the most difficult schedules in their size classes. I'm happy he was a success in the AAU circuit, because that really tells us how he can play.

Saw Kriener highlights on TV last night. Did a 2 handed dunk, something Woody can not do.

It's pretty clear he pulled himself up on the rim after the dunk. I hope everyone here realizes that before taking shots of Hawkeye koolaid
Bobby Hansen on guarding Darrell Griffith, "I've played against guys who can jump before but the rest of them always came back down again". Bobby said that after the first game in the 1980 Final Four against Louisville.
