Sam LaPorta's play in the NFL as a test case for BF

Again ... great use between the 30s.

H and F isn't the comparison that works for the point you're making. Fant sat on the bench in the NW game and Iowa ended up barely scoring and lost that game.

People need to start defending BF, it's getting sad.
It works extremely well. They were the top two TEs in the country that year, and last year LaPorta caught more balls than either of them did in 2018.

The problem for BF has never been about using the TEs. Except for 2019, it has been about the WRs.

Laporta was underutilized in the TD department, which is sort of the goal of an offense. I would agree that Petras threw a lot to Laporta, but the real problem was the cast of Talent outside of Laporta was poor. The offensive coordinator (BF) is not very good at his job and the head coach limits what his offensive coordinators can do so that the product is the worst in P5 over the last 3 years.

Kittle on the otherhand was a Athletic Freak that never fit in to the KF model and he was definitely underuitilized during his 4 year career at Iowa.
George didn't really mature physically or mentally until later in his hawkeye career. He also battled some injuries. He loves everything about Iowa.

Everyone now sees how much of a weapon Sam is. He's amazing!

But in a BF and KF run offense, he caught .... a total of ........... ONE TD.

If this doesn't reveal how poor BF and KF are at coaching and running an O .... nothing will reveal to you.
LaPorta was the Big 10 tight end of the year last year. It's like you are saying he is great now in the NFL in spite of Brian and Kirk Ferentz. You can make a million arguments as to why Brian Ferentz is not doing a good job. TE development is not one of them.

Curious if Lachey will come back for a medical redshirt or go pro.

I don't see ANY causal connection between what BF and KF are doing and how that results in Sam's abilities and accomplishments as a TE. What we ALL see is what happens when a coach KNOWS what they are doing. Sam is putting up amazing numbers in the NFL against the best players in football.

The fact that Sam was TE of the year in the B10 is not evidence for BF's development abilities, but rather how GOOD Sam is, in spite of BF.

Again, the point of this post is COMPARING what he's doing now in the NFL and the kind of production he did at Iowa. If Iowa had a decent OC, it's difficult to gage how good Sam could have really been in college. He'd been the Mackey Award winner for sure.
