What an excellent tourney by Brooks...he pinned Steveson, was a point away from bonusing Jackson, and housed young Martin. All in all, that's some damn good wrestling. I may be wrong but this is an example of a guy wrestling to win, not to lose and I think he has turned the corner mentally. One thing I caught in an interview after the semis is he doesn't want to be the guy that looks in the mirror after its all done and say "Man, if I would have done this or that..."

I'll pile on in this positive thread. Hats off to Sammy -- 2x Big Ten champ in a weight class that has been very tough for most of his time at Iowa. He's notched a bunch of high-quality wins over absolute studs -- some in very dominant fashion -- over his career. Now it's time for him to peak at Nationals and really show what he can do on the biggest stage. He looks primed and ready to do just that. Very happy for him.

Sammy looks like a man on a mission he is looking better each match wrestling with confidence I loved how wrestled this season very aggressive and he is not letting off the gas .. I did not think anyone could give Dean a run this year I was wrong Brooks can and I'm tired of hearing about little boy Bo .. Sammy got caught it won't happen again ... Your the man Sammy keep it up......!

Stellar tourney. I truly was not that concerned about Martin, we match up so well with him. This bracket in STL is going to be insane, very little room for error.

& the true measure will be how he wrestles on the backside (hopefully he doesn't get there).

Sammy has brought an exciting style to the upper weights at Iowa in his time, that's for certain. He's had a few occasions where just poor wrestling from a mental standpoint has done him in (he's his own worst enemy type of thing), and frankly he's had some piss-poor luck and some equally piss-poor officiating go against him at Nationals. Very seldom does he not "bring it". And you typically better be pretty darn good yourself if you're going to get the best of him.

Hope to see him wrestle his very best in his last attempt and let the chips fall where they may. He's capable of doing some great things, I think he's proven that on multiple occasions. Hopefully "head-scratcher" Sammy stays home in a couple of weeks. Great Big Ten run young man!

that young man sitting with sammies dad was certainly "impressed" with his performance

And that young man's sister was impressed with Gilman's performance.

Perfect thread for a first post, Sammy has been one of my favorite hawks and I'm so happy for him and the fashion he won his second BIG tournament. He has always laid it on the line for this program win or lose and I applaud him for it. Thank you Sammy I'll be there in St. Louis cheering for you and the rest of our boys!!

Sammy, may the mullet continue to bring the "Samson strength". Ha! I love watching him wrestle and I hope he keeps it rolling.

Personally I cant wait until he beats Gabe Dean. Dean is obviously the only road block to his natty.
Nickal and Dudley as well as Dean would not be good match-ups for Sammy in terms of style, but he looks very impressive at the moment.

Agree, Brooks looked terrific. I was only upset he couldn't put together another interview like he did in 2016... Will be interesting to see if he can keep that momentum going into NCAA's. At his best he can take out just about anybody. At his worst... well he should AA regardless I think. The question is how high.

Brooks has taken it to a new level this year. I'd still pick him to get 3rd, but he is starting to make me believe that I might be selling him short. He has handled some very good opponents recently

Brooks looked terrific, the best I have ever seen him wrestle.

I think he matches up better with Dean than anybody else in the field does. He is one of the few people who can stand in there and handfight with him.
