Well with the way he played the game before it is just as well
I was wondering this, too. I couldn't find anything about it in the game thread.
Sandfort had kind of lost his flow lately. He'll bounce back

Pat was back, Connor played well, and Iowa shot great without him. If shots weren’t dropping, I bet Payton would have gotten more minutes
I hope he can get minutes Sunday. Iowa will need him in the tournaments!
Love Sandfort but with a more limited rotation last night, our offense was flowing.
More minutes for Connor now means Peyton probably doesn't get too many minutes going forward.

With CMAC, jbo, and Perkins all shooting better, the need for Sandfort 3pt shooting goes down. The "3" where he plays is really crowded with Kris, PMAC, CMAC alll getting some of those minutes.
I think PMAC sat in 2nd half because he is coming off health issue + he managed to get two of his 3pt shots blocked by Dickinson.

Loved Frans rotation last night. He realized the starters were destroying Michigan and managed their minutes, sneaking in breathers here and there. He realized Rebracca wasn't getting it done to start the second half and got him out. It wasn't the bench's night except for Kris.
It is when he over relies on the starters when they aren't playing great. That is when problems pop up.
I would expect the same thing against Illinois on the road. The bench will get their shot midway through the first half and go from there. Sandfort might get a few minutes but he might be the odd man out in the post season.

Sandfort will be a big piece next year, especially if Kris leaves. For now, I'm ok with him coming in only as needed.

His release is very slow - too slow if he wants to get to the next level. He needs to get stronger and cut down on some of the movement before he releases it.

Sandfort may play limited minutes down the stretch but he's going to be a significant guy next season as a deep threat. Kris may replicate Keegan's outside shooting (already shoots a couple % points higher from 3, granted lower volume). But as good as Kris might be, you can't expect him to provide the same overall scoring threat. And with Bohannon gone there will be limited options from deep.
Sandfort, Kris, maybe PMac can hit ~36%. Perkins, Ulis, and JoeT all shoot poorly from deep. Not sure if Dix will be healthy with his leg injury. If Iowa brings in a transfer G/F who can shoot a decent percentage, that'd be a significant roster addition.

Kris is shooting 40% I think. Looking for that to go up if he stays.

Does Pats shot seem to come slower than other players shooting 3"s?
In the last couple of games it appeared to me that Payton has been rushing his shots and not in balance. He's much more effective when he gets his feet under him and goes up straight instead of leaning toward the basket. Then again maybe he was not feeling well last night, whatever the reason HAWKS WIN, HAWKS WIN, HAWKS WIN....on the Champaign...

I think Payton will just need one more offseason to truly be ready. He's gonna be really good for us next season too.
Bottom line, Sandfort has skills. Little bit of a shooting slump right now but he’ll snap out of it. Can use both hands around the basket. Kris needs to become more effective with his right hand like Keegan is with his left.
He started the second half IIRC, but came out after that second jumper he had blocked at around the under 16 timeout to not return. Not sure if anything was aggravated or if Fran just felt like Pat didn’t look 100% and opted for Connor instead though
I like the JBO and Perkins combo on the floor. If Payton comes in and hits his first one he plays confident and really adds to the offense. I wish Ulis could shoot from the outside better.
Ulis does so many little things well, especially rebounding and defending. I think his shot will come around when the game slows down for him. Right now he's still pushing a little too hard on offense.

In another thread, Kenyon said all three of them are lefties. But Keegan took to heart Kenyon's advice about learning to use both hands. He said Kris was 'stubborn' and didn't work at it.
Let us not forget that Keegan IS left handed, but just plays (shoots) predominantly right handed like Kenyon did.
Sandfort will hit his stride when both he and his brother are on the floor together.
I really like Sandfort but I love that Fran isn't just putting someone in because they have a set number of minutes to play. Jbo was hitting shots, Perkins was making baskets, Keagan was Keagan, and Kris was getting to the rim.
I don't think Peyton lacks any confidence. If anything hes a little bit overconfident.
He really wants to get shots up and sometimes goes too fast.

Excellent observation and I thought the same thing. Game needs to slow down for him. He'll get there.
Keegan is going to be a lottery pick this year. If he came out last year, at best he would have been a late second round pick. Kris this year, in my opinion, would be a late second round pick or not drafted at all, but, next year would have the opportunity to blow up the boards like Keegan did. The difference in money and security is gigantic, and in Fran's system he will have every opportunity to score 20-25 points per game like Keegan has, especially playing his natural position replacing Keegan rather than playing out of position out of necessity.
I'm not sure this is accurate. Keegan was being projected as a top 10 pick BEFORE this season even started.
Also, Sandfort's defense is still coming around. This late in the season, he's just not gonna be used as much other than to spell some guys and maybe catch fire from 3.
Just because Keegan was mocked by a few people prior to this season as a top 10 pick does not mean he would have been a top 10 pick last year. Where he would have gone last year in the draft is something nobody will win an argument with, however, I think we can all agree that Keegan improved his stock dramatically by coming back for another year. I think Kris would have every opportunity to do the same thing if he comes back as well, because we all know he would be the featured player next season.
