*** Saturday Conference Championships Thread ***

Gabriel would slaughter our defense. He's so quick we'd never get a glove on him and he'd pick the secondary apart like vultures picking the carcass of a dead water buffalo.
Yeh...but shaggy would pick apart Oregons defense so it would be a wash 😃

They did it to an undefeated ACC team, they'll do it to an 11-2 one.

Wonder if some of these conferences will realize that having a conference championship game hurts their playoff chances more often than it helps.

If the ACC named the champion based on regular season. It's SMU and they are in the playoffs.

Now.... Probably no ACC team

The thing is not long ago NOT having a CCG used to hurt the top teams because they would get jumped by conference champs.

Now they're possibly hurting the bubble teams.

Penn State looks to be crumbling. Too many mistakes against the number one team in the country.

Just shorten the regular seasons to something like 8 to 10 games [nothing but games vs own conference opponents], while making it a full 64-team playoff - ala the bball NCAA Tourney - and be done with it.

I mean, if we're gonna actually label fringe contenders as "bubble teams", that's where we're ultimately gonna end up anyways right?

After seeing the wear and tear of these CCG games, particularly between two teams who are getting in the field anyhow. I wonder if Ohio State, Notre Dame, Alabama or Indiana really feel bad about missing playing in one.

Yeah the winner gets a bye. But they are playing an extra game to get a neutral site second round game. Meanwhile they are playing another neutral site game against a really good team. Penn State will be worse for wear, same for Texas. Meanwhile Ohio State gets to sit at home and get another home game because they lost to a mediocre Michigan squad.

Oregon has some Iowa in 'em.

Can't put a team and game away for good (at least not tonight).

While what you say is true, getting a home game in the playoffs tacks one more on the total you gotta win to win it all.

IE, The Top 4 only need to win 3 games to be national champs & the other 8 have to win 4 games.

That's the thing about a team like oregon, even when the D doesn't show up they still have a good chance to win with an O that can light up the scoreboard.

Good point. Four elimination games. My point is based off physical toll. Is an elimination game at home vs an SMU harder than a CCG against a Texas or Penn State? Rust will also be a factor imo.

Oregon, Georgia, Boise and ASU(?) will be off for a month. They'll be playing against a Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Clemson or whomever that just played the week before. It's going to be interesting.

Come on Franklin. Score the touchdown and miss the conversion. As somebody with no rooting interest, I want chaos.
