Scheel = Treye Jackson?

reminds me of Tony Moeaki. Dangerous weapon on game day but constantly rehabbing one injury after another so very rarely 100%.

TM contributed in several games..don't think JS has seen the field yet

Scheel is expected to finally play this week, yes? They just held him back for precautionary reasons right?

I believe I heard his injury is the hamstring. If so, those are so darn touchy. Who knows when and how much he'll see the field...

When he finally sees the field all of the uninformed posters taking cheap shots at him now will be silenced. This is a stand-up kid with tremendous talents and ethics.

I am not questioning his ethics. The situation just reminded me of Jackson in that there is a lot of hype for an instate guy, but he never seems to see the field.

Jay is a tremendously talented player, a potential game changer. In a post prior to the season opener I proposed that he could be the missing piece to a B10 title. Jay should be an all-conference receiver. During Fall camp, I stated here that Scheel would make worried Hawkeye fans quickly forget Tevuan Smith.

Could, should, would. You can't make plays standing next to the Gatorade bucket. Hopefully, the injuries will soon be behind him and (knock on wood) he starts catching passes and scoring TDs. Man will it be disappointing if injuries dog him his entire career.

Its probably unfair to point out the missed time so far. Scheel is only a rSoph and has most of his college career still ahead of him. Surgery on both knees sidelined him his redshirt freshman year.

Coming off of redshirt, he has played briefly in only two of the fifteen games he has been eligible, mostly due to lingering injuries. In his absence, coaches initially turned to true freshman Jerminic Smith. After being named starter on Monday, JSmith replaced Scheel again on Saturday. Jay still has zero receptions at Iowa.

I wonder if he is just unlucky or otherwise prone to injury.. Scheel was THE story this Spring. Healthy and making big plays all over the field. CJB and the coaches talked him up during Fall camp. I am really excited to see what he can do but, for me, the hype is fading a bit and I admit I'm a little skeptical that he has the durability to make it through an entire season.

Just wait at little longer, JR...it will be worth it.

Beginning of soph year. Let it play out

Treye Jackson was a RB from Newton, graduated in 1981. The most ballyhooed Iowa high school football player since Jerry Moses. He had offers from Oklahoma, Alabama, etc. He might have been at Iowa for three seasons, maybe two. They tried him at d-back before he transferred. I don't remember him having a history of injuries at UI, could have though, it was a long time ago.

I totally agree. But for how long? That is the only question in my mind.

I meant for how long once he returns? If your answer is that only God knows. That implies that God has something to do with it. To that I say this: torment somebody else for awhile.

It would be a very positive sign if he could string 3 or 4 consecutive games without injury.

I'm pretty good at predicting predictable things...but college football injuries is not one of those things.

Pretty sure Trey had a neck injury which ended his football days.

FWIW a high school buddy of mine beat him in the 200 (or 220) at the state finals in '80.

Statistically, he is basically the same as Mo Brown and Marvin McNutt after one game gone in his sophomore year.

McNutt had thrown 3 passes and caught 6 passes through the 1st game of his Sophomore season.. listed as the 3rd string QB after his redshirt season..switched to wr in that redshirt fresh season..I guess you could say "basically", but McNutt actually accumulated some stats at 2 different positions..and Scheel saw action in 2 games and accumulated zero stats.

Wow, tell me you got the point? There are plenty of examples of players that emerge later in their careers than one game into there sophomore year. Pat Angerer is another example of a guy whose career was dead and buried his sophomore year due to injures. I'm not saying Scheels is one of those guys, but people are talking like he is a 5th year senior.

If I'm Scheel, I would figure out a way to get on the field on Saturdays. New Kirk still wants reliability and consistency. If he can't count on a guy, he ain't gonna play.

What good is an Indy 500 engine that is the most powerful Indy racing engine ever if it always blows up? Sure, you keep developing it...but in the mean time, Ol' Reliable is gonna be entered. And if it wins races, sooner or later, you're just gonna stick with the one that got you there.
