Now that Gross is no longer an Iowa wrestler, I feel less restrained to say that his inability to keep guys off his legs, combined with his reluctance to initiate his own offense, drove me crazy. More often than not, his offense was letting guys get to his legs, working to get them extended, and then going around behind. He was a 3x Minnesota champ so I'm not saying he wasn't talented, but I was not a fan of the style (gimme Turk, Stoker or Kemerer instead) and I am doubtful whether it is a strategy for long-term success against top-flight competition. Whether it's Ryan or Carton, if they are active on offense and stay in good position, I bet they will have success against Gross.
