I live in Libertyville not to far from Carmel catholic HS. I talked to a one of the dads at my kids NVA BB game this am that knows the Fosters. His kids go to Hawthorn school and will go to Carmel. We were talking Iowa FB in general ( hes an SIU fan) and he says Sean would have liked to go to Iowa his 1st choice but apparently Ferentz not intersted? Just curious because it so close to home. The guy is huge and just wondering why not. Sorry if this has been covered bf.

Iowa had Foster in camp and didn't like what they saw so they didn't offer. Not sure why, but no one knows OL better than Ferentz.

Iowa really needs tackles; so if I had to guess the coaches probably thought he didn't move well enough or wasn't athletic enough to play tackle.

KF is criticized to nausea, one thing most will give him benefit of the doubt is when it comes to identifying OL and developing OL.....it appears Foster did not have the attributes Iowa was looking for, nothing more nothing less. He may fit better in another system but with Iowa's zone blocking scheme and Brian's new Gap scheme hybrid (with pulling lineman) the OL Iowa identify has certain mobility and leverage traits that apparently Foster did not have (I am assuming here)

From what I heard he camped at Iowa a few times and wanted an offer. Ferentz didn't see what he needed so he didn't offer. And if there is one thing Ferentz knows, it's O-line. We're happy to have him at Iowa State and he will be the headliner of our class. But the fact that Ferentz didn't offer is a red flag.

I wouldn't call it a red flag. KF is looking for guys who specifically fit their zone blocking scheme, which is often smaller, quicker linemen.

Yeah when it comes to OL in KF I trust.

3 or 4 years ago there was 4* OL from Illinois. I think his last name Bobek and he was basically begging for an Iowa offer and Iowa never offered.

He had some nice offers and signed with Ohio St. He never played a down for OSU and has transferred.

Iowa got to see plenty of Foster and did not offer. Plus the fact that no other big programs offered Foster shows me Rivals have his over rated. He was down to two bottom feeders in ISU and Purdue.

It is truly nice to hear from a rational ISU fan. Most fans that come here make the kid sound like the next Tony Bosseli

Surprised to see the comment about needing tackles badly. I was unaware of this. Can you expound? Thanks MW.

Most of the recent recruits on the o-line have been 6'5" or under. Tackles are ideally taller. That is the obvious physical characteristic that stands out as why they are looking for tackles. Probably a speed element in there too where tackles need the agility to take on speed rushers on the edge.

Another myth. Everybody uses zone blocking, and everybody wants quicker linemen, as big as they can get them.

But...........Iowa will take quickness over giant size unlike Wisconsin. And some of this is due to late game stamina. Doyle like to create great strength without the giant size. (This information was revealed to me by a 3 year starter on the OL.)

I think some posters are over-evaluating their knowledge. It's enough for me to know that KF clearly knows what he wants when it comes to OL, and he didn't want Foster. Doesn't mean the kid won't be a fine player elsewhere. Just means ISU didn't "beat" Iowa for his services.

Don't know why people are obsessed with this kid? just because he is a legacy recruit doesn't mean he is going to turn out to be any good.
