*****Seattle 4 Regional Discussion: #1 Stanford LOSES to #8 Ole Miss, Opening Door for #2 IOWA (Next Game: Fri, 6:30 pm CT, ESPN)*****

what was the Texas player saying?
I believe she repeated "Honorable Mention", "Honorable Mention" multiple times - in reference to Van Lillith not being named the First, Second, Third Team All-American; which I believe she made one of those teams last year, at least in some publications.

I really liked the way Van Lillith handled it - both in line and her post-game press conference when asked about it.

Really a stupid, petty comment by the Texas player.

She was saying call me a bitch again.

Iowa a significant betting favorite to win their region.

It is kind pf crazy how Snarky womens basketball has become. Both the players and the coaches evidently. I guess they think they need to be just like the guys to be recognized.....

I'd think the cheap shots and trash talking by Georgia would have started something with a lot of men's basketball teams. Definitely in the NBA. Iowa showed some class as did Van Lilith in her interview. Texas should shut up. After you get your butt handed to you like that it's time to be humble and let it go.

If they try to defend Clark with Sherrod at half or full court that could be an advantage for us. Sherrod is a very good defender, but she can also get into foul trouble. If she has to go to the bench for an extended period, that's advantage Iowa.
It's only a foul if they call it. We will see🤞

I predict that Kate Martin will break out of a mini scoring slump this weakend. She is due. min. 15pts vs. Colorado, Iowa advances..
Before the Georgia game, I predicted that that Kate Martin would be the one to step up, thus proving my predictive powers. I will go along with nu2u and slide my prediction over to the Colorado game for Kate, while allowing Marshall to have another good game as a threat from the three-point line. Keeping Marshall a threat occupies a defender and opens things up for others.

Yeah, Gabbie's great shooting has altered equations and forced opponents to defensively adjust... or pay. I bet Gabbie has been elevated on scouting reports and her 3PT shooting boldfaced. It should, as you say, open things up for Martin (and Warnock).

You think Colorado has her listed as more than “pretty eyes”? 🤩

6 of the Top 25 players in the Sweet 16 are in the Seattle 4 Region.

3 of the 6 are Hawkeyes.

Why not us?

ESPN.com: Ranking the Top 25 players in the Women's Sweet 16

1. Caitlin Clark, Iowa

G | 6-foot | junior | Previous: 1
2022-23 stats:
26.8 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 8.6 APG

Clark's passing (24 assists) has been as much of a key to Iowa's two NCAA tournament victories as her scoring (48 points). After cruising against SE Louisiana in the first round, the Hawkeyes were tested by Georgia's defense. Clark was able to keep her cool against the Lady Bulldogs even when things got tense, scoring the last six points in a 74-66 victory. This will be her second Sweet 16 appearance; the other was in her freshman season. -- Voepel

12. Hailey Van Lith, Louisville

G | 5-foot-7 | junior | Previous: NR
2022-23 stats:
19.5 PPG, 3.2 APG

Van Lith's stellar start to the NCAA tournament has Louisville eyeing a fifth-consecutive Elite Eight berth. She is averaging 23.5 points on 51.4% shooting, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals over the first two games, and her clutch shot-making was critical for the Cardinals to outlast a tough Drake squad. Louisville needs more contributors around her and must play outstanding on the defensive end should it wish to return to the Final Four for the second consecutive year. But there's no doubt Van Lith is the head of the snake; when she gets going, she and Louisville can be difficult to stop. -- Philippou

14. Monika Czinano, Iowa

F/C | 6-foot-3 | senior | Previous: 19
2022-23 stats:
17.5 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 67.5% FG

We first think of Czinano's ultra-reliable offense in the paint, and it's been excellent: She made 19 of 28 shots in the early rounds for a combined 42 points. But against the size of Georgia inside during the Hawkeyes' second-round win, Czinano also had to come up big defensively. She had nine rebounds and two steals, with both of those coming in the final three minutes. -- Voepel

19. Gabbie Marshall, Iowa

G | 5-foot-9 | senior | Previous: NR
2022-23 stats:
6.0 PPG, 1.6 RPG, 38.2% 3FG

Marshall's season-long averages don't stand out, but her performance in March does. In Iowa's five games this month, in the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments, Marshall is averaging 11.8 points and has made 20 of 39 shots from behind the arc (51.3%). Marshall, also Iowa's best perimeter defender, picked the best time to get hot offensively. -- Voepel

23. Jaylyn Sherrod, Colorado Buffaloes

G | 5-foot-7 | senior | Previous: NR
2022-23 stats:
11.3 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 4.9 APG, 2.4 SPG

No player in the tournament, perhaps no player in college basketball, is as fast with the ball in her hand than Sherrod. Her explosiveness from baseline to baseline creates a one-player fast break. Even a defense as good as Duke had trouble containing that speed. Sherrod was vital in Colorado's quick start against the Blue Devils, and then her composure was key in the overtime as the Buffs held on in Durham for their first Sweet 16 in 21 years. -- Creme

24. Angel Baker, Ole Miss Rebels

G | 5-foot-8 | senior | Previous: NR
2022-23 stats:
14.9 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 2.5 APG

Very few brackets had No. 8 seed Ole Miss upsetting three-time NCAA champion and No. 1 seed Stanford 54-49 in the second round, but Baker helped make it happen. She has had a big March Madness moment before, though. Baker spent her first three seasons at Wright State, and had 26 points and 12 rebounds in the Raiders' 2021 NCAA first-round upset of then-No. 4 seed Arkansas. Her 13 points Sunday led the offense in the Rebels' defensive stranglehold on Stanford. She will be a big key for Ole Miss to now try to beat another 2022 Final Four team, Louisville. -- Voepel

Nice ESPN preview of Iowa vs Colorado:

Iowa Hawkeyes

NCAA seed: No. 2 (Seattle 4 Region)
NCAA tournament: Defeated SE Louisiana 95-43; defeated Georgia 74-66

After Iowa's hard-fought win over Georgia, some headlines said Caitlin Clark's 22 points led the way. But her 14 assists were the biggest reason the Hawkeyes are in their third Sweet 16 in the last four NCAA tournaments. Iowa scored five baskets in a row late in the third quarter and early in the fourth, and none of them were by Clark, but she set each up with a varied display of passing excellence. Her deep shooting gets on SportsCenter. Clark's assists win games. From the 0:17 mark of the second quarter until there was 6:50 left in the game, Clark, the national leader in assists per game, had a hand in 27 consecutive Iowa points. The run only included three Clark baskets.

With 1-seed Stanford out, the rest of the Seattle 4 Regional is full of defensive-minded teams which will all have one objective when they meet Iowa: Slow down Clark. Georgia got close -- Clark was only 6-of-17 from the field -- but found a way, like she has most of the season.

Up next: vs. Colorado on Friday (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN)

Colorado Buffaloes
NCAA seed: No. 6 (Seattle 4)
NCAA tournament: Defeated Middle Tennessee 82-60; defeated Duke 61-53 OT

No player is as crafty with the ball than Iowa's Caitlin Clark. No one is as fast with it as Colorado's Jaylyn Sherrod. Next weekend they will appear on the same court. Sherrod's speed and Quay Miller's size were just a little too much for Duke to overcome, and the Buffs became the third road team to win Monday. Colorado was also just as close to becoming a fourth team to blow a double-digit lead. After a quick start, the Buffaloes felt the squeeze of the Duke defense and fell behind in the fourth. But a Sherrod layup sent the game to overtime, where Colorado proceeded to play its own stifling defense, holding the Blue Devils without a field goal for the entire extra five minutes.

Up next: vs. Iowa on Friday (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN)

If Iowa makes the Final 4 they likely play South Carolina.

On the other side of the bracket, unfortunately, it looks like UConn will be in the National title game.

I haven't waded through the postings, and it may have been posted previously, but the Iowa vs Georgia game had the largest TV audience ever for 1st/2nd round game. The reason is no secret: excitement/action sells.

A player like Caitlin draws big time. What kind of contract can she demand when she goes pro? I'd say she she'll break the bank and demand Monika for a teamate.

Georgia apparently thought all eyes were on them!
