Seriously, what is Trump’s goal?

Walks like a duck, talks like a duck, I'm going to lead it 4 feet and pull the trigger.

It's very obvious the dems would rather fold to acknowledging they would rather have cheap shit, made in China, by indentured servants, than cheer on bringing back jobs to the united states.
Everyone would rather have cheap shit. You think rural Republicans don't go into town and buy things at the ol' Wal-Mart too?

Here's a hint - read more than you type. Listen more than you talk. It is how you learn things.

Not everyone. That's an addiction we are going to have to get off of.

Accept you are ok with slave labor for your temu shit, or not.

Hmmmmmm..... I wonder where the Trump gear you MAGA folks wear comes from?

Hilarious that this is now your new spin. Concern over the poor people in other countries. You're as disingenuous as you are ignorant.

Would you stop with this Chinese worker nonsense? Nobody on the Trump team gives a shit about Chinese labor conditions.

Good grief, you have Musk and Trump and MAGA celebrating thousands and thousands of US workers losing their jobs, a GOP senator and others telling people they probably deserved it and calling them clowns, and you expect us to believe that they care and foremost about the Chinese worker.

You sound like a ****ing idiot.

Don't confuse an American worker with a administrative buerocrat, they actually have to do something to make a pay check.

He doesn't give a shit about the Chinese, frankly, this push is going to really hurt them, he wants those jobs done by Americans.

Did temu or the cheap shit come 1st? When social media made home decoration a goal, appearance and not functionality, suddenly became part of the addiction. Blame the dealer, or help the addict? You're advocating setting up shop locally to keep up appearances, and not speaking truth to the root of the issues.

Sure - let's get Americans to do all the textile work sewing apparel and shoes.

You're a moron.

The more I think about this I wonder if the answer is simple wanted to force the issue earlier and blame it on fixing Biden’s mess, and then hopefully have a smoother runway to the midterms so he doesn’t get impeached a third time.

The root of the issue is we have a world that operates off hypocrisy.

The people that fight the hardest for human rights are the ones fighting hardest to have China keep making our shit using slave labor. They just don't want to have to see it.

China controls the internet and surveils their citizens so they will work those jobs. If that's what it takes to make the things they do, why do we want those jobs?

Keep reading, we have been through this. "Nike" won't make shit here, but they sure as shit might buy more us grown cotten.

"Caterpillar" and "apple" and "ford" will be moving shit here.

No one, but China, is fighting for slave labor to be used. You want those jobs here, then don't expect anything but a slave wage.

I didn't want to pick cotton either but I don't think the guy should have to worry about eating that day either.

No you keep repeating a wish list that the actions of this week by Trump putting his foot on the countries with jobs you don't want here will result in everything you want from Santa.

India..... Pakistan.... sure...

You know one thing I've always loved about Mexico is it's minimum wage system.... 😫

Brasil...great worker rights....

What job does the 30 year old living in a town of 300 in rural whatever state get as a result of all this. Too small of available workforce in their area to attract any manufacturing, but they just got taxed via tariff.
Well, In my community that's fairly similar to that, we have a welding shop, we have a seed company, we have an egg producer. Every small community has a hub, that hub has a Ford dealer, more ford's sold, more ford's maintained.

Are you promoting doing nothing and hoping it helps or chips manufacturing coming to the west central valley?

Do you think the housekeeping staff at a hotel you stay in have wonderful lives? They are out of sight and out of mind for a reason. Back of the house employees at restaurants apply too. I walked by a teenager in Fareway moving cans to the front of the shelf yesterday looking like he hated it. I respect he was there doing it however.

Republicans have voted for all of our trade deals over the years, granted some were signed by neoliberal Bill Clinton. Trade deals and normalized trade with China were created and pushed by corporations. Jobs went to China because capital is created with exploitation of labor because stock holder supremacy is more important than anything else in our current system until now.

So now, Trump, who relies heavily on Chinese manufacturing has decided that the world and China are ripping us off. He imposes tariffs globally which tanks the market, that confidence won't bounce back as fast as it falls. The world looks for new trade partnerships because the US appears unstable, weakening the US position in trade. Consumer spending drops as the tax from tariffs eats into spending power. The consumption based economy weakens further, spending power drops again.

It is almost like Trump is helping BRICS and hurting the US on purpose.

IF, and mean if, these tariffs were about bringing jobs back to the US they were timed as poorly as humanly possible. You would need many programs setup like the CHIPs Act passed under Biden which funded research and development of chip manufacturing in the US. Once manufacturing is reestablished, especially in national security areas like chips then you could increase protectionist tariffs on certain industries.

Instead we got blanket tariffs before a return of manufacturing and a regime that is trying to suffocate social programs. My first post in this thread pointed to desperation being one of the mechanics of these moves. It is important to consider the neofuedalists around the Trump orbit as they more than anyone else can exploit desperation for capital better than anyone else. Once again, we are looking at Project 2025 stuff.

What’s the plan? What am I missing.
You’re not missing anything.

There’s a plan but it’s incomprehensible and contradictory.

We put 10% tariffs on countries that don’t tariff us or we have free trade agreements with.

We used trade deficits in our tariff calculations so a country like Madagascar that is poor as shit got a 47% tariff slapped on it

I could go on but it’s a convoluted mess.

I'm saying your expectations aren't realistic. I have a business card of my local to the farm in my wallet instead of my phone. The kid who left Des Moines to come home to take over his Dad's business hired more people and they do small assemblies. Had he not I don't know the next closest spot I would call to fix something beyond my skill or tool level.

So you are ok with people living absolute poverty (in china) as long as our dregs keep minimum quality of life, as long as you don't have to see them...

The 16 year old at fairway is trying to buy his new car, the 28 year old that had been there 10 years, that now runs the meat counter, is trying to work his way up, the 40 year old running the place drives a Cadillac. The 28 year old thst is doing the same shit as the 16 year old, needs to think about the choices he has made and why he is in oace for his "first car".

In short, this is a last ditch attempt to rebuild the US middle class...

Don't think stores will not suffer while waiting for those factories to be built.

Most of these factories still won't be built. Nintendo will just play the long game and wait for Trump to back off on the Tariffs, which WILL happen. Then they'll start shipping.

The risk for them is how deep of a recession we are in and how many families hold off on buying a new switch...

I'm guessing they are in a good position with all the downloadable games and intellectual property they sell.

Bring manufacturing back to the U.S.? Whiskey says “Nike is coming home”

I get targeting certain industries or categories of products, but otherwise this is ridiculous. We don’t need to be making 90% of the widgets and trinkets and all the other cheap goods lining the shelves at Walmart and every other retailer.
Nor do I sense anyone wants to pay more for these goods.

Is it to raise revenue? Isn’t that just a massive wealth transfer from consumers to corporations? And then to the ultra rich to help pay for tax cuts?
Again, how do we not pay much more for goods if the tariffs stay in place?

What’s the plan? What am I missing.
A made in the U.S.A. iPhone would alleged cost $3,500 because of the labor costs

Have you been to China and seen the poverty or pollution? I've walked the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. Been snarled at by a German Shepherd in a cage who was a delicacy. Been chaperoned by a communist party member. I've also been in New York meetings in a custom suit sitting next to the Governors wife in the same week I am covered in grease rebuilding something in clothes from Walmart that get washed in a work clothes only set of machines. I have a niece and nephew under 5 I have already been told are dependent on my multiple professions so they have the option to never leave a county of 10k with one stoplight.

You bluntly don't have a clue what it takes to bring a new industry to the US. Do you have someone in your phone who ever built a factory down to the color of the carpet in a foreign country? I do.

My opinion is Trumps goals are political and economic destruction, with the goal of consolidating power for himself and allowing his benefactors to buy up equities and real estate on the cheap. By destroying alliances he also creates opportunities for his fellow autocrats to bully their neighbors.

I could be wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time for me.
Could be or it could be Putin told him to do this.

Did the communist party member walk you around the ghettos? Im sure they reqlly gave you that behind the scenes look while touring the great wall. Cuz I've been walked through the favelas of Brazil that pay for the houses on the hill.

You having someone who has started a company in China doesn't excuse the fact you are willing to live a higher quality of life here knowing they exist here, while white knighting for human rights here. Pick a lane.

It's my own personal opinion.

Thanks! Is it a recent creation or were you anticipating this throughout the campaign season? Trump's out there promising lower prices, stock market growth, jobs, the usual blather, but all that time you were thinking that secretly he was going for the deliberate recession early on, so he could do all the good stuff after?
