Session III Thread

As for basketball fans .... starting now ....
Also - i hope Mike G does not handle the ball at the end of the half or the game - really painful watching him dribble around like a rooster with the clock running down to 2 seconds every-time and then the dribble off the knee/bad pass/drive to the hoop and get stuffed.
Looks like I was wrong .... Mike G is a BBALL genius - iowa won

I don't know about the scout board but I can tell you that after the 2011 tournament these dudes absolutely came out of the wood work! Now don't get me wrong there are several PSU posters that I love reading and conversing with. But on the whole, their message board faction has been an inflammatory bunch.

Perhaps if you had stepped out from behind the keyboard and were actually "tailgating" with the "real" college wrestling fans this week in NYC you would feel differently? See how that works, Mr. dedicated fan?

Evidently reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. You see when I said, "message board faction", this means those who participate in posting on message boards. I have heard many good things about PSU fans. However the whole fanbase was not the topic. See how that works, Mr. Quotation Marks?

Edit: Also, for being a "real" college wrestling fan, you're certainly helping me make my case about the random PSU message board posters.

Intelligence? You mean like labeling an entire fanbase based on their perceived "activity" on Internet forums, Mr Extremely Dedicated Remote Iowa Fan (Who Also Happens To Be Extremely Intelligent)"?

Dear Dipshit: Most of the "'real' college wrestling fans" work "real" jobs that don't allow them to spend a weekend in NYC. So while I enjoy good discussions and some occasional friendly bantering, please don't be an absolute dipshit...it makes you sound like you're a high school wrestler talking to his buddies in study hall, instead of the 17-year old girls' volleyball cheerleader that you actually are. Just sayin...

Why don't you go tailgate and not post here, LB-douche

Way, WAY ahead of you, dumb, dumb. Here today and tomorrow (after missing Thursday with jury duty). I'll post (only) when idiots like you take a swipe at my program. I'll check back I tomorrow.

Not to interrupt the lively discussion going on, but who does Meyer wrestle tonight and how many more matches does he need to win to guarantee AA status!

"when you're from Iowa, we don't care whether you're 3-8 or 4-3; we care if you're an AA, semi-finalist, finalist, champion...that's it."

Comments like this make me embarrassed to say I'm an Iowa fan! Of the 200+ (?) colleges that have wrestling programs, seems that the Iowa fan base has a reputation for this attitude. It's sickening to me to cheapen the efforts and achievements of these athletes. This is one reason why I've waited years to start posting on this board, because of attitudes like this. No! - winning championships isn't what it's all about - ask any college coach and he'll tell you it's about developing the guys into fine young men, well-rounded academically, athletically, socially, spiritually, etc. Yes, there is great desire to achieve the highest level possible, both as an individual and a team, but when you fall short then you learn from it and move on. Too many fans treat sports like they're the end-all, and are more important than social, political, spiritual, or everyday aspects of life.

Yes, I'm bi-polar (hahaha) - my posts are usually insightful and sometimes comical, but sometimes I vent - sorry, I'm now climbing off my soap box!

Brother: I am from Iowa and I am "an Iowa fan." Being an Iowa wrestling fan is like being a Texas, USC, Ohio State, Florida State, Michigan, etc., football fan. If your team in one of the prize bulls, if you will, then you're not ok with settling for mediocracy...it's just not in the genes. I'm not trying to sounds like a pompous ass or a dick, but reality is what it its. And I will tell you, it's the same with Okie, OSU, MN, PSU, etc., wrestling fans. So so just don't cut it...

I concur that he wasn't 100%. I just want Sammy to show his true abilities before he graduates. That kid is a frcking stud!

When Sam Brooks was kicking ass, he was wrestling free, going to upper body stuff etc. Then he got beat by Boyd @OSU and it was like he climbed in a whole and fans wanted him to simmer down. Notice today when Sam looked his best? Its when he was pushing the pace with Dudley and going upper body. Look, nobody wants to get decked and look stupid on national TV and it opens all other kinds of stuff. I think the coaches need to let Sammy be Sammy.

Iowa is definitely not so-so --- for over 40 years we've been one of the top teams, and always will be. We haven't slipped into mediocracy, and I can't imagine that ever happening. Are the days of dominance over? Yes, but that's ok - PSU is putting together a good streak, but others are at their heels. Just relax, enjoy that the Hawks are competing for a title every year, and trust that they'll win, just not like in the past. As I've gotten older I've realized that sports are way down on the list of important things in life...WAY down. I enjoy some sports, but don't get caught up in them - way too many things to do and accomplish in life!
