Cmon man, that is bullcrap. That happens throughout the year, every time Iowa under performs or loses a thread is started about how TT sucks, this wrestler or that has no offense, M* blah blah blah, we can't recruit, and so on and so on. Although I am a "basketball guy" i follow the wrestling board throughout the year and this is not just "this time of year". I for one think the new strength and conditioning will help even more so next year, it appears our recruiting is improving this year and next, and I also feel as though we have a very solid team next year to compete for the title. I am not claiming to be an expert but as I just posted I think we improve at all weights besides 194 because of somebody new improving results (141 and 157) or because the rest return.

I stand by my comments. If he doesn't AA this year and next, there will be those of us who look back on Brooks as an amazing kid who just couldn't put it together in the NCAAs. And when you're from Iowa, we don't care whether you're 3-8 or 4-3; we care if you're an AA, semi-finalist, finalist, champion...that's it. If you're a stud like Brooks and don't make the top 4 or 5 this year and next, he will have significantly under-performed just like Moore. Both these horses were supposed to get us major points in the NCAAs...and it just hasn't happened (yet).
Nolf is frickin' good, plain and simple. Their guys are fun to watch, but it's hard to fully enjoy them with all their Johnny-come-lately fans that honor us with their presence.
Exactly the point. It would be like me going to the basketball board two days a year in March to post that Fran sucks and he needs to coach his players to score more points. I wouldn't even consider doing something that idiotic.

We really needed horses at 41, 57, 65, 74, and 97...and hopefully the superheroes we have in the room and coming in will fill those voids...or perhaps we just need to fill four of those because Meyer will turn the corner and make next year something special?
Feel the same, I've been a long time follower of ALL Hawkeye sports. Been on HR for quite some time too, I've even stepped in once or twice over the years and did some PBP of matches here. I also enjoy watching the FB team, mens & women's BB, VB, SB, etc. Yes every year some casual fans drop by, just like every year in FB when the bowl season comes, or in BB when the tourney starts. Doesn't make me any less of a wrestling fan to admit I like other Hawkeye sport as well...
Barring a meltdown, it's hard not to see PSU take home the Championship.... How many places after that do teams still get trophies? Is it up to 4th place or 3rd? I hope Iowa can stay in there and still take home some hardware...

I'll be cheering on the remaining wrestlers and I don't place the blame on their shoulders. It's not their fault that Brands left massive holes at 141 and 165. Brands has to improve his recruiting. You can't settle on one Marinelli per year while PSU gets a Nolf, Nickal and Retherford. Most Iowa fans excused the previous seasons assuming PSU caught lightning with Ruth and Taylor and now here we go again.

I don't know about the scout board but I can tell you that after the 2011 tournament these dudes absolutely came out of the wood work! Now don't get me wrong there are several PSU posters that I love reading and conversing with. But on the whole, their message board faction has been an inflammatory bunch.

Bad news, we don't have anyone in the room besides another 49 lbr that is going to be a difference maker. Either him or our current 49 are going to have to bump a weight class above their ideal weights. Recruiting got psu where they are, it's the only way to catch them in the yrs to come.
This is interesting because I read a twitter exchange between him and Metcalf where Burroughs said that people love to hate the Hawks, and it wasn't right. He said he loved Iowa except when they wrestle Nebby.
Have to replace 165 as well, but big upgrade coming with that (assuming he doesn't redshirt)
If Meyer wins his next match he has Epperly tonight... if I am looking at things right. Going to need to show up to AA. Sammy needs to beat the winner of Abounader and Zillmer to AA. Better get on it. . or did Abounader lose I didnt see that one

Sounds like sour grapes to me. Of course teams that start winning are going to attract more fans. That is how it works. I think PSU has a fantastic program and are obviously the new Iowa when it comes to wrestling. Iowa needs to up their game is all.
Listening to his interview the thought crossed my mind that he'd be a great choice to take the reigns someday. Going to end up as one of the greatest international wrestlers of all time and he's a pretty sharp dude.

Comments like this make me embarrassed to say I'm an Iowa fan! Of the 200+ (?) colleges that have wrestling programs, seems that the Iowa fan base has a reputation for this attitude. It's sickening to me to cheapen the efforts and achievements of these athletes. This is one reason why I've waited years to start posting on this board, because of attitudes like this. No! - winning championships isn't what it's all about - ask any college coach and he'll tell you it's about developing the guys into fine young men, well-rounded academically, athletically, socially, spiritually, etc. Yes, there is great desire to achieve the highest level possible, both as an individual and a team, but when you fall short then you learn from it and move on. Too many fans treat sports like they're the end-all, and are more important than social, political, spiritual, or everyday aspects of life.
Yes, I'm bi-polar (hahaha) - my posts are usually insightful and sometimes comical, but sometimes I vent - sorry, I'm now climbing off my soap box!
