Session IV Thread

I wonder who has more takedowns this season, Nico or Gilman? Also, you wanna talk about sport-killing, let's watch some Brandon Sorenson tape.
Well I don't have the time to check it out but I would say this year Gillman has more TDs than Nico and he had all majors and a fall so far in this tournery seems like he has out wrestled Nico in this tourney so far also just let it go so tired of hearing that all your guys are all so offensive. Yes Zain, Nolf, and Nhickal are and I enjoy watching them wrestle but they even have some bad matches it all depends on the opponent.

I don't get the hate for Burak. Came to Iowa as a mid level recruit and consistently improved year after year. Went from losing to D3 wrestlers his first year to become a 3 time all american. Hopefully he can finish 3rd and close out a great career.

If our more heralded recruits would show the growth that Burak did over his career, we'd be much better off as a team.
Here is my beef...that in the matches I have watch between him and Morgan, he has done nothing to change. I personally have certain expectations that I'd like to see out of our team. The top of the list is fire and intensity for the length of the match. Even if their not as talented. Nathan has worked hard to get to that point and to approach that semi final match with what seemed like a 'going through the motions atritude" seemed disappointing.

screw u lion funny even Mr Askern even calls mega the mr megastaller he goona get his ass kicked tomorrow wanna put 100 on it throudh pay pal why don't ass holes like you just stay on your own board ok .
I would do it but then feel bad taking you rent money ;)

Irrelevant is Penn State in football now not Iowa in wrestling. Too bad JoePa was a scumbag. He'd fit in well with wrestling there. ;-)

So is conway we need to just get Kemdog and Sorensen 49 & 57 maybe meyer should move up to 184 and brooks to 197 stoll gets healthy we can make a run at them but again can't afford injuries they don't tech or major most of our guys head to head and I like our chances in a dual with them.

PSU will look like this next year: 125 Suriano, 133 Gulibon, 141 Cortez, 149 Retherford, 157 Nolf, 165 Joseph, 174 Nickal, 184 Rasheed, 197 Cassar, Hwt Nevills.

As I mentioned earlier, your best shot is NOT to redshirt Marinelli, and wrestle him at 165.
Next year Gilman's bracket clears out and Nato goes up to 133. Top 3 at 133 will be Clark, Nato, and Gulibon, who will be much better wrestling at his natural weight, although Clark and Nato will both challenge for the top of the podium of course.

I'll reply just before I put you in the growing list of PSU fans on my ignore list. I'd bet Gilman has more takedowns on the year than Nico. He's let this tournament in match points so far; we know that for sure.

Now, feel free to continue thumping your chest while I ignore you from now on.

PSU,,, I hope you are humbled soon. You talk so much crap but Iowa was not the team red shirting some of our best wrestlers last year to avoid other wrestlers or to set up this year better. Makes me think your mascot should be more of a pussy cat. I also love your keyboard muscles so many of you have.

And I was happy to see him eat his own s#t because of it.
Classy move, shoving Clark in the head afterward, too. Yes, Clark gave him a little shove before that, because Richards wouldn't get off him so he could get up.

I think we have confirmation that Cory Clark, who owns a winning record over him, including 2-1 this year, is in his league.

Stall, stall, stall....the McIntosh way against Burak.

Two things are guaranteed when McIntosh and Burak wrestle:

(1) Every shot in the match before about the last 15 seconds will be taken by McIntosh (and countered by Burak hanging on for dear life and hoping for a stalemate); and

(2) at least one dipshit Hawkeye fan will claim that McIntosh is the one who was stalling.

No crap talking here, just wrestling talk. Iowa is a major factor next year and three finalists is damn good. Especially good was Sorenson taking out Collica who bothers the hell out of me with his stalling and slowing down the match.

GTFO of here with that nonsense

the only stalling I have seen in this tournament is coming from Stillwater, and named "Collica" and "Marsden".

Gulibon he should ttransfer wait maybe he had to give up his schoralship for a recurit and even at 133 Clark, Richards and Nato will make him look like a fish. But hey Cal can coach funny a 4 time Pa state champ going into his 5th year and no AA great job coach or maybe the kid was just overated to begin with.

Funny -- I ask the same question every time I read a juvenile post from another PSU chest thumper and put him/her on the ignore list -- something that has happened almost daily throughout the season.

PSU people, your team is great and doing good things for wrestling. Don't get too cocky. A lot happens over the years. You have 19 or so more titles to go before you take over the 2nd place spot in the history of the sport. (what some of you newer fans who compare current results to Iowa, Cael is 5 for 10 in his career which is out of this world great. At the same point, Gable was 9 for 10.) If you are here to just troll Iowa, act like you have been there before or go celebrate with your team.
wrestlers and fans with a heart for the sport have always been welcome and treated well here.

Funny thing is that PSU folks are talking so much junk about Sorensen and he is the second best 49 pounder in the country. So is Zain just that damn good or is the weight just that damn weak...PSU Love or Iowa hate. Tough Choice.

Have an edge? Yes. Make him "look like a fish"? No.

Gulibons' natural weight is 133, and he has lost nearly every match this year because of not being long enough or big enough. Clark, Richards, and Nato, but not 3 or 4 more than that. Gulibon will be ranked 5th or 6th in the country. Garrett is gone, Brewer is gone, Gulibon can beat Hall, or Rauser, or nearly anyone else. He finished 5th in the nation last year at 133.

When I've had conversations with Iowa fans at matches they've all appeared to have both knowledge and class. After reading through the contents and snide comments on this thread it's difficult to believe that most of the contributors here are boosters of the same institution.
I can't tell you how many times I've had precisely the same thought about the PSU "fans" who have swarmed this board for about the last 6 years to thump their chests and demean the Iowa program. Don't think for a second that what you're seeing is remotely unique to Iowa fans. Frankly, while I don't condone any juvenile behavior from Iowa fans, their reactions are presumably in large part a response to the garbage that so many PSU fans bring to this board.

Funny, though -- hardly a peep from PSU fans on this board last year. I'll let you do the math and figure out why that was.

Gable, in his prime as a coach, was the John Wooden of wrestling. Cael is in the tradition. Both are in the top ten all time world wide as wrestlers in the history of the sport, and both are great coaches, with Cael right now in his prime, and of course Gable's legend cemented. Being an Iowa fan is to me, like being a Steeler fan: You cannot touch the history or the rings, haha.

NEW YORK CITY - TheUniversity of Iowa advanced three wrestlers to the finals of the 2016 NCAA Championships on Friday night at Madison Square Garden.

Thomas Gilman (125), Cory Clark (133), and Brandon Sorensen (149) won their respective semifinal matches and will compete for national championships Saturday at 7 p.m. (CT) inside the “World’s Most Famous Arena.”

It is the first time since 2012 that Iowa has had three wrestlers in the finals (Matt McDonough, Montell Marion, Derek St. John). The Hawkeyes have had at least one NCAA finalist in 27 consecutive seasons.

Clark is making his second straight appearance in the finals. He was runner-up last season, but worked his way back onto the main stage with a 4-3 decision over third-seeded Zane Richards. Richards struck first with a first-period takedown, but Clark struck last, scoring the final two points with a takedown nine seconds left in the period.

“I knew that I was wearing on him,” Clark said. “I was able to really get him to start thinking defense, and once a guy starts thinking defense, that's when you get to the leg and you finish.”

Gilman pinned the defending national champion in sudden victory to reach the NCAA finals for the first time in his career. He was tied, 1-1, with top-seeded Nathan Tomasello after seven minutes of regulation, and ended the Ohio State sophomore’s 43-match win streak halfway through the first overtime period.

“I hooked his head with my foot and made an adjustment there,” Gilman said. “That's something -- if you look at my career, that something I've really done well is making adjustments, not only day-to-day or year-to-year, but within the match itself. And that's what good wrestlers do. They make adjustments within the match.”

Sorensen’s second period takedown was the difference in his 4-2 decision against Oklahoma State’s sixth-seeded Anthony Collica.

“The match ended up coming down to a takedown,” Sorensen said. “Again, I don't like it to be that way. I don't like to be tight. But that's what happened, and you've got to come out on top, and that's what I did. I'm moving on to the finals.”

The Hawkeyes are in third place entering Saturday’s All-America round. Alex Meyer (174), Sammy Brooks (184), and Nathan Burak (197) are all still competing on the back side of the bracket. Meyer won four consecutive consolation matches to advance to the All-America round for the first time in his career. Brooks defeated fourth-seeded Dom Abounader in the Round of 12 to advance to his first All-America round. Both wrestlers lost in the consolation quarterfinals and will wrestle for seventh place in their respective brackets.

Burak fell to top-seeded Morgan McIntosh in the 197-pound semifinals. He will compete in the consolation semis Saturday morning.

“We won five matches in a row and then we lost three, so we’ve got to pick ourselves up as a team and go forward,” said UI head coach Tom Brands. “The bottom line is we have two seventh place matches, a guy in the top six that has a chance at getting third, and he's a senior, and we have three in the finals.”

Penn State leads the team race with 114 points. Oklahoma State (79.5), Iowa (77.5), Virginia Tech (69.5), and Ohio State (68) round out the top five.

The All-America round begins Saturday at 10 a.m. (CT). The finals begin at 7 p.m. (CT). ESPN will televise the finals. ESPN3 will stream the All-America round.

Didn't say that. I'm saying top 8, somewhere on the podium. I could be wrong, hell I'm wrong a LOT HAHA. I think Marinelli is top 8 next year too if the shirt comes off.

That and we are getting swarmed after this round, when PSU has pretty much wrapped it up.

Someone taught him something. He was not a highly rated recruit and he's a 3 time AA, moving up the podium every year.

And he did it all by being a scoring machine.

I didn't say he wasn't a good wrestler, Spooner. I pointed out that he lacked offense ,four years later, he still lacks offense. It's a shame because he is otherwise a very smart and tough wrestler.

I can see what you are saying, but I'm starting to see the frustration as the season is ending and how we've had great people that support other teams come on here and have great talks about wrestling as a whole. But, we've also had a strong showing of "douches" that just put their team to shame, coming to an opposing teams forum and run their mouth. Penn State is the standard now, no question. (Still hate them, lol) Come back any time OldTiredLion

How many titles does Iowa have since Cael got to Penn State? How many does Iowa have? Oh.

Nato will get overwhelmed at 133. Too short. No length. Gilman was much stronger and it was obvious. That would happen in every match against the top guys at 133 (Gulibon included). Much like Gulibon struggled going up this year, Nato would struggle. I'd guess he does all he can go stay at 125.
