Shane Griffith

Griffith is frickin’ good. Smart, too. You take him and sort sh*t out later.

165 has been stacked, and I think I recall Griffith implying it was a cut he didn’t want to continue if he wrestled next season. He lost 2 matches at Nationals this season — 2-1 vs. Carr and 2-1 TB vs. Amine. Beat 25-seed Wilson, 4-seed Ramirez (who beat Kennedy), 7-seed Caliendo, and 3-seed Hamiti (who owned Kennedy during the season).

Griffith 5th @ 165 >> Brands 5th @ 174.

And don’t forget that Kennedy was a recruit many here expected to jump levels and be a title contender within a year or two. You don’t pass on Griffith out of concern for Kennedy’s feelings. Best man goes.

Regardless of whether he goes 165 or 174, you want him.

Lol “eggshells.” That’s silly. Everyone was balls deep on Nagao. No one once said we should stick with Teske.

And we’re not PSU. Newsflash for you there.
Do you have to try being a prick or does it come natural?

And that's why I'm confused. You didn't bat an eye at Teske being kicked to the curb but you're all butt hurt over the thought of PK losing a year to a clearly better wrestler?

Last I checked Teske has still finished higher in March than Kennedy...

Spooner has never learned how to disagree with someone without trying to insult them. It gets old.

Nagao is more valuable to Iowa than Griffith. That shouldn’t need to be explained. But the point was no one has been on “eggshells” as you mentioned. People have been flat out begging for upgrades at several weights. The board was also universally behind Truax.

And no one, I mean no one, is butt hurt. The opinion is logic based not emotion based.

If you think that was an insult you’ve got yourself some tissue paper thin skin.

Look I get that he's a big name but Griffith doesn't really fit into our lineup without some issues.

First, I don't think he wants to go 165 again so that probably puts to rest the PK debate. However, if PK were to leave because Griffith came here to be our 165 that creates a multi-year problem at 165 for what, 6-10 extra team points? That doesn't make sense to me.

And if Griffith does want to go 174 as speculated does Brands bump up? We've seen him as an undersized 184 before and I don't see Brands as an AA at 184. So again, what's the gain?

Nagao was a no-brainer. Teske is a Covid year senior who has yet to AA. Cullen has been consistently beat like a drum when in the lineup over the past two seasons. Nagao was an AA as a RSFrosh.

Griffith is not a no-brainer in my opinion.

Doesn’t sound like “butt hurt” to me. Not even on the 3rd time it’s been laid out for him.

Backing up the man’s statement with exactly what he accused you of. Nice!

I think we are probably having a pointless convo anyway. There seems to be a lot of speculation that he’s done with 165. But 174 at Iowa makes even less sense. Perhaps he’s told Iowa he’s ready to rock 184.

Question though…has he even visited Iowa?
I have no idea, but I hope he does and I hope he falls in love with the campus.

Teske has failed to AA in 3 chances and the alternative Nagao was a need weight proven AA with 3 years left vs PK having 1 shot to AA in a rediculous weight class and the potential alternative a proven AA with 1 year left. Not really apples to apples.

I didn't start that comparison, but once it was made, I did it.
And that's an impressive run-on sentence
*tips hat*

Well he was wrestling last weekend and hasn’t joined the HWC so I would assume he’s wrestling now to help him improve for next year. I could be wrong but that’s my thought and I wish we had more Hawkeye wrestlers doing this.
I agree with you until somebody tears an ACL at a freestyle tourny lol

Pyles said on FRL that he was told Kennedy to 157 if Griffith signs on. Honestly, if PK can make that weight comfortably, that's where he should go for his own betterment

Could be wrong, but I thought that at one time Illinois residents could get in state tuition at iowa. Also, I had heard at okie state if a non-resident hs student had a certain gpa they could get in state tuition to go there, which helped osu distribute their 9.9 allotment to more recruits.
For a long time Out of State tuition at Iowa was less than in state at Illinois. No idea if that's the case now.

It's true at some of the D3 colleges in Iowa, but not at the state universities. For example, children of employees at Coe College get free tuition to Coe, and a small network of other D3 schools.
I get it but this discussion was about Iowa. That has never been the case at Iowa.

Since Spencer Lee lost in the semi's on Friday night, I can't think of too many things going Iowa's way.

The highlight of our program right now is Nelson Brands fighting hard to finish fifth.

Anyone who questions the Brands's efforts are nuts. But the overall results and the chance to win it all again seem almost impossible at this point in time. Hope I'm wrong.

Questioning their efforts is probably unfair. Questioning their methods and results is certainly fair.

this part I guarantee to be false. But, employees kids do get free tuition here. But just tuition-fees are more than the tuition.

Are we counting freestyle? Because Desanto's results have been pretty great!

Meh, what’s the eligibility of the four M transfers, 1, 2, 1 and 1?

Psu getting better, Michigan getting better, Iowa loses its best ever and not reloading. Dam
If we don’t have AJ in our line up this year, which isn’t looking good, we may 4th in big ten this year. Michigan and PSU loaded up both ways, young recruits and portal, and ohio is ready unleash their monster class from 2 years ago, and got davino and another good recruit this year. We need the other two Ferrari’s just to stay competitive with Ohio State and Michigan. The guy that flipped to us from Wisconsin looks slightly higher rated that Riggins, so potential, but no sure thing to even crack line up.
