Should Iowa (Kf and Staff) go after #1 2015 TE Chris Clark (UCLA transfer)

I know the news is early and this guy could be a big prima donna but Chris Clark is physically ready for the college game and probably a first rounder in three years. Clark is banned from accepting a scholarship from Michigan, Michigan State and tOSU. Those schools landed top TEs in 2015 so why not find a ggod program that really works the TE. I could see Pitt as a next stop but not some of the other ACC teams are not really TE oriented. Iowa did initially offer but not sure Clark showed any real interest. With Beathard and Wiegers arms, a great quality TE would be a huge asset over the next three years.

Mora may be winning at UCLA but he always seemed like a major jerk. Does Iowa solicit Clark's interest? I'd vote yes.

I thought it was interesting to see him gone after a single game at UCLA. The article I saw said he was interested in NC St, Va, and Pitt. If Iowa has previously offered and isn't on his short list now given the TE history out of Iowa City, he probably is a waste of attention.

He decommitted from Michigan because Hoke got fired. I would want to know why he is leaving UCLA before I would start asking if he is willing to come here.

Didn't know colleges could exclude certain teams from you transferring to. That's just a dumb rule. I can see if it's your conference or a team on your schedule but why would UCLA care if he goes to Michigan St, Michigan or Ohio State. It seems to me Mora is going out of his way to make sure he don't go where maybe he wants to go. Mora is an egotistical jackass so maybe that is what this is about.

Kirk will not even spend 3 seconds on this. He got his TE and has 2 decent to good ones returning. Not his style.

But then again, new Kirk may very well go off the reservation

Ferentz will talk to Mora first. Mora will tell him that he is a pain in the butt. Ferentz will say ok we don't want him then.

I don't know that there is a "rule" about this for sure, but my understanding is that the scholarship is a two-way binding contract. If a player wants to be released from his scholarship to go elsewhere, the school is at liberty to say no and make him join his new team as a non-scholarship athlete. They are also at liberty to put whatever sort of restrictions they want on a release, if granted. Typically, you'll see schools restrict a player from switching to a team within their conference (to avoid having to play against him later, along with keeping a rival from benefiting at your expense) and maybe some other specific places. It's odd to me that UCLA would choose just those three teams, but he could still walk on for a year at any of those three (a la Jarrod Uthoff).

Yeah, I highly doubt he'd go after the kid. We very rarely go after transfers. Kirk may be "new Kirk" .... but he's still all about player-development. He's now just trying to make sure that he's developing them play more aggressively (by coaching them more aggressively).
