played light years better than Indy

but this team just won’t beat good teams giving up easy layups and open threes.

Oh what could have been this year

Expectations were too high. You can't expect an unathletic team like Iowa to outshoot every opponent.

The couple minutes I saw Bohannon and CMac had egregious turnovers. Not good when your veterans choke at the end of games.

The zone doesn't work in modern 3-ball age. These Illini were shooting Corner 3's with no one around by dribble actions one side, pass over top the other side, nobody from Iowa within 15 feet. Frazier and Ayo were on, not going to win.

Nunge improved the post defense dramatically...but he is no Garza on offense. Gave up 21 pts to Ayo just in 1st half and nobody contested JBo is hawkeye great, but if opponents have athletic guards and don't help off him, he can't get his shot off and he's abused on defensive end.

I think they were a touch high. I was thinking there would need to be a hot hand plus Garza bit now I think we need 2 people to get hot a game. Still a good team that can do well in the playoffs though.

Iowa is good, but they aren't top five good. They are still limited athletically and aren't fully committed to the defensive end.

Still, come March, they have the firepower to make a deep run if enough guys are hitting 3s.

Our defense on the perimeter was bad as usual but Illinois’ guards were much superior to ours in every phase.

Do you understand that if we went man, Ayo would get a layup every time? We have to live with the shots from the corner because that's all we can play. Bohannon doesn't give you good guard defense. He's too small, too slow. So this is what you get. It's really that simple. That being said, if I was the coach it would have been Joe T. starting to lock them down defensively. Joe T. would be a better play against Illinois, Indy, Rutgers, and Minnesota. Fran has to see this.

Love Joe T's D as well on that last inbounds attempt by IL!

If Fran can’t win with this team... well... then this is as good as it gets
They will be better when Ulis and Perkins are on the floor with Nunge, Murray, and Touissant. More athletic and can defend. I’d like to see this line up out there to spell the starters.

If you can't make your fair share of 3's in today's game you're in trouble, and who is going to provide that from this bunch? I guess we'll find out eventually, but trading 2's for 3's doesn't end well often.

I'm not a fan of Joe T's game on the offensive end in any way, he's over the top erratic, and frankly I don't see that changing. He has spurts like everybody does, but consistently playing well is not who he is IMO.

This team needs to be extremely efficient on offense in order to win and especially advance in the tournament, because they are extremely deficient on defense. Nothing new there.

Agreed - Joe T is able to be much better on the ball defense which of course disrupts an offense/timing.
