The Iowa staff isn’t under any obligation to announce whether an incoming athlete, not yet on the Iowa roster, is going to compete at a holiday tournament.
Of course, fans are interested, but that interest wasn’t generated by our coaches, who have said virtually nothing publicly about PDIII being a Hawk. Speculation is fine, but it’s purely a matter of fans’ curiosity.
PDIII probably should have kept a lower profile about possibly competing at Midlands, but I’m sure he’s totally fired up about getting back on the mat, and I don’t necessarily blame him for sharing his enthusiasm.
It’s not our staff’s job to satisfy our every curiosity in a timely fashion. I respect the way they’ve focused on the guys currently in the roster and steered clear of public statements about Pat’s status. Once he’s officially a Hawkeye, I’m sure we’ll get plenty of our questions answered.
You are correct, the staff is not contractually obligated to be transparent to their fanbase, but you do have fans spending hundreds of dollars to support the Hawkeyes this weekend. The staff allowed every wrestling media outlet do a story on Pat Downey and then he is not competing. My take is that TnT currently have a perception of being unorganized with no plan. Recent examples include Downey getting pulled at the last minute of WNO, Downey getting pulled at the last minute of Midland's, a To Be Determine surprise at wrestle-offs that was Perez Perez, Gilman replacing Tom at Fight Night, the future of 174 being a backup at 165 all year, etc. Will they Free the Lee or will they also make that decision 10 minutes before the Oklahoma State dual? The Midland's wanted to create some pre-tournament buzz (like every other year) with pre-seeds and Iowa could not even turn their roster in on time. I hope the Hawkeye's wrestle well this weekend, but they need more than a 3-inch binder to improve their PR image.

Can you expand on the NCAA rules comment. The coaching staff doesn't owe you & I shit. They are however obliged to follow NCAA rules. You just sound pretty butthurt.

Also, if PD isn't enrolled at Iowa, can he just enter the tournament on his own unattached or does he have to represent a college or wrestling club?
It is true a coach can not discuss a recruit until he/she has signed a loi, or is on team (walk-on). However, as a member of the Hawk wrestling club there should be some sort of leeway. He can't wrestle with the College team & I am pretty sure Tom can't even talk about him in the media, until he is on the team.

I have a relevant picture to put here, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it here. It is a from my pictures, so should I be able to copy and paste? I have tried to do that but nothing seems to happen. Techno wise I am a little bit stupid, plain and simple. Thank you in advance for not making fun of me.![]()

Why would they not be able to talk about him? They talk about recruits before they step foot on campus. They talk about wrestlers on other teams. What rule is there?

Another troll with few posts. We get it. Go away.I was just offering my perspective. Why is Iowa not even getting any of the top Iowa recruits? Why is Iowa not even listed on most top recruits top 5 anymore. Adding Downey is only going to make this problem worst. If Downey is part of the HWC and they (TnT & Perry) have no control what he puts on social media, then it should be an entertaining next few months. Also, please leave my butt out of the conversation - thanks in advance.
At the get together before Iawrestle’s event at Carver, Tom wouldn’t even let him come upstairs at The Vine. He stayed downstairs and ate his dinner. Course he could have just been playing I safe in case an ISU Fan was up there and Downey punched him.
It has to be a much finer line to walk when you have those kids on campus working out with the club. Would never happen with the ball & stick sports.
