So what's the latest timing on a potential new wrestling facility?

sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Small potatoes, my friend. We’re talking about a “big boy” project here.;)

Small potatoes, my friend. We’re talking about a “big boy” project here.;)

Ohio State new wrestling facility accounts for @$20 million of the $50 million combined project (Covelli Arena at @$30M), so I hardly think we are talking "small potatoes."

Wonder if Ashton would want to help out....

But seriously, this is awesome and I had no idea the project was even this far along in funding and I browse these boards fairly often. Should definitely try to get this out there more because I will be contributing now that I know and I'm sure many more didn't know just like me.

Let me know how / what i can communicate to the Twin Cities I Club.

Do we know if Iowa comes to Minnesota this year? Maybe there could be a pre-meet gathering where this is all discussed, where we can get Iowa alums like Chad Greenway to attend (he is a retired Viking but still lives in the area). I know they have him and former Viking/Hawkeyes on their email list. Maybe he could help market this thing, too, and help twist some arms (like his old college coach, perhaps). If Iowa is at N'western, maybe do the same thing with the Chicago I Club. Just some thoughts.

As I have stated above and in the past (and as you stated), I think there is a huge lack of awareness of where the current facility ranks and what is being proposed. But, I bet people (like Chad Greenway) would be willing to help (and contribute) once they got up to speed on where things stand and what the vision for the future is.

Are you going to actually call the guy as he's requested like 5 times or just keep posting stuff over and over again?

Once the fundraising drive goes to the general public, how about a wall with donor bricks, or even a plaque acknowledging donors at certain levels? Not every donor for any dollar amount obviously, but figure out a price point that makes sense and incentivize people. Heck, that trick worked on me with my Inner Circle donations. I just had to have that quarter-zip pullover, LOL..

I love Iowa sports. Football, basketball, wrestling. I am sure Ashton does too. I am sure Chad Greenway does, too. Here are my thoughts:

* When you are ready, why not think outside the box like this and inform everyone where the facilities currently stand and what the vision is for the future? Ashton has sat with Gable at wrestling meets, right? I am sure he would step up and help.

* Maybe a website (or a link on the HWC's site) can be created where people can read up on the facility, see images of what it will look like, get them fired up where they can then make a pledge right then and there.

* Maybe a standard message can be typed up and sent to I Club leaders across the country, who then send that message to all members. The link to the website where I Club members can learn more and donate would be included. You could also educate people about the HWC, its importance, and the Inner Circle. As Bob stated, the HWC is "a big piece of the puzzle." I bet the casual fan simply has no idea how big.

* Additional meetings/discussions can be done at I Club meetings (example: in Minneapolis, the night before the Iowa/MInnesota meet). Again, you can educate people not just on the facility, but on the HWC, its importance, and the Inner Circle

* Interviews with the media would help, too; Chad Leistikow of the Des Moines Register, I am sure, would write something up (and tweet about it) to get the word out because this is a big deal.

* I honestly think most casual wrestling fans (like Ashton, for example) thought when Carver was upgraded/renovated, wrestling's needs were also addressed. Hawkeye Nation simply needs to be educated on this issue and I know they will step up

* Like you said, I bet people will be surprised that funding for a new facility is where it is at.

* Who knows, once everybody is informed of the situation and additional money starts rolling in, maybe you can add more bells and whistles to the facility.

I would go for a $1000 brick, in payments of course. Have a hard time telling my wife that we bought a brick for a grand. Of course, this should be above and beyond the Inner Circle stuff.

My daughter went to middle school at Cedar Rapids Franklin with Chris (Ashton) and Mike Kutcher. As a wrestling fundraiser, I can tell you that Ashton is adamant about protecting his privacy. I thought I had a path through a solid contact with Mike, but was shot down. It would take someone at Gable's level, or even presidential, to get through.

1st goal = 10 Million to Announce the project
2nd Goal = 14 Million to Move forward
3rd Goal = 18 Million Estimated total cost

Raised so far = 8 million (Awesome BTW)

Donation Level (Donors Needed) to Reach 1st goal
$1,000.00 (2000)
$750.00 (2667)
$500.00 (4000)
$250.00 (8000)
$100.00 (20,000)
$50.00 (40,000)
$25.00 (80,000)

Obviously, Large donations drastically change donors required.

Want to contribute or start a group, call Bob Nicolls 303-840-5205.

Next Steps:
  1. Start a Local Group of Donors Interested in Pledging.
  2. Create Donation Tiers to Drive Donations
  3. Create a Website where Donors Can Pledge
  4. Market the Website to Alumni, HWC donors, etc
@bnicolls ,

Just curious. Will there be naming rights to the facility (that could help fund the facility)?

it seems that the trend is to now grant naming rights to practice facilities, at least it is up in Minneapolis / St Paul.

(1) Treasure island Resort and Casino got the naming rights to the Minnesota Wild practice facility; it is called the "Treasure Island Center."

(2) The Minnesota Timberwolves partnered with the Mayo Clinic; their practice facility is named "Mayo Clinic Square"

(3) The Minnesota Vikings brand new headquarters and training complex is called the Twin Cities Orthopedics (TCO) Performance Center. Everything on the grounds (the main building, the stadium, the Vikings museum, etc) is branded "TCO." And, of course, they are the official orthopedic provider of the Minnesota Vikings.

I have no idea what TCO paid for the naming rights (the terms were never released).

The Vikings, just like Iowa wrestling, outgrew their old training facility.

This was the official announcement of the 20 year agreement:

New Vikings HQ to be named for Twin Cities Orthopedics
By DAVE CAMPBELL

The Minnesota Vikings have secured naming rights for their new headquarters, with local physician group and sports medicine provider Twin Cities Orthopedics.

The Vikings announced a 20-year agreement Tuesday with TCO at the groundbreaking ceremony for the training facility and team offices they'll move into in 2018.

Financial terms weren't disclosed, but the campus will be called the Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center. An expandable 6,000-seat venue, one of five outdoor fields, will be named TCO Stadium.

Twin Cities Orthopedics will also construct a full-service center set to open around the same time on the sprawling suburban site, where players can go for MRI tests and consult with orthopedists.

The Vikings long ago outgrew their former space that opened in 1981 in Eden Prairie. Punts hit the ceiling of the indoor practice field, and business staff were scattered among three buildings.

A year ago I made a 5 year pledge for the facility. I worked with Kevin Collins from the Iowa Foundation. I just had to fill out a 1 page form with payment information and your pledge amount. You can choose how to make your payments, i.e monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc. If you want to get the ball rolling, Bnicolls has graciously given out his phone number or WWDM call also help you get started or you can email Kevin Collins, which I provided earlier in the thread.

Joe is spot on. While the campaign will be formally opened up to the public after some additional work with high-level donors is completed, fans are more than welcome to make pledges at any time.

It’s probably easiest to just email Kevin or call Bob, but if you don’t feel comfortable contacting those guys directly, feel free to email me at kurdelmeierrocks@gmail.com and I’m happy to get you hooked up.

It’s worth emphasizing that pledges can be spread over at least 5 years and possibly up to 7, allowing you to make a larger donation and feel it less. And of course, all donations are 100% tax-deductible.

One example of a corporation who might want to put their name on the building: HyVee advertises inside Carver Hawkeye Arena; during basketball telecasts, you constantly see HyVee signage. HyVee obviously pays for that.

What would they pay to put their name on the outside of a building, where it could be seen by

* thousands going to basketball games and wrestling meets?
* those visiting the museum on the first floor?

Just brain storming. Maybe I am wrong and there is not a company in Iowa that would want their name on the building. If so, no biggie.

I never said there is not a company in Iowa that would help or be willing too.
Top Companies an Top Business leaders should be our targets. We dont have Pro Football/Sports and Billion dollar Hospitals.

Ashton keeps getting brought up and i understand why. However, from the sound of it, he is very tough to contact(people usually are when you're after$), so not sure thats gonna amount to much. Although, who knows maybe he is involved but wants anonymity. What about all those big nfl lineman the hawks keep pumping out? You know, the former wrestlers that kf loves to turn into first round draft choices. You would think those guys, especially the home grown iowa boys, would like to help their alma mater. Cant believe I'm typing this, but a mil to those guys seems like a drop in the bucket...

Naming rights will be available...Keep in mind this isn't really an official project until we get to 10 million...or won't be announced as such until then.

I have no firsthand knowledge but I can imagine that the NFL guys get asked a lot on football projects, and we have some that are not fully funded yet.

My personal opinion is the fundraising gets easier when Barta ANNOUNCES he supports it, tells the public we have 10mm raised and we need another 8...

Anyone got 8mm ? I will try and get naming rights for you.

There have been a lot of requests for more publicity for the project, etc. I think it’s worth clarifying why these things haven’t yet been done.

The cart has been before the horse from the start on this project. The reason there has been so much information released already is because of the passion of the Iowa fan base.

Think about it — the facility hasn’t even been recognized by the U of I as an official project, and nearly 50% of the funding has already been raised. That just doesn’t happen under normal circumstances, but the fans have pretty much taken matters into their own hands and Coach Brands has taken the initiative to get this thing going.

I want the thing to be built pronto just like the rest of you. That said, there still is an orderly process that has to be followed. Since this project will be funded 100% by the fans (another remarkable aspect of the whole thing — that almost never happens), a certain amount of funding has to be raised before the project gets officially announced by the U of I and the campaign goes public.

Rest assured that Kevin and his team at the Foundation are poised to take this thing public in a big way when the time comes, but that stage has yet to be reached. Hopefully it goes public very soon — possibly within just a couple of months — but it’s currently premature to do so, and that’s why those steps have yet to be taken.

Why the hell are you so concerned about Fran? Shouldn't you be more concerned about yourself? How about you spend the next week reading self-help books on how to be happy because you are clearly the most miserable, unhappy poster on this board. Everyone knows you like to give your opinion about eveything, so why don't you give everyone a break from your posts and spend the time working on improving yourself.

I brought up Hy-Vee because they seem to be heavily invested wherever they have stores. In Minneapolis St Paul, they are a major sponsor of the Vikings, Timberwolves, Lynx and Wild. Every instant replay during a Vikings game in US Bank Stadium is a Hy-Vee instant replay. They're 1 of eight founding partners of US Bank Stadium and part of the agreement was to keep Target Corp (based in Minneapolis) out, so Hy-Vee must have paid a fortune to get that accomplished. Think about that for a sec. An Iowa company kept a Minnesota company out of a Minnesota stadium. Of course, terms are never disclosed.

Hy-Vee pays a lot to have their name prominently displayed in stadiums and arenas throughout Minneapolis st. Paul. How much is never disclosed. Similarly, I would think they would be willing to pay a decent amount over a long term deal to have their name on a Hawkeye practice facility as well. Obviously Carver Hawkeye Arena is still Carver Hawkeye arena.

Is there a minimum amount threshold for which pledges would be accepted at this point in the process?

In other words, if a fan was willing to pledge $5,000 over five years is that even worth counting at this point when the gap in fundraising is seven figures? It seems like such an insignificant amount of money when we're talking millions, however 200 such pledges would equal $1,000,000.

Certainly this type of donor, among others, will be sought once it goes public. I'm not sure if it is the type of pledge even worth noting at this point?

It's never too early, my friend. If you want to hop on board, just drop Kev and email and he'll be happy to take care of you. It takes him basically no time to have the paperwork sent. This applies to everyone. It's great to call Bob, too, but a quick email to Kev will do the trick, as well. Most will donate after the public campaign is launched, but there's nothing keeping anyone from jumping in right now. Heck -- some of us made our pledges a year ago and are already paying on them.

And your point is well-taken. . . . No amount is too small. Same concept as the Inner Circle. Just think of the tens of thousands of diehard Iowa wrestling fans out there. If everyone tossed in a little, this thing would be licked in no time. Nobody should feel like their donation would be too small, because it can't be. Lots of what some might consider "small" donations amount to a huge one.

And any donations from PA Hawk fans are appreciated all the more.;)
