Does Alford finally get the job?

Crean is just awful with all that firepower at his disposal, he has to be out after this year doesn't he?

I hear people saying they want Brad Stevens from the Celtics. IMO I don't think he'll leave because a) they have the number two seed in the east and b) they have the Nets round one draft picks this year and next. Those might both end up being number one overall because the Nets are so bad. Also, both this year and next are deep drafts, especially at the top. And finally c) the Warriors and Cavs runs, I see them coming to an end in the near future and Boston with that future they could build up through the draft plus what they have now, i think they can win a championship. So in short, they won't get Stevens. Maybe Alford or Greg Marshall from Wichita State

I doubt Crean gets fired. Two outright Big Ten championships in last 4 years I believe. They made some decent NCAA runs. He lost Yogi and others; Anunoby and Hartwell out with injuries (both starters) and Blackmon missed time with an injury.

UCLA is much easier for the con man to recruit to. I doubt he would fare much better at Indiana than he did at Iowa given the B1G academic requirements. Also doubt IU could afford Alford after buying Crean out, covering Alford's buy out at UCLA and paying Alford the king's ransom he would want. Alford probably has 10 4-5 star players on the roster.

Not sure how much love for Alford exists in Indiana. Ultimately they want to win, but I see Brad Stevens as a more likely candidate than Alford.

I can't believe Indi tolerates Crean for another season. He has superior talent and although they have had a lot of injuries, you can't play like that and hope to survive.

I heard rumors of Scott Drew being high on their list. I'm a Scott Drew fan, but would love to see him coach anywhere but in the Big 12.

Agree. While I don't think Crean is some top-tier coach, I don't think this year's struggles is entirely for his coaching. This team has talent, but it is mismatched and leaderless. Dakich has a keener sense of Indiana than of probably any other team, so if he's going on and on about the lack of a leader issue, I'm buying it. And the way they play does nothing to dissuade me from Dakich's assertion.

That would be a really interesting hire and I think would be one of their ideal candidates. Scott Drew has been able to bring Baylor back from the dead and win there like no one ever has....without breaking rules or unethical managing of the program.

Drew has recruited extremely well to WACO, so I can't imagine if he went to Indiana that would drop off any. His in game coaching is sometimes questionable, but he wins games and has taken Baylor to two Elite 8 appearances.

Alford seems like he has found his gold mine and likely to stay put. I don't ever recall a coach leaving a P5 conference and then come back at different school. Sure it has happened, just don't remember it though

Alford would be dumb to leave UCLA for Indiana, IMO. Stevenson would be a fantastic hire. As an Iowa and a Celtics fan I hope not.

Crean will be back, much to the dismay of a large segment of Hoosier fans. This year's team has definitely underperformed, even with their injuries, but he did just win an outright Big Ten title last year. Hoosier fans are a lot like Husker FB fans. They think they should win the national title every year.

Sad thing is Indiana fans actually think they have a shot at Stevens. What you stated in your post is exactly why Stevens isn't leaving Boston anytime soon. Players love him and is already well respected in the league. Poppovich, Spurs coach was raving about him earlier this year. Indiana bball fans are like Husker football fans still think they are an elite team top 5 school. If offered I bet Alford would leave for Indiana in a second. As much as he finally has UCLA playing well this year he will lose Ball, maybe Leaf and 3 other senior starters including his son.

The short answer is Tom Crean.

There is zero chance that Brad Stevens leaves the Celtics. Not only are the Celtics only a couple pieces away from competing for a title, they have a crap ton of draft picks coming up in what is supposed to be a loaded draft. No way Stevens leaves.

Steve Alford is a possibility down the road. But let's be real here: Indiana won the B1G last year for cripe's sake. Crean will likely be back next year. However, if next year isn't substantially better, bye bye Tommy Boy.

That's what I said above, if you're agreeing with me but then I said Greg Marshall from Wichita State was a candidate

My comment wasn't directed at anyone specifically, just a general response. I don't believe anyone but Tom Crean will be on the Hoosier sideline next season. But yes, if you believe those who think Stevens would leave the Celtics for Indiana are off their rocker, I'm with you.

I don't think Indiana wants Calvin Sampson 2.0 and that is almost guaranteed with slime ball Drew. Talk about a school with 0 academic standards and less than zero code of conduct for athletes (notice the omission of the student part). Their football program would make 1980's Barry Switzer blush.

I was reading somewhere or heard it on the radio that Stevens' players love him almost as much as the Bulls love Hoiberg. Has anyone else heard that?

A notable one was Roy Williams going from Kansas to UNC.

cream has only had three really good years at Indiana with all the talent he has recruited. Say what you want about the state of the program when Cream arrived at Indiana, but its mind boggling to me that Crean has a lower winning percentage at IU than Fran has at Iowa (and Fran came into a dumpster fire of a program).

Probably would love to leave before "The Death Penalty" comes to town....

Tom Crean. He has a lot of young talent, and they did just win the B1G last year. If they suck again next year, he's gone. I just feel that he gets one more year.

On surface Crean's B1G title gets him next year..

however don't under estimate the donor base...there certainly is a fan base that doesn't like his coaching...if a Billy Donovan wants to return to college..Indiana just might see a bigger & better future..

they can still hang their past B1G title...its about moving forward.

total guess...if Indiana continues to slide & play in the manner their coach has them playing...I think he is gone.

I agree with the above. Losing AG was a big hit this year fro them as well.

I thought Dakich was campaigning for the job after watching the replay. Really was hard on Indiana through most of the game.
