Seems like it's become a prerequisite if you want to coach a men's sport at Iowa that you swear to do whatever necessary to suck every ounce of energy and excitement out of the room before entering. F*cking sad.

Isn’t the rule now that a MFF in this situation affects NCAA seeding? If so, and if Gabe is the starter, I’m confused as to why Ferrari didn’t MFF to Gabe.

Overall a good showing. We did what we were expected to do. As Ironside noted, we have some things to fine tune, and that's why we have this tourney.

Gable talked about "putting on a show." The reason his guys won OW awards was because they put on a show. Lewis. Davis. Kistler. Alger.
We have some real hammers in our lineup now, but we failed to put on a show. That's why the kid from Navy won OW at our hometown tourney.
The Arnold/Ferrari non-match is on my mind, for sure--that's Brands's failure to put on a show, but that's just part of it. Ironside noted that we coasted in too many matches, and I agree 100%.

Kueter needs major work on finishing takedowns. Gets caught underneath way too much. Single leg needs major work also. If he can't out muscle them he has a lot of trouble.

I thought you could do a double forfeit and have co champions? Maybe they were going wrestle and Gabe did get dinged up. Shouldn’t hurt Gabe in seeding if he takes care of business during the rest of the season.

I’m good now…🤣 just talked to him. He even said he needs to work on finishing when people run. Felt good about getting riding time, something that he has been working on. I don’t mind fair criticism. It’s the other BS that shows a lack of knowledge and character 😡.

Not sure what's up with Ben. Energy looked sapped very early and just looks really sluggish to me. Not remotely what I expected out of a wrestler as accomplished as he was at a young age. Still time to take the next step but he's got a ways to go.
You don’t think Vombaur, Sparks, and Salazar start at Minnesota? They are all ranked in the top 10. 174 had 6 ranked wrestlers in the bracket. All backups?

Ferrari and Arnold not wrestling has nothing to do with medical redshirts.
I don’t see how wrestling Gabe and Angelo does anything but create issues.
1) potential injuries to either guy
2) the familiarity between the two is there. They wrestle every day in the room (id assume).
3) if Angelo wins, it likely won’t be by a large amount which basically makes scoring points at nationals a wash.
4) if Gabe wins - he’s supposed to. Kind of a trap match.
5) not sure how the Ferrari family handles another controversial match (if it became one).
6) if Angelo wins, Maybe it rubs him the wrong way if he can’t start as a freshman after “proving himself” on the mat.
I’m sure there’s other reasons too. Seems like an unnecessary risk to take. All the other iowa Guys wrestled so bitching about “growing the sport” seems like a stupid argument right now. Unless he’s a Spencer Lee kind of guy, pulling a redshirt is silly.

"In a tournament, if two wrestlers from the same team are slated to compete and one wrestler elects to medical forfeit, this will not be charged as a loss on the medically forfeiting wrestler’s individual season record form (See Rule 2.3.12.b), as this match was non-allowable for the ISRF (See Rule 9.6.4). The other wrestler will be credited with a win for the purposes of advancement only and the win shall not be counted on the ISRF."
So the soldier salute is an inferior tournament to the Midlands right now. Cool.

If Angelo is RSing this year, it makes no sense to wrestle this match. What does either him or Gabe have to gain then?

Did u see some of the finals pairings…these tournaments aren’t far off. And Midlands has a little head start.
this is how i see it too. the only reason to wrestle the match is to either
1) use it as a true wrestle-off
2) not care-about the above and ultimately the long-term potential so the fans don't whine
Our coaches (and athletes) are not perfect but let's give the benefit of the doubt this one time in regards to Gabe/Ferarri.
3) Entertain the fans who make the sport possible, and who paid good money to attend. If there wasn't an intent to wrestle each guy thru the finals then they both shouldn't have been entered. Period.
There appeared to only be 9-10 athletes in the team pic. Lots of guys missing from what I saw. Not a story.
