Sound of Freedom

We should not dance around the truth. How the Catholic Church has any sort of credibility with anyone at this point is beyond me.

That the film that was #1 at the box office over the 4th would get more mainstream attention.

The movie was #1 on the 4th, which was the movie's opening day. Not apples to apples comparison of an opening day vs the end of a long weekend, but an impressive day for an independent film.
This weekend will be the interesting ticket sales data to watch if the movie should garner mainstream media coverage. On a slow movie weekend, they have center stage, win the weekend and it will be in all the top 5 publications and shows that discuss such.
Complaining that the movie didnt receive mainstream media attention after one night is premature, Win the weekend then let's look at the attention it receives

I looked for a thread on this yesterday, glad I didn't start this one.

You just knew the usuals would shit on it because of the actors beliefs involved. But hey, lets go see another Weinstein Production featuring Tom Cruise

Well, I'm not Catholic, I'm non-denominational Christian. I would also say that it's never wise to throw the baby out with the bathwater. With anything in society we should address individual issues as they arise and not paint with broad brushes. Anyone, and I mean anyone, is capable of evil, but just because a FedEx driver rapes a child doesn't mean we should assume all FedEx drivers are evil.

I saw a anonynous comment section person say it. All I need.
Here's the link...Qanon pushes pedo conspiracies....the movie is a true story about human trafficking of underage kids...hence quasi Qanon propaganda.

Seems like a stretch to me :)

For sure. The Rotten Tomato reviews look pretty solid. I'll have to decide id I'm up to watching such dark subject matter. Lately I have been into more light hearted stuff. Minus Shiny Happy People on Amazon. That was a bit depressing.

Lol wut?

Not paint with broad brushes? You have hundreds of Catholic priests across the globe who raped children.

There is an entire data base for them, and that is just in the USA.

What planet are you on?

Rotten to the Core

Have there been any “Weinstein Productions featuring Tom Cruise?” Wouldn’t think Harvey would work with Tom Cruise after he skewered him so badly in Tropic Thunder. Not to mention Harvey Weinstein is in prison, so hard for him to produce anything. And his company was Miramax. “Weinstein Production” isn’t a thing.

1/10 on your super clever jab.

There it is....it's more about politics and who backs the film than what's in the film.

Oh that was my issue from the beginning. Ben Shaprio I care less about, he's just from what I see a standard conservative bullhorn, not a conspiracy theorist. Glenn Beck on the other hand I believe is a conspiracy theorist.

When someone you believe to be actively harming the world is funding the project you don't exactly look at the project and think "Oh I trust that this is going to be on the up and up."

What if hundreds or even thousands of FedEx drivers have been raping children since the company was founded, and FedEx’s upper management actively works to protect these drivers from local law enforcement? Yeah, maybe the driver that delivers to your neighborhood isn’t a kiddie raper, but his company is thoroughly rotten. No?

Who the F goes to the movies over the 4th of July? I don't think I've ever thought about going to the movies during that holiday. Weird
Yeah, to be clear this was the #1 grossing movie ON the 4th of July, not over the 4th of July weekend. So, on a day when almost no one would be planning to go to the movies, a movie marketed directly to conservatives debuted. More people went to see it than saw other movies on that day. That's good for the movie, and the people that made it.

Although, it might be possible that more tickets for the movie were purchased, than actual people who saw the movie. I found an article that says that the studio invented a way for people to buy tickets to the movie for other people.

"...Sound of Freedom received $14.24 million on July 4th at the box office, outgrossing its closest rival, Walt Disney's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which took in $11.69 million.

Pay it Forward Tickets, amounting to $2.68 million, pushed Sound of Freedom to become America's top-grossing film on July 4th, a significant holiday for the summer movie season.

Pay It Forward is a patent-pending technology innovation developed by Angel Studios. It allows moviegoers to purchase tickets for other people whom they want to see a particular film. It was first launched in theaters for the Angel Studios movie His Only Son in March, 2023."

So, just enough people bought tickets through this "Pay It Forward" system that the movie became number 1? I wonder who bought those, and how many *different* people bought them?

Then you would be talking about how this stuff was generally handled by ANYONE in the past. Your local school district likely would have reacted the same way as a diocese did in the same time period.

fair enough

The wife and I saw the movie last night and it was incredible. Well done and intense. Glad we went and I highly recommend it.

BTW....I am Catholic. It is horrific how children were preyed upone by truly evil people and those deeds were also covered up by evil people. I am thankful that the changes that are being made will make this scurge never happen again. I have 2 nephews who are Priest (Within the last 10 years) and a niece who is a Nun. They are all wonderful deciples of Jesus and we are proud of them. I did ask the Nephews what some of the changes were that were put in place. The main gist is that the Priesthood (and offices above) had become a place for Homosexual pedofiles to hide out and prey on boys. They have said that with the new screening process...that will be caught. I pray that it has that effect.

So that means ALL Catholic priests are child rapists? Thank you for that valuable PSA.

Reality check, 4% of the 400K+ priests have been accused of abuse (and yes even .1% is too much). I bet when you see a Muslim, you automatically assume he's a terrorist too, right? smh

We let our guard down, and those damn homosexuals infiltrated our ranks! More evidence that we must stamp out homosexuality!

Why are you defending them?

IMO, it shouldn't be marketed to any specific group. Human trafficking should transcend politics, religion, etc.

Quite honestly bins…anything with Glen Beck’s name attached, is subject to out and out ridicule. He has earned his reputation as a liar and phony and it is well documented. If I had any product I was trying to promote, I would go out of my way to avoid any association with Beck. The guy has ZERO credibility…..unles your are mentally unstable.

also remind me not to debate you

they should have gotten the death penalty like SMU
So, no more athletic department. Ever. Don't hold those in the wrong accountable, punish everyone, including the future generation.

By your logic:
  • All Catholics are pedofiles
  • All cops are bad
  • All white people are racists
  • All Muslims are terrorists
  • All Drag Queens are groomers
  • All Republicans are MAGAts
  • All Democrats are crazy
  • All pro-lifers hate women
  • All pro-choice hate babies
  • etc. etc. etc.
You sound like a miserable person.
