South Dakota St QB Mark Gronowski visiting Iowa today, Jan 3. He won TWO Nattys, went 49-6 & threw for 10,330 yds & 93 TDs

It's one thing to "recruit" him. Did Iowa offer him?
Why would he want to come to Iowa now; what could Iowa possibly do to enhance his draft status?

I hope he does come, that would be great, but I'm looking at it realistically.

Iowa will have to work with Sullivan, Brown, Stratton, and Jimmy Sullivan. Next year is Lester's year to prove his talent. The one year honeymoon is over, that ended yesterday. Expectations are now officially elevated.

Prepare for disappointment.
You’re probably right. I’m probably reading into Dochterman’s declaration that Iowa “must get him, no excuses” commentary on a recent podcast even before he declared. I’ll be laughing for sure when Doc starts making excuses for the staff when they can’t land him.

Dochterman said that?!?

That was the year of Duce

Hopefully this means that there is one less team we have to beat out for him.

That's actually a pretty big development. Among the chatter, it seemed like Washington State was the favorite. I've seen a number of people say Northwestern, but their offense is worse than ours. Coming to Iowa, he'll have an actual chance at winning. Going to Northwestern, he'd be lucky to win anything. NW is bottom of the barrel.

Miami is another destination, but if he wants to stay close to home, get a bag, and win, Iowa would qualify. We've got about a 95% chance to lose against Ped State and Oregon, but at least he can display his skills on the national stage at Kinnick.

I don’t get people crapping on Iowa’s OL. They aren’t perfect in pass blocking but we are returning an all B1G C and 2nd team all B1G OT. Our OL should be good along with the running game. Our WR aren’t great but a lot of that is just that we haven’t had a good QB in forever. Would live to see what we could do with one.

I worry about WR and maybe not targeting TE enough, OL is less of a worry

We may not have a game changing WR on the team, but we do have game changing RBs, very solid TEs returning, and can potentially add a good (likely not great) WR from the portal yet along with developing the current young WRs. And I agree, the OL shld be above average to good next year. I believe the pieces are there for a decent offensive year. Once the emotions wear off, I think that’s a realistic pitch for Gronowski. Start there, add in a competitive NIL package, emphasize the close-to-home and Midwest factor, and I can see at least a compelling argument to say Iowa is right in the mix (or SHOULD be).

I can’t believe I’m saying this out loud, but I might actually be more concerned with the defense next year. Look at all we lose and that is from one of the most underperforming Iowa defenses we’ve had in a long time imo (compared to expectations that is).

They had like a combined 750 starts to begin the 2024 season - You don't get much more experience than what we had this year....

I don't know what's going on, but, I believe our (Kirk and staff) expectations have slipped. Kirk doesn't expect the best out of his assistants, and that trickles down to the players.

I know people don’t like to hear it but we now have enough evidence to say Doyle was the difference maker on the OL. Kirk is the technician, Doyle was the ass kicker. It’s been well documented that Doyle was more hands on with that group more than any other.

We have heard for 5yrs how the OL was to be better... and we still can't pass protect. Doing the same thing with the same guys and expecting a different result...

Dont expect Sullivan to be starter next year. Kirk has already thrown him under the bus.

I'm willing to bet anyone that the defensive efficiency ranking is higher than that of the offense next year if you're interested.

Listening to Legends and Listeners, Chad Leistikow said he posted an article where he predicted the 2025 starting line ups, and that Gronowski would be Iowa's starting QB in 2025. He said it wasn't a wink or nudge or anything about Gronowski, but he seemed pretty confident.

I hope I’m wrong but I think Doc and Leistikow are both wishful thinking homers

You’re not wrong(more so Leistikow than Dochterman,) that said, to say they are more informed than nearly every poster on this board is a colossal understatement.

It definitely means more than you, me or hawkeyejackwagon2033 making such a prediction.
