Speculation (rumors) on starter leaving team

Maybe. You can't replace the game experience Snyder has. Gervase now plays a key role and the door just opened for Craddieth.
Craddieth already was going to see opportunity this year ... but you're right, even more opportunity is opening up if he can seize it.

If this is true, I think the Iowa football staff needs to take a serious look at the support system they have in place for its players that go through significant injuries or personal things in their life.

Brandon shows up on campus as a walk on, busts his tail and earns his scholly, earns a starting job, academic Big Ten, named to the leadership council as a junior. He went from a starter on the leadership council to being dismissed from the team by that same leadership council within 15 months. What changed? 2 major knee injuries and i think 4 or 5 surgeries on that knee. There was an article this spring about how tough this rehab has been on him.

Ultimately, the responsibility lies on Brandon, but could the football staff done more to help him out and not let it get to this point?

I would have to guess that the Iowa football team has one of the best support systems in the country.

What a bummer of a week or so. Down 3 starters already for the opener. And that's just from off the field crap. What's a good over-under # to set for practice casualties?

Ndsu oops I mean niu has to be pumped.

Well, technically down one starter.

At this rate I wish the season started tomorrow. Out a couple of guys already with camp not even starting. As much as I hope not we’re bound to lose a couple more guys durin camp to injury and other issues.

Also I think Snyder being gone really takes away for the chances of seeing that linebacker/Saftey hybrid

Don't leave Brents or Merriweather off the list.
I still like Brents at CB ... he'll be in the picture there ... with Boswell and Rugamba gone.

If we're talking about safety ... you're right, Merriweather and Moss could firmly be in the picture there too.

That's not what was posted today, playing time is the issue.
He still might have done something wrong. In turn, that something might have cost him the opportunity to see the field as much as he wanted and could have caused him to decide to transfer. We may not know for sure. I doubt that Iowa would publicly hurt his chances at other opportunities..
I hope it's as simple as playing time and there were no other factors involved.

He was probably on a form of probation. The thing that sucks is all of the work he put into it and how freaken close he was. You are talking about an incredibly long, painful and probably lonely road. And here you are a few days before the practice.....damn.

Likely a number of reasons for leaving that fans will never totally learn about.

My guess is that he was losing snaps to the underclassmen and it became an attitude problem as well. KF is pretty good at giving guys the opportunity to regain their standing on the team.

Kid effed up and paid for it, imo.

He's 23 years old...

Yeah ... but my wife and I live by a motto ... and I think it is a pretty good one .. it should hurt to be stupid. Nobody is immune ... and sometimes, when we're stupid, we're bit worse than at other times. The life lesson ... work harder to not be stupid ...

Sounds like he was in the doghouse and wasn't going to get out of it. All this speculation about legal or behavioral issues is pure speculation, at best. Why would SDSU welcome him so quickly with open arms if he's a nuisance?

If you think Snyder left the team on his own volition a week before camp starts, I’ve got some ocean front property right next to Kinnick Stadium to sell you...

The program is allowing him to leave on seemingly good terms because they want to afford him the opportunity to play somewhere else.

I think the secondary departures with Rugamba and Snyder relates to the influx of talent/athleticism upgrades in the secondary with these new young pups (red-shirt/true freshman) that landed on campus back in early June. I realize they have not put on pads yet..... but I get the feeling some of these young kids can do things athletically that others can't.

We have no idea. By all accounts, Iowa has as much support for players as any in the country. Look at how Iowa supported Welsh when he took a leave of absence from the team to deal with depression. The entire time, KF said nothing but positive stuff about Welsh (as he should have) and let him have his space and deal with the issue. When Welsh was ready to come back, he was welcomed back with open arms. If Welsh had decided to not come back, KF would have just said he decided to leave the team and left it at that.

If -- caveat here -- this is true about Snyder being gone, I'm not sure how you can blame Iowa for lack of support here. At some point, everyone of us is responsible for the decisions we make. Iowa players have access to academic support devoted just to them, access to both their position coach and the support staff coach (Binns), their teammates and the S&C coaches.

He's 23 years old according the Hawk Central piece Leistikow did on him in June. If he's off the team, I wish him nothing but the best and hope he finds happiness and satisfaction with his life going forward.
Well said. You can't monitor these young men 24-7. We're all where we are in life because of the choices WE'VE made. Some people never seem to get that. Wish him the best going forward.

In listening to KF over the years be interviewed in national radio settings and in off-season pieces from Iowa media, he's rather big on having players in his program learn what it is to be a responsible man, and part of that is dealing with your actions. As I said, I'm always open to the possibility that support programs can be improved. But quite frankly, if it was my kid in the program I would want him to not have every single second of their day supervised by the football team. How do you learn to really manage your time or make choices if you eliminate every possibility for a mistake by having a coach/other person watching you at all times? Best of luck to Snyder this year and in the future.

Reading between the lines of Brandon's own statement, his departure has nothing to do with playing ability or because others leap frogged him due to on-field performance. That said KF wasn't going to let him see the field much either because of other unsaid reasons that will remain unsaid thereby allowing for a dignified parting. These things happen (though the timing seems to be a Iowa special) and Brandon will do well on the gridiron elsewhere. Hope Iowa can do the same.

Couple of reasons:

1) If a player doesn't want to be in your program, it's not in the coach's interest to stop them from leaving.
2) He's received his undergraduate degree from Iowa, so he is free to transfer anywhere he would like with no restrictions from Iowa.

But Kirk granted him the transfer which allows him to avoid sitting out next year. I'm just saying, KF didn't need to do that and it certainly wouldn't fit the doghouse narrative being pushed in this thread.

I would bet that Kirk helps find a landing spot for someone like Snyder, even if his final departure is on less-than-ideal terms. I'm sure he would be honest with the SDSU staff that Snyder is a good person who made too many mistakes here, but may deserve another shot elsewhere.
