Spencer, any news?

Good interview, didn’t really get into what exactly his health issue is. Still not really training, hopes maybe to compete late in the year. Enough time has past, can we get something definitive on why exactly he wasn’t able to train/compete the last month of the season?

Maybe Im out of touch, but can someone explain to me the rings on his fingers.

Im as big as a spencer fan as almost anyone, but the rings remind me of that screwball deep voice announcer guy that knows nothing about wrestling!

Not this guy?

I'm always confused by the Olympic qualification process, and it seems to change every cycle. Can anyone who understands this stuff explain what Spencer's path to the OTT is? Or is he already qualified based on past achievements?

He has 3 options to qualify for OTT that I am aware of:

1. Bill Farrell in Nov- highest placing US wrestler that finishes in the top 4

2. US Open in Dec - finish top 5

3. Last Chance in Mar - winner qualifies

So since Zane didn't place at Worlds, is it everyone on an even playing field? Nobody sitting in finals or whatnot?

Much obliged. I assume that he won't be eligible to try to qualify the weight himself at Pan Ams or the World Olympic Qualifier?

Pan Ams, no. Only one of Zane, Vito, Gilman, or Fix are sent to qualify the weight there.

If it comes down to the final qualifier, the OTT champion is sent. So theoretically yes, it could be Spencer in that scenario.

Vito gets a pass to the semis at either 57 or 65.
I really wish the IOC would just get on board with all ten Olympic weights. It can't be that much harder to administer. We miss out on tons of great wrestling, and you get arbitrary results like Vito and Zain only getting byes to the OTT day one semis, but Dake and Parris get auto bids to the finals with lesser finishes, just because their weights are Olympic ones. Not to mention all the tweeners who don't get to reach their potential because they happen to fall in the big gap between weights.

Thanks. I'm learning, slowly.

Introducing our newest Olympic sport for 2024. [There has to be someone on the NLWC payroll that can coach this.]

I hope he’s found a way to have full blown cardio workouts. If he’s getting into wrestling shape, the world is on notice, bad knees and all.

Agreed. Their needs to be a strong push to get back to the full Olympic weight classes. Wrestling never should've been on the chopping block. Now that it's safe, fight to bring back all of the weights.

Listening to FRL this morning, it sounds like Spencer's training is going in the right direction. He is actually able to train without limitations. Felt like nothing but positives when I was listening. Flo was there last week filming for a Spencer / Austin documentary. CP said he was rolling with Real, which in my opinion is a good sign. Also said Austin is looking big. Pretty certain Austinn is going 65 kg.

Yeah, I’ve also been following Spencers twitch streams and he said he is in ‘hardcore training mode right now’, and as redm18 mentioned in another thread, he doesn’t need to wear any knee braces/sleeves anymore. I’m hoping he can condition and wrestle fully and it remains that way.

How is this twitch stream stuff, is there enough content worthy of spending the time. Im in my 50’s and dont really “stream” as of yet.

What's the latest? Progress physically? Next expected tournament he's wresting in?.

I don't think that's very likely. If we don't qualify at Pan Am then whoever wins the weight at trials will go to the last chance. If they can't qualify there then they were likely not going to medal anyway.
While I think we qualify, I don't agree with this statement. There are world medalists at these tourneys. If you get a bad draw and slip up, sorry.

I think Spencers next event will be at Pan Ams in February. I was told Richards will be the one trying to qualify the weight at the Pan Am qualifier 4 days later since Gilman and Suriano turned it down.
