Spencer, any news?

I understand why Richard’s is the guy but that doesn’t give me a lot of confidence we qualify the weight.
Richard’s is the rep based of being the rep at last years Worlds right? If that’s the case then Suriano and Gilman didn’t get a chance to pass unless I’m missing something.

Correct on him being the rep because of it.

But Fix, Vito and Gilman all could have challenged him for the spot.

I think Richards will be fine. as mentioned above. RBY does not look good at 57. I think it was a bad decision. 133 was not an easy cut for him.
rby has a long history of wrestling just enough to win a match...i'm not taking much from him only getting a 1 point win

Vito and Fix are trying to win at title at 133 this year so it makes sense that they didn’t challenge. Gilman just had another kid and making 57kg isn’t easy for him anymore. I don’t think doing it to challenge Zain and doing it again for pan ams is in his decent plan right now.

Those 3 must have a lot of faith in Richards qualifying the weight then. If you feel you are going to be the USA representative at 57 kg and want to wrestle in the Olympics you make a few sacrifices. Vito and Fix's decision makes a little more sense than Gilman not having it in his descent plan.

RBY has made scratch 57 while competing in Mexico. The competition wasn't great obviously but he has made it and wrestled

It's not a good idea, but is it a *better* idea than 65 kg? Probably, imo.
He was upwards of 150 AFTER a hard workout and sauna session. It's actually a stupid decision. Lift. Eat. Have energy, score points.

competition level matters. I can promise you the competition was worse than our U17s

Actually, that's a horrible comparison - better comparison would be a State Level (PA, IL, OK) Fargo-Qualifier tournament.

Depends on whether his goal is to make Mexican team and make it to the Games, or try to win the whole thing. I’m guessing he knows where he stands w.r.t. Zain and Nick Lee, not even considering Yianni. And none of those are even guaranteed a medal.

I get that… but I’m genuinely surprised he’s taking this route. 133 hurt him pretty bad his senior year.

Listening to Spencers interview only limited spots are available per country in ranking series events. Therefore he was unable to go to Deglane I believe. Does anyone think it was calculated to enter Gilman then drop out eliminating a spot for Lee to get competition and ranking points? I understand he had another child but. Nonetheless.

i just don’t see how courtney would have slotted in over him

I can't imagine Cuba would have someone like that represent them.
What is his background, saw where Dresser said “we are trying to get him eligible again for international”.

Also, is Ames trying to be the Midwest Little Havana? Ortega, Echemendia, Bastida

Bad decision? His other choice is to not compete for the Olympics. It's his only realistic choice unfortunately for him and loads of other guys in the same boat.

Didn't realize he was that big (assuming you're correct). If true, then I'd agree he should go 65kg. Get on the David Taylor diet.
