Right? Dude doesn’t even know the names of some of Iowa’s gratest. Sheesh… Everybody should know Breff Mintcap. Moran..
Thats when i know you know im right….like most on here when wrong or challenged you pick at spelling and name calling. Let me guess your a biden supporter.
Hay-o yes… Drop and stack…
more credible evidence im right! Keep it coming. It shows you level of knowledge. You guys remind me of the trans community supporters that dont like the truth so get infront of a mic and scream their ignorant rant. Good philosophy. Im sure your real successful in the world outside of wrestling.

Yeah… You can’t let them control that arm. All leverage is gone when you leave your feet and let gravity do its thing.

I did grow up wrestling, unlike a few of our vocal yokels.

Tough to put this list in order but all ahead of SL. No question. They had tougher compitition, rarely missed matches even when not 100%….even though every wrestler by nationals isnt 100%. But only 1 guy gets to use it as the excuse with every poor preformance or loss. Many on this list won 3-4 B10 titoes snd medaled at worlds and olympics. All these guys always showed up to compete. All of them were in incredible shape and never tired. I would put SL after this group mixed with several others. I know this looks like an old school list but frankly we havent produced or developed athletes as good as this group in recent yrs.

Tom brands
Terry brands
Jim zalesky
Ed banach
Lou banach
Barry davis
Eric jurgens
Mark ironside
Joe williams
Lincoln McIlravy
Brett Metcalf
Randy lewis
——————
SL
Several others!

Maybe someday soon we will see above the line competitors for hawks again!

I am about as big an Ed Banach guy as you can get on here so imo, he is the only guy that can hang with SL in terms of GOAT status. I measure this in terms of NCAA points and overall dominance. I think the one guy on PSU that is in this neighborhood is Bo Nickel.

We have a lot of really great guys in our history but none as dominant as SL. If you are going off strictly wins and losses, you forgot one very important name.

Obviously few here have been to a meeting lately, can you provide us more details of the goings on?

PS - KEEP THE POLITICS OFF THE WRESTLING BOARD... Oh @RossWB, on @RossWB, where oh where are you? Come out, come out wherever you are!

Watched many of Ed's matches in person. Not on Spencer's level. Frankly, not even close, IMO. Incredible motor and great power. Relentless, much like a bigger Barry Davis. But not dominant like Spencer was.

Sure but look at the amount of points at NCAAs. He’s top 5 all time and a 3 timer. That’s a shit ton of pins and bonus. Of course this is comparing a guy that was never really healthy during his time (Spencer). If SL had been, I think this convo is a formality.

For just a part of a thread, we got to talk some actual wrestling. Even though your take is misguided, thank you MAGAman 😂

Greatest Hawkeye, eh?

Ed Banach was downright scary. I saw Banach wrestle, and wrestle hurt, seem to recall a huge bandage around his head at one time. He went fists with his bigger twin brother (2 timer and Olympic champ) Ludwig in the practice room. He came in as a redshirt freshman and started beating the beejeezus out of everyone. Ever check out his freshman NCAA bracket? It took an All Time Great in Mark Schultz to take him out of his 4 peat rhythm ( and Ed wrestled the dumbest match of his life).

If Randy Lewis doesn't dislocate his elbow, he's a 3 timer plus a 2nd as an 18 year old, and ends his career with 90 wins consecutively and takes over Ed Banach's top spot for career pins. Majored the defending 134 champ ( 4 time finalist Darryl Burley) in the NCAA finals. Made an Olympic Team while STILL in college. Made a second Olympic Team while STILL in college.

Also, you seem to forget Lincoln McIlravy. Wait...he had a head wrap too. He went 1,1,2,1. Concussions. He dealt with concussions. He won as a TRUE freshman and only 18. His only loss in the championships was Gable/Owings-ish- with Steve Marianetti wrestling the match of his life.

Joe Williams went 7,1,1,1 and made 6 World Teams, won 10 National Freestyle Championship with 6 National Senior Freestyle golds.

TJ Williams lost exactly ONE match in collegiate wrestling for Iowa. What can you say about that? Not sure what other losses you can extrapolate from his season at Lassen ( he lost his championship final), but he was a four timer in Illinois.

T and T had much better weight brackets ( old person bias here). You guys can probably recite from memory their accomplishments.

Barry Davis possibly is the most accomplished Hawkeye, or is it Jimmy Z? Their weight classes were brutal.
Davis had to ( and did dominate) NCAA and World Silvers Darkus and McFarland. Davis still holds the career win total. Made an Olympic Team while STILL in college.

Jimmy's bracket had 2 timer Ricky Stewart, and Kevin Jackson ( how many WCs/Olymp golds?) and Mark Schmitz who claimed pretty much everyone's scalp except Jimmys'. Jimmy whomped on 3 timer Nate Carr 15-5 in the dual meet, prompting Nate to cut the weight (again).

If, if, if about Spencer Lee. Good, brave kid, but hurt, unfortunately. Great career thus far. Quite frankly, his opponents with the exception of Suriano haven't been a bunch of animals. He hung in there to help his team get over the PSU hump, and that's worth something. Alot.
I wish he would have finished out this last NCAA tournament, for his own sake.
To declare him the GOAT is a premature ejaculation.

This, while all these guys were absolutely in the GOAT discussion, Spencer was just as dominant in a way more injured state. I realize nobody is a 100% at NCAAs, but how many were on none or 1 acl. That has to play a part in your decision making imo. Spencer is top 3 as a Hawk for sure ever imo.

Love hawkeye wrestling. I just obviously know more than most of you and your delusional obsessive idolization of SL. Its just not there. Not goat or close to it. Def one of the greats between 12-20.
No one took issue with you claiming he isn't the goat.

You were outright disrespectful and disparaging towards Spencer though. You initially claimed he might not even be in the top 20 Hawks all time which is asinine and shows that you're talking out of your ass.

@sweatybetty had a really good post above. No one will take issue with that.

You are a clown.

Who else…..Nolf for 1. Several have but dont put it on national press. They all finished tourneys…..look at the nebby kid. Several others. GOATs dont quit……or dodge.

Nolf and "nebby kid" aren't hawks. You must be senile. You're displaying a strong lack of comprehension.

It is the start of a long list of wrestlers iowa and others that stay in the fight to not be a quiter, fight for the team and personal accomplishment that were as “not 100%” as SL.

Listen i loved watching him and think hes great. Still firm he falls in with a group of great hawks between 12-20.

Help me out here....Why is it obvious that you know more than most everyone here?

Actually there are many here who know a great deal about wrestling and have seen a great deal of Iowa wrestling and, like Tom Brands, they do not share your opinion regarding Spencer Lee. We've heard your logic and it doesn't stand up to either the history or the eye test where SL is concerned.

Because ive been reading rivals for yrs. Some good stuff some garbage. Most have foggy goggles on when it comes to this topic. Short memories too. There isnt one guy on that top 11/12 SL would beat if they were equal sizes. Not one.

First theres not one guy on that list that SL would get a 10 pt lead on. So when deep in the second or in 3rd period when SL is struggling to breathe or move his feet, everyone on list would lite him up deep in match. Hell thats was brands, ironside, metcalf, wrll i guess all of them that constantly scored more in 3rd than previous periods. No chance SL beats any of them head to head. And most those guys had tougher competition.

Thats just one of several reasons why.

The degree of anti Iowa and anti Spencer PR led by Smalls, Mineo, and PSU trolls (and FLO to some degree) is quite impressive. Intentionally dishonest - Slanderous even. If only the Cesspool had a moderator, some of this could be avoided.

This site used to be a great resource for Iowa wrestling information. The PSU trolls and trash talking Smalls have Mede it a true cesspool. The biggest embarrassment on this site is not the occasional classless post, but the lack of a moderator. Makes me embarrassed that spend time reading this crap or that I pay Rivals for their info. Refuse to pay Rokfin. I need to cancel my Rivals subscription.

You're paying to be here?!

Agreed regarding lack of moderation. I don't like heavy moderation, but the recent skank slur for example should've just been removed.

I pay Rivals for their behind the paywall info for Iowa football, basketball and premium forum - not this message board. Their embarrassment lack of moderation on this board is why I would quit.

So if someone disagrees they are trolls or PSU fandom. Wrong. Im a hawk fan and SL fan. I just happen to have more experience than most you “fans” and certainly more common sense of reality. I appreciate your unconditional support of the hawks and SL but its just most the time fans being fans and not truthful realistic opinions.

"Restate-maybe top 20 hawk top 50 ncaa. Maybe!"

Your exact quote one page ago.

You don't have any common sense. Rather, based on your postings in this thread I think you're going senile. I don't even know why you quoted my post and responded with an entirely different topic.

You claim you're a SL fan but you've spent the last few pages slandering him and his dad.

Your nursing home should put parental controls on your internet access.

Im guessing your still talking about your 14-7 freshman yr in HS and 6th at your 2A conference somewhere where you barely lost to the kid that almost took 2nd.
