We saw what our boy, CJF, could do in his first year playing. Love his all-around game. What does CJF need to add to his game in order to get to the next level?

Better handles. Needs the ability to get into the lane with the dribble and be able to create his own shot. We run good sets and get guys open but we can get stagnant when we need someone to create their own shot.

Continue to get stronger.....continue to work on all of his skills. This is a kid that the natural maturity/experience alone will take his game up a notch. So this next year he again has Joe W, most likely Luka, and add in JBO, to go with Connor who will hopefully take another good step in his 3 point shooting...He really doesn't have much pressure with those other guys there. Take a confident guy who now has a year under his belt that should have provided him with plenty of confidence and take it up a notch.

If you just add refined skills and another step forward physically to the above paragraph.....kid should be really really good.

One thing would be the confidence and ability to take control and become a volume scorer when needed. It wasn’t required of him much last season as a RS Freshman (and the third scoring option) so he may have the ability to do it, but I wouldn’t mind seeing him trying to make something happen late in the shot clock more versus passing it off.

With continued improvement and physical development, I could really see him becoming a slightly less athletic Donte DiVincenzo type player

CJ definitely has the "IT" factor. If continues to develop physically he's gonna be a hand full.

Just looking at his HS video, especially in the state tournament, and given his HS accolades and production you have to wonder how the kid was not a top 100 four star player.

He's skinny and might be a little fragile but very talented.

I think we'll see CJ driving more often, although he beat his man into the lane a lot more often than people think. Plays good defense also.

A lot of talent on next season's roster. Which means the NCAA will cancel the season....the Curse.

Haha. Same thought on several boards. Illinois fans figure Kofi and Ayo will return. Add Wake Forest transfer Chaundee Brown. Add five star guard Adam Miller and passing wiz Andre Curbelo. Return Frazier, Giorgi, Damonte. Get 6-6 redshirts Hutcherson and Grandison into the rotation. Likely BT favorites with a couple of other teams.

And the season will be cancelled. So Illinois.

I thought I read that Ayo was committed to leaving. Kofi was still deciding. Bad info?
Coaches expect Kofi back. Scouts are telling him to go back to college.

I still expect Ayo to leave but draft projections are showing him second round or undrafted. Being told he needs to go back to college and improve his three point shot. He’s a confident kid so he may stay in.

As good as Ayo is, losing Kofi would be tougher for the team. He changes the way the team can play defense. Illinois went from a bad defensive team to one of the best.

It is our good fortune that both Louisville and Kentucky, (CJ's home state schools), passed on him.

They passed on him as a junior in high school but they would die to have him now. Especially with his father close to Chris Mack- I remember reading when he was in high school and almost chose XAVIER. I expect CJ to have a break out season and be the teams second leading scorer and most all around player outside of the Beast- Luke.....CJ can guard, handle, make plays for others and score....I would like to see him go to glass a little harder. Hes a good one blessed we got him. But expecting him to up his shot volume and expecting the coaching staff to run way more plays for him. Go Hawks

CJ is a nice player, but I don't think Louisville or Kentucky has spent a half a second thinking about him. They get elite talent athletically and CJ is not in that category. Like other Iowa shooters, he has to come up with a way to get shots when guys play up in his grill. His nagging injuries clearly impacted his first step and it didn't look like he ever got that back. CJ was much more effective when he was cutting and coming off of screens vs. taking deep 3's.

I agree with you on his game. When he is cutting and moving so well off the ball hes so much more effective.

I seem to remember CJ was extra motivated and came in clutch for us during the Cinncy game. The announcers were discussing how the Cinny coaches must be regretting never offering CJ a scholly. CJ was really hoping they would.Their loss!

He's technically from a cross river suburb, Covington Kentucky. Its like Council Bluffs and Omaha, or which Nebraska town is just across the river from Sioux City-Mikey G's hometown.
