Stanford Outland winner says it all

But congrats on the wonderful season you guys will be back again.

Right. Thanks for that wonderful back-handed compliment. Your Outland winner needs to learn how to win with some class.

Next time watch some film of the best player in the country and play some decent teams ooc and you wont get embarrassed. We have 5 new year day bowls in 6 years...

King took two dirty shots at our players, one which resulted in the referee giving him a talking. Garnett pretty much summed it up, pretty weak schedule that masked weakness. Even our lone conference loss was against a team that would probably put up 50 against every big 10 team sans msu. Dont get me started on northwestern. Not even the same team.

Looked you punked us good. You wanted to make a statement about how good you were. Your team was focused and prepared. My hats off to Stanford. It sounds like your coach did a great job contribing a disrespect factor which many of us doubt. This is Iowa who got lambasted all season nationally in terms of reputation. We lost our conference championship no less. Yet we are out talking trash before this game? That seems hard to believe. Would love to see the comments. Any links?

On our end we were totally unprepared to compete which you saw. Dropped passes, false starts, missed extra points, missed tackles, missed blocks all things in our control and a sign of a team that is unprepared. We are very disappointed in that aspect. It's no shame to lose to Stanford but to play crappy is the bummer for us.

We came off a devastating loss in the title game so the kids were down. We had a history making run for us going undefeated so the coaches wanted to soak up the first Rose Bowl trip in 25 years. Lots of factors to not being ready to play at the tremendous effort level it would take to play Stanford.

Just want to point out that we will own our defeat unlike you guys to Northwestern. I guess some games do not count. We throttled NW despite a ton of injuries and losing are top 2 RB's. One lost very early in the game. So that should be proof that we had the capability to play.

I also want to point out that this season...

NW beat Stanford,
MSU beat Oregon,
Nebraska beat UCLA,
Wisconsin beat USC

There's a couple wins against your conference this year.

Again hats off but I think your just being ridiculous.

Look at the pac 12 north if you wanna see the most dominant division in the country. The south was weak all year. North is going to have 4 teams in the 25 at end of year.

Ya Stanford is real glitzy. Their attitude seems real business like , like you guys will be working for us someday so shut the hell up. Kid just said 'back it up ' and well you saw what happend. Touchdown Stanford !
We're going to be working for you? Explain why that is again?

Ahh the classic you're not we line...its a figure of speech, boy.
Ah, the ol' fan who uses the ol' figure of speech line when it's pointed out how he equated himself as part of something he in all actuality only pays to watch.

Go hug your trees and get back in that tree house with the rest of the kids, girl.

I don't follow every thread, but I never read we were spouting off like that. Anyone else? To doubt their offensive line was a mistake, if in fact we did it.

It very well could be strong. Being 2 time zones different we do not see many of your games. Your conference bowl record is good but what was the breakdown of those wins/losses against the power 5 (plus ND, BYU). I think 9 of our 10 bowl games were against the Power 5 so we take on a lot of tough opponents in high stakes games. Lots of opportunities to be critiqued and criticized. We get everyone's A game for sure.

Being in a cold weather climate we travel to the deep south or far west for our bowl games often playing teams in their near proximity surroundings. We do not get that advantage as a conference nor get to see how warm weather teams react in adverse conditions like wind, rain, cold. Some of the basis of how we have to play is predicated on the varrying weather conditions in our season. Then the bowl is in warm and perfect conditions. I'd pay big money to see Bama roll up into MSU in November when it's 20 degrees with a 25 Mph wind and see how they look.

King said he was going to "pancake" Garnett, which doesn't even make sense seeing as how he is on defense. I don't have a problem with your kids not knowing who McCaffrey is, but your coaching staff sure as hell should have and they game planned like they didn't.
So if it doesn't even make sense, wouldn't it seem unlikely that he ever actually said it?

But by all means, if in fact he did, please indulge us all by providing the link or other suitable reference to said statement. Many thanks in advance.

http://www.stanforddaily.com/2015/1...g-expects-to-be-able-to-pancake-josh-garnett/

Cornerback Desmond King, he of the 200 pounds, is also pretty confident that he can match up with a pulling 321-pound Josh Garnett in space.

“I like when guards pull and all that,” he said. “It’s a challenge for me, just knowing that I’m a smart guy, but I have a good, big heart, I know what I can do and the ability that I can come to the table with.”

“I took out somebody that size before my freshman year against LSU [against current Dallas Cowboy La’el Collins],” he continued. “He did the same thing, and I knocked him over… I’m looking forward to the same thing [against Garnett].”

King went on to talk about a “triangle base” that he can use to leverage when in space against big men in order to take them out of a play, which he expects to be able to use this time around, even when Garnett is chugging at full speed towards him.

Garnett just laughed it off and almost seemed disappointed in King when asked about the comments.

“We all saw that, and we all had a good laugh about it,” Garnett said. “When you call individual players out, it takes away from the mystique of the game. It takes away from the team atmosphere we built all year.”

“It’s not about myself. It’s not about Desmond. It’s not about one-on-one matchups between guys. It’s about the team. No one player or one play is going to win the game. It’s going to be a team effort. Yeah. That’s pretty much it for that.”

If Stanford is so good, why did they lose to Northwestern and Oregon? All you Stanford fans, go back to your gay California state :)

Oregon would have taken you behind the woodshed. You beat up on 11 average teams all season. Against any good teams you were 1-2 congrats.

The Buckeyes would have beat Stanford by 14 at least. Shaw will be gone to the NFL by Feb. and will get his ass handed to him there. And Stanford will have no one but white Jesus for one more year when he will then become the white Ameer Abdullah of the NFL.

No BS here, end of story

Per La Times: Pummeled in Pasadena

Football players often look for motivation in perceived slights during the week leading up to bowl games. For Stanford Outland Trophy winner and future number one NFL pick Josh Garnett, it was a declaration by Iowa cornerback Desmond King, who said he was going to "pancake" Garnett and Stanford is' no big deal'.

There were also comments from other Hawkeyes who said they hadn't heard of McCaffrey until the Heisman Trophy show and that Stanford's offensive line wasn't in the same league as theirs.

"Think they know who McCaffrey is now," Garnett said as he laughed. "They said their Oline and Dline was so good. But yet our D sacked them what ten times and we ( Stanford offensive line ) just ran over them. When you challenge guys like us, you better back it up and they didn't even come close . . . we're the wrong guys to do that to as they found out.

"We showed them what Stanford football is all about. Once the whistle blows, there's nowhere to hide on the field and they found that out too. Our coaches said they had some major weaknesses and if we just executed we would score a lot, they were right. It was easy, way easy "

This is pure garbage. Anyone can find bulletin board material if you dig deep enough but Iowa never has been a trash talking bunch under ferentz and if it makes this future cte sufferer feels better about himself by saying such crap then he can have his imaginary Friends crown him king of the world. Idiot. That smog is thicker than I thought.

You won the game. Great. Why are you so insecure you have to troll an Iowa board? Are you that lonely? Do you have trouble with the ladies? Get a life.

Stanford coaches have done nothing but amazing stuff in the NFL. Heck, at one point in the 90's almost every coach in the NFL could be traced back to the Stanford coaching tree starting with Bill Walsh. Then there is Pop Warner, Dick Vermeil (assistant coach) Dennis Green, Harbaugh, and about 30 more that were head or assistant coaches that had success in the NFL. Also, Shaw is a Stanford guy. He went to school there, got married there, and wants to stay there. The only thing holding us back would be the admissions department. See, athletes don't get to come to school by saying yes. They have to go through the same steps as other students as well.

Because good teams lost games sometimes? See Alabama vs ole miss. Think anyone is beating bama again this season..no. Stanford is the 3rd best team in the country.
I like the biased assessment. Northwestern and Oregon were flukes, but yesterday was the real team. It could just as easily be flipped. Iowa can make the same claim. Good teams lose sometimes. Came out flat on big stage, a few broken plays that went long, dug an early hole, all of which threw the game plan off and things snowballed.

Oh wait, I forgot, that narrative only works for the likes of Alabama, etc

Thinking Iowa didn't watch any film on Stanford is insane, what the comment addressed was that during the season the Iowa players didn't know of him. The time zone difference was also mentioned in that same interview - since Stanford played so late the Iowa players never watched them. Also, Kibf never said the word "pancake," that was taken out of context. I guess it's important to gain an edge no matter how one does it.

Not buying the negative comments crap. Iowa has been complimentary all year of their opponents.

Never heard if a DB saying he would pancake an OL.

Calling BS on the OP'S post.

First off, The Stanford Daily--nice work. No bias there. Outstanding.

Second, thank you for confirming the word "pancake" was not used. As noted before, that wouldn't have made sense.

Third, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree that those comments were intended to be boastful or disrespectful in any way towards Garnett. I see Desmond talk about the "challenge" (not a word you usually use when you talk about kicking someone's azz), and that he has confidence that he will perform well as he has faced similar players in the past. Title of article could just as easily been "King looking forward to challenge of taking on Garnett." But not in this paper, I suppose.

Look, And1Hawk has already pointed out the tremendous job the Stanford staff did in preparing your team, including manufacturing a chip on the players' shoulders to give you guys every possible edge. Kudos to them. From this it appears that effort had even broader involvement across campus. Well done. But to maintain this fabricated narrative of an Iowa team that has nothing but disrespect for its opponents, especially after you wiped the field with our butts, should be beneath you, I would think.

Really disappointed with the butt-hurt of my fellow Hawkeye fans. Yes, that was the worst feeling after a loss I have ever had to endure (the 2003 Orange we were at least neck and neck at the half, and the 1991 Rose Bowl we stormed back in the 2nd to make it a game), but really all you SHOULD be doing is tipping your cap to McCaffery. I said from the beginning the kid should have won the Heisman (and would've run away with it in the SEC). Breaking Barry Sanders record says it all. Most experts pegged that as one of the least likely records to fall. And he did it in a conference that actually plays defense! That's the national narrative. It wasn't "Iowa sucks" or "Iowa was overrated". The national media reaction was "Wow! McCaffery is absolutely incredible". He was the best athlete we faced, bar none. THAT was the difference. In retrospect, Parker underestimated him and didn't load the box to shadow him. But he's the type to still get his yards. Again, tip of the cap to have McCaffery in football AND Jordan Morris in soccer (hell, to just HAVE men's soccer let alone the best player and a national title)...I'll admit that I'm just jealous!

Average teams lololol

You mean like they did MSU?
And TCU? Lol
