State football playoffs begin tonight

Looks like Linn-Mar will fall to Ankeny. Down 13 heading to the 4th. Would be a rematch between the top 2 teams of the district/ division/ group whatever it is.

They have the best QB they’ve ever had statistically, and a future Hawk at wide receiver who had a big game. They’ve got a great team this year.
They have 3 power 5 recruits, 2 at receiver. They might be the most talented team in it. Should have been better than 5-4 this year.

They err sucked when I was there. Go Trojan condoms!

Of the eight 5A games, six were won by central Iowa (Des Moines suburb) schools.

How horrible is it to have to drive 3 hours for a playoff game tho? Such a disadvantage
Long travels can be a big disadvantage but there are things you can do to help. (For the players it helps to leave early and have plenty of time to shake the ride off).

What jumped out to me in this matchup is ADM having played the 30th toughest schedule (all classes) vs Spencer 140.

Close first half...ADM 43-13 final.

Friend has a son play...might go next week.

It's dumb what teams are asked to do.

Last week in volleyball Don Bosco played at Sidney in the regional finals. That is a 4.5 hour trip on a Wednesday.
And sometimes volleyball games are over in an hour.

Carroll played at Mount Vernon last night. 3 hours away!

West beat Bett.
Ankeny goes to Liberty and SE Polk goes to West.
I like Liberty as the team flying under the radar to win it all. The Polk County teams get the publicity, and deservedly so, but that is a quality Liberty team. Very well coached, and well balanced.

It's crazy the consolidation, or shrinkage... I think the 5A schools are down to 5-6 counties?
Wow. That is crazy
Dubuque- Hempstead, Senior
Linn- LM , presidents and Praire
Johnson- ICs and Liberty
Scott- bettt, PV, Dports
Blackhawk-CF, WTerloo
Polk- not sure if any burb schools are outside Polk

Western- someone else figure it out.

Wahlert waxed Assumption.

I was really impressed with Soiux City East last night. Thier qb has a cannon and is very athletic. Also didn't realize there was another Wegher brother. They almost pulled it off.

I think Valley might be in Dallas county.

Valley had a bad game plan, East has good/great dbs and wrs and below average lines. SBL best East by throwing once the whole game. Valley insisted on throwing and on D leaving their receivers one on one.

East has become a NW Iowa all star team, Winklepleck is recruiting the area, Wegher lives in South Dakota, Grimsley is from Lawton, Ford is a transfer from North, Claiborne is also from Heelan/North.

Algona mercies Harlan in 3A.

Those Harlan kids will probably by open enrolled OUT of the district.

When I went/played there(SC East) we were basically the school other good athletes in the area would transfer to if the parents couldn't afford Heelan.

But of course we all know some kids got really good discounts to attend Heelan also.

That would be crazy awesome if we were able to win state but I think the problem lies on defense. Liberty can keep up on the offensive side with anybody but I'm concerned playing Ankeny for a second time. Playing the offense live and seeing it on film are two different things.

I credit the kids and the coaching staff for getting to even this point and being ranked #1 in the RPI. This isn't a shot at any kid on the squad but I'm not sure there's a D1 kid on the roster. Lots of kids with talent but maybe don't have the measurables. They just work hard and have some sophomores playing in some big spots. I'm probably wrong but I feel like we have to be the smallest 5A school (for sure one of the smallest).

They built the school too small as it's already filled up and our biggest classes are still in the elementary. Very poor planning by the district but that's a very long story for a different day.

Waukee is in Dallas County, which borders Polk by a few miles.

And I’ve said it once and will say it again, Southeast Polk needs another high school. There’s land as far as the eye can see in the Altoona and Pleasant Hill areas, and it’s being developed at a crazy fast pace, similar to Ankeny and Waukee, which both already have 2 high schools with plans for a 3rd. But when you bring this up to Southeast Polk people, they get all butt hurt, claiming they’ll be fine and able to have just 1 high school for the foreseeable future. Translation = we’re having a lot of success in sports and don’t want to ruin it.

I read that Decorah is in a pickle over scheduling for next year with the dissolution of their conference. Round trips of over 250 miles for games?
Are you talking about their football team making round trips of over 250 miles because I’m about 90% 4A football in Iowa is still made up of districts and they would be playing other 4A schools around them. Other sports on the other hand will have to travel a bit farther.
I know they tried to get into the Upper Iowa conference a couple of times and honestly, I don’t get why the conference didn’t allow them in. Sure Decorah would probably win the conference in most sports but who cares. I think it would be more fun for some of those smaller schools to play a basketball game in a bigger gym. The UIC already has a spread of conference size anyway. West Central is probably the smallest school. For reference, they play 8 man football. North Fayette Valley plays 2A football.
If anything, I think it would suck for Decorah if they did have to join the UIC because they would destroy most teams and not really get a challenge before district/playoffs would begin.
