Still pissed 2 hours later....

Can't imagine how players feel. Complete Bullshit and just like 2013 BTT probably NCAA knock out. Fire these Clown referees.
I am too. At my age I no longer get worked up as much as I used too, but the blown call at the end of the game has me as mad about a college basketball as I have been in years.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them suspended or a formal letter issued stating they blew the call, since it was clear his foot was out of bounds. Probably wishful thinking

The ref on the baseline was looking right at Ellingson as he was calling a timeout and the prick was one of them who called a jump ball. The other one that called was completely behind Ellingson so I don't know how he saw anything. And who was looking at the players' feet that close to the corner? no one. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

I'm with ya. It's just the blatant incompetence. These ****ing clowns will be doing games again this weekend so it seems there isn't much accountability either. Frustrating

bradys head was completely buried at the time he tried to call a TO there is no way a ref could here that at the barn.

LOL, ok how about identifying a player half way out of bounds then if you want to play that game.
This is what some aren't understanding. Refs made FIVE mistakes on a play that determined an outcome..

1. Ref out of position
2. Player called timeout
3. Ref called jump ball faster than I've ever seen
4. Opposing player standing out of bounds
5. No review for player standing out of bounds..

IF ANY one of the 5 were correct we'd be in business..

Losing games like this has been going on for as long as coach Fran has been at Iowa...missed shots, turnovers, bad calls, no calls, they all hurt but we should be accustom to outcomes like this for it has happened way too often....the question everyone should be asking is why is that.....?

Wasn't pissed last night, and still not. Pretty upbeat, actually. A couple weeks ago I was worried about the team and the program - now very excited.

That call really hurt, and the timing of it couldn't have been much worse. But, the guys played through it and still had chances to win.

Really like these guys.

Me too, I can't let it go, it is pathetic I'm getting too old for this sh$t but this team deserves fair/competent officiating. This literally could mean they are not in tourney when they could of clawed their way into it. Bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel the same. I've made a conscious effort to not get too emotionally wrapped up in this stuff anymore, but after last night, I just can't help it. I can handle being beaten by a better team (and maybe we were last night) but I can't tolerate this BS officiating. That whole TO/held ball situation may well have cost Iowa the game. Draw a foul, make a couple FT's, and Iowa probably leaves with a W.

Things like last night, getting Teddy-V'ed in the 2013 BTT against MSU, etc. It's outrageous.

Honestly, I'd say more like since Alford was our coach. There were so many epic meltdowns on his watch (both season meltdowns, and in-game meltdowns) that it's hard to forget. I know we can't win 'em all but the past 17-18 years since Dr. Tom was let go have been pretty brutal. Not that there weren't some frustrating games in the Davis era, but..

A lot of these games are our (meaning players & coaches) own darned fault but there are those certain few games where I really have to lay it at the feet of the zebras. The team had basically done what it needed to do to win that game, but got screwed.

I'm still pretty pissed about the call, but won't overlook our other missed opportunities to win the game. I will probably just not watch the Sparty game this weekend. I have a feeling that is going to be a brawl. Our chances of getting any calls in that game are about zero.

This. The fact that he had to sprint to get even close to the play was bad. He should have been moving that way before Ellingson was trapped.

If I wasn't a Falcons fan also I would still be pissed about last night, but I still can't drop Sunday, so last night didn't bother me as much.

I agree with the frustration.
But I have to ask a question because I don't watch a lot of games for a variety of reasons... I noticed how the Gophs would run the shot clock down... drive the lane...and get a layup. Is out interior defense that weak? Iowa obviously doesn't have an intimidator, but Iowa has some size.
Sorry for my ignorance!

How bout the resetting off the shot clock after a block and then Iowa saved the ball from going out of bounds and then they score a basket. I still don't understand MN fans saying they were screwed over in this game.

Completely agree. Would have had a chance with this road win.

Really! Are you trying to lay this on Fran? Do you watch much basketball and other coaches?

Wow, first having to watch Pretty Boy and Belicheat on Sunday and now this....only thing worse would have been if that douch-punk from Ohio State a few years ago was somehow involved.

Hey, I like Fran and the change of culture he brought to Iowa as much as anyone, but Fran is not absolved of blame, if the shoe fits....

Here's how I look at this.

1) terrible no-call on the TO, but the tie-up foot OOB thingie, I can see if the tie-up was actually in place before the foot was out, I can see that but I don;t recall a replay that showed the MN player was OOB before the tie-up actually occurred.
2) I though the blocked shot on Jok earlier, where two MN guys go up to block the shot, then literally knock Jok down after the block - was equally terrible. Now, later in the sequence Jok got fouled and it worked out in the end...but still, he was knocked down while standing stationary after the shot...no call. Ridiculous.

But, then, in hindsight and a night's sleep on it...

3) Iowa once again had several bad possessions late in the game with a slight lead where if they get a bucket, they take more than a 1-2 point lead. These were merely huge to where the ending of the game might not have mattered.

Did the officiating suck? Hell yes. But Iowa had several late opportunities in regulation to seal that game away, and failed. THAT is what the above poster is referring to in his take on Fran and late game issues with his teams. Iowa had 4-5 possessions there before the bad call to win that game, and didn't do it.

I chalk it up to home cookin' with badly missed opportunities overall. The last 30 seconds should have never matter if Iowa TCB.

So, you think Fran's actions are much worse than the other BIG coaches? Like I said do you watch much BBall outside of Iowa games?

.

I could not have said it better myself.

We didn’t rebound nearly well enough. Given our free throw and rebounding deficiencies, we can’t turn the ball over 18 times either. Hopefully they learn from it because if you take the game last night and the prior loss at Nebraska and change those to W’s, our RPI is probably around 70 at this point and we are right on the bubble.

I typed up a long chaotic paragraph. Deleted it. In summary, I'm still very disappointed in last night's events. 1 win (that win), may end up being the difference between us making the tournament or not. Certainly much less room for error now.

I asked my Dad the same thing since I was 2 when that happened. He said it was right with it as being that bad
As I recall, the one difference in the two (and I remember being pretty pissed about the Bain call also) is that while Lute was right in that Gannon was no where near where the foul was called, there was an argument that a different Iowa player (don't remember who it was exactly) was in the vicinity and may have committed a foul. I do know I will never forget Lute chasing down Bain through the tunnel!

Edit: Sorry, as I look back, it was Kevin Boyle the foul was called on, and it was Greg Stokes that some argued could have fouled the Purdue player.

Should've probably taken that advice last night, this morning too. It's just when I get reminded of that finish, I get extremely pissed off. Just f'n incompetence. Oooops, did it again
