Sam is going to be a tough dude. Plus, I know for a fact he reads this board. If you can say for a fact you would roll up to Sam and say it to his face, then you have nothing to apologize for...otherwise, just posing as an internet tough guy.
If Sam don't get down on himself he will be ok..Like others have said he impressed me in first period just needs to learn to finish that move underhook but get the near leg. Heck I know he has lost some of that call it baby fat he had coming in..I say If he and Berhow and Bobby T. keep working hard by end of season in March he will surprise some folks.

Didn't stoll qualify for the trials in greco? He must be a horrible rs freshman that will never amount to anything in folkstyle. He pushed the pace and tried to lower his level more than I expected out of greco guy. Remember that it takes heavies to progress a little longer. Muscles developed with age and a 19 year old kid doesn't have the "man strength" or matured muscles that they will by rs senior year. 1 match... don't jump ship yet buddy
Keep training hard Sam and good things will follow.

As soon as Sammy let him get some space, he got a run at him and took him down. I have little doubt Sammy would have loved to win this match, and there was no rule that says he wasn't allowed to do that. But as far as I'm concerned you try to win the TEAM dual 1st, and any individual accolades will have to wait. His job in this case as the Meet Anchor, was to secure the dual for Iowa, IMO. As an unranked(?) redshirt freshman against an All-American Senior, you take the dual win and move on. If Cory Clark ends the meet, it's a different deal and a different set of circumstances, but the #1 "circumstance" would still be don't do anything stupid to cost us the dual while you're trying to help your individual goals. It says Iowa on the singlet for a reason.
Sammy's job was to not get "killed". He did that. As far as I'm concerned he did just fine. Better things to come, I have little doubt he'll get there.
Yes, too bad he couldn't complete a shot in the first period, but again, he was doing the team thing. I was more impressed with the third period when Marsden had him down, Sam kept his poise and kept working to get to his base and keeping his arms free and hips squared under Marsden so that there were not any angles to get turned. He had an important job against a tough foe and he did his job. An individual win is always the goal but a team win especially on that day was more important.

Currently, he appears to be a hard working young man who is learning and has lots of upside. And even if we have another HW recruit that comes in and beats out Sam sometime during the next 4 years, we know we have two guys pushing each other every day in the room.

Eat fewer cookies, not less. Fewer is the proper qualifier for things that can be counted. Less should be used for mass nouns. If you're going to be a jerk, at least be a grammatically correct one. You're welcome.
New here and first post, for one I think Sam did fine and will be fine, excellent Greco wrestler just needs to learn folk style. 2 I know Bradley will be coming soon (I believe at least) and will need time to get back in to the flow after his 2 year mission. Was curious if anyone here knew anything about him, when he will be here etc. He came on strong his senior year in high school and will add quality depth. Not sure if he will push for a starting job or not but am curious if anyone has heard anything about him. Thanks, and GO HAWKS!!!
WildTurk must have been one of the 63 kids he pinned in a row in high school...
I was pleased with his performance. Wrestling your first major college match against a highly ranked senior in front of 40+ thousand fans with the meet on the line is not easy to start your career.

Actually, I would've applauded him for going all out. To me this dual wasn't about winning or losing as a team. As I said previously, I thought this was a fantastic opportunity with little pressure. There was no excuse for Clark and Sorensen not to get bonus. The Burak match was boring. I was disappointed Meyer lost, but kudos for making it exciting. Take some risk, put on a show. No one will care who won or lost next March and it won't have much impact on rankings.
I don't buy this at all. Based on what I've seen of you posting, you would've been among the first to jump down his throat for not protecting the lead and winning the dual. I think this is one of those things that's easy to say now, because it's all over and all hypothetical.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't really have any problems with Sammy's "physique". He's a Big Boy. That part I like. He's not some chump that's just going to sit there and take up space either, near as I can tell. Not many look like Lesnar. Go get'em Sammy!

I think you are looking in the mirror calling out AFHawk. It's YOU that jump down people's throat. But it's easy to do that when you have different names you post under. AFHawk has only one handle he goes by. If you don't consider his Wild Turk handle of course.

With all due respect, he was wrestling a top 4 guy at his weight, and did stay in the match. He'll be fine, I've got a feeling he'll get a big win for us in the near future.
Good news for Wild Turk; Aaron Bradley's back and he's all buff (tough to find a good cookie in Brazil apparently). Stoll looked better than I thought he would. Turk, it's certainly OK to want an explosive, athletic, strong heavyweight. The personal insults to a 19 year old are certainly going to be received negatively. BTW Sammy's gas tank looked good too.

when on top he looked quick like a 141 guy - he is a pinner. As for on the feet - yep - the shaved bear dance (unless the opponent is weak)
we are all on the same side - Sammy needs work (no doubt). Today we saw the potential only - i'm glad he has some talent in the room to make him reach that AA status.

Not a huge differece, but Konrad was a four time all-American.
4th as a freshman, 2nd to Mocco as a soph, then undefeated the following two years.
He is Minnesota's greatest wrestler ever, no debate...
There was no learning curve, he was a beast his freshman year. No developing...
Still can be as goid, but he is no where near where Konrad was at this time. In March, maybe things are different...
Stoll could be the best heavyweight to ever wear a Hawkeye singlet (since Mocco is a trader). I don't care what our wrestlers physiques look like, just win wrestling matches.

Social Media is huge with this generation. All Hawkeye prospects read this board. Have to believe positive encouragement breeds better recruiting. Negative has got to hurt. Think about whether it's worth it to feed your ego, to be a pretender, at the cost of affecting one possible recruit. Think man! Or woman!
I do agree with you. I'm sure the coaches are well aware of the crap that is said on this board and tell the kids to stay away from it and if they can't to remember most of the people on this board have to idea what they are talking about. Me included. As recruits go I hope they understand the above also. But if what is said on this board has that much on an influence on weather a kid comes to Iowa or not then we are probably better off not having them.
