For the record, I'm a huge fan of Sam's. I've been impressed with him so far. He doesn't have to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger to be a great heavyweight. In fact, some of the best heavyweights in history look a lot like Sam. Big and strong -- not necessarily chiseled out of granite.
I think he looks confident out there, and I think he has a decent shot at making the podium in NYC this season. That's more than many of us expected from him this year, and I think it's a real possibility. There's not often much margin for error at 285, as scoring tends to be limited and matches often hinge on one or two key scoring moves, but I think Sam can hang with many of the top heavies out there.
I agree with the above post that talks about prospects reading the board. No, our posts won't necessarily have a huge impact on what happens on the mat, and there's nothing wrong with expressing opinions on here even if they happen to be negative, but let's keep it as positive as possible, and if you need to express a criticism, please keep it respectful and not personal. Recruits may not make their decisions based on this board in any significant way -- nor should they -- but I guarantee that a bunch of negative posts from Iowa fans sure as heck aren't going to sway them at all to join the Hawks. Not saying the board is generally all that negative -- just reinforcing the idea that we might as well be positive as much as possible; it can only help.
