Good move to try to get more students to the game. Really hope Carver is full.

Anything to fill Carver....

Combination of Rose Bowl and school being out is really tuff to overcome.

That's great. This is a big opportunity. Plus, the boys deserve to play in front of a great crowd. Hasn't happened yet this year.

Extend invitations to high school athletic teams w/in 25-50 miles of Iowa City. Anything to get people/fans in the stands. Maybe get in touch with the people that were at the Dayton NIT game a few years back....that crowd was fantastic.

Completely agree. Maybe even further such as Dubuque as lots of high schoolers go to Iowa City frequently anyway. Offer a certain number of tickets to each high school and there could be a huge student section.

They should get in for free ever game. That is the way it was done in the past.. That is until it became all about dollars.

Don't know if that is true or not, but I would rather have a student section full of free butts than no butts. I applaud the administration for realizing the necessity of a crowd for this game and doing something about it. Now, it is up to the students to respond.

1. I think this makes sense, as do the other suggestions in this thread about boosting attendance for this game.
2. I hope we all remember this the next time ISU is trashed for selling discounted tickets.

I remember the Dayton game was suppose to represent we're back, and propel us into next year representing relevancy. I also remember a lot a lotta dunks, and that doesn't hurt.

Glad you brought that up. I went to thast game as an afterthought and was instantly amazed at the energy and excitement of the crowd. You'd have thought it was a Final Four game w/ the way the crowd was into it. I had a complete stranger excitedly high fiving the heck outta me every time the Hawks made a big play and I hadn't even made it to my seat yet. The first 3 -4 minutes of that game are what college hoops is all about. So glad I went to that game.

When it's Christmas break and many of ISU's students and fanbase are across the country attending a major bowl game, then the same rules will apply.

Not a bad idea

How many of them will even be in town?

I would have been. Great reason to leave home after Christmas and head back to IC. Watch a great game, then one day rest before NYE, then the Rose....wait, I would have been in LA. Nvm...

Good idea on the free tix. And for those not going to 40 degree Pasadena! Dang that's chilly for LA right now. While Florida is in the 80s. Good ol El Nino.

I thought that was a recruiting violation? I think the kids have to be elementary (maybe middle?) school.

Didn't weather really screw up attendance for a big game last season? Wonder how this will impact tomorrow

Actually, so much of the program revenue comes from TV dollars now, I wonder if free student games might happen more often. It would look better on TV to have the rowdy student sections and be more supportive for the team.

There should be enough students in the area or in the state that could make it to the game - for free! 15,000 people in an arena should not be that hard to fill.

Be thankful the game wasn't last night. Weather is a huge factor, especially with all the significant games being on TV.

Let's see......shall I sit home in front of the fire with some drinks and goodies and watch the game, or should I go out and risk my life in order to see it in person?

Tough decision.

Agree clone....it was friggin nasty last night. Glad that weather is out of the area........and stay out.

I high five every person that is within 3 seats of me in every direction at HAWK games whenever there is even a semi big play.
