*****Summer Olympics 2024 Games Thread*****

USA went down then retook the lead at the end of the half. Anyone watching?

EDIT: Up 19-12 with a conversion coming now. Let’s go USA!!!

France scores at the buzzer to narrow their loss and give them the tiebreaker over the USA for second place in the group. Means that, at third place, we will get a heavyweight in the quarterfinals.

They put some $1.5B into cleaning up that river. Better only be partially filled.

From the article "Public swimming in the Seine has been banned since 1923, after officials determined the water was unsafe, " but good luck Olympians!
I saw the Paris mayor twice had to postpone her promised swim in the river due to high E. Coli levels 10 times higher than is safe very recently), but she finally did it last week.

Japan is NOT good at Rugby

flash backs to the woodshed game :)
They actually are usually pretty decent, but yeah. South Africa is just really damn good. Knew that was going to be ugly when they hit them with that perfect onside kick for a score.

Also, first Hawkeye appearance in the Olympics in half an hour. Lacasse starts at forward for the Canadian women’s soccer team (NBC Sports App, NBCSports.com, and Peacock)

USA rugby 7s faces Australia in the quarterfinals. 3:30 PM CT today on Peacock and re-air on USA Network at 6:30 PM. Going to be very difficult, obviously.

Men's Olympic soccer is such a crapshoot. U-23 tournament with 3 overage players. It's also not a FIFA break so clubs aren't required to release their players. That said, hopefully we don't get crushed by France today
And yet, we got our arses handed to us.

France are heavy favorites, and we really didn’t play poorly. France’s over 23 players just hit incredible bangers from distance. We’ll be okay if we play like that the rest of the tournament, especially the first 70 minutes when we hit the post twice.
