Just watched Alex Thompsen go down to Isaiah Perez of CA in Rd of 16. In close match Thompsen chooses nuetral to start 3rd. He gets taken down and arm barred. After a couple PD restarts he doesn't seem to be able to get up but Perez cuts him with about 25-30 seconds left to secure tying td at the buzzer. After no scoring in SV it goes to ultimate rideout. Perez chooses top and wins.

As dynamic as Thompsen is on his feet he needs to get a lot better on bottom. It's a problem you see with freshman at the next level but rarely with an elite guy in high school. He's not confident in his ability to get away from good guys which he showed to start the 3rd period.

Ok, thanks papabear maybe it just this old fart here but it sure is hard for me to get around on flo lol. They have a site for brackets and it doesn't show anything.

I've been saying this for two years.

Some Iowa results:

145 Jarod Verkleeren (PA) DEC Ryan Leisure (IA), 9-4
126 Alex Thomsen (IA) FOR Jakob Campbell (PA)
126 Alex Thomsen (IA) TF Xavier Williamson (NC), 21-5 4:48
132 Kevon Davenport (MI) DEC Cade Devos (IA), 3-1
145 Ryan Leisure (IA) DEC Brik Filippo (OK), 6-4

145 Ryan Leisure (IA) DEC Brik Filippo (OK), 6-4

I think Fililppo #14 in the country, so nice win for Ryan.

Also Iowa State recruit Allar of Minnesota is in the semis at 170

Berge beat Glasgow(#5) 10-6 , in finals against Hovis (# 4) who beat O'Conner(#3). Should be good match.

Hovis used to be down here in Phoenix at Seton Catholic Prep. Interesting story: Eric Larkin (Sunnyside H.S., ASU) and his goal was to turn wrestlers into national prep powers and to wrestle with the likes of Blair w/o having to be connected to the Arizona Interscholastic Assoc...basically, they could travel wherever. So Larkin produced guys like Hovis in four years but then SCP reneged and Larkin left. Now, Hovis is at Poway in San Diego for his senior year so we'll see him at CA state. Larkin seems like a damn good coach.

Shit...Thomsen had the lead and needed to ride him out. Instead of cutting the guy when a scramble got dicey, he held on the guy cradled him to finish the match out on points. Same guy he lost to in the quarters

Isaiah Perez (CA) DEC Alex Thomsen (IA), 8-4. going for 5th/6th

Berge had a really slick takedown in the finals, 2nd period. 3-1 going into the 3rd period, Hovis on bottom, gets out 3-2.

Berge gets another nice go behind in the 3rd, and the win 5-3. He has great defense, and counter offense. As well as some slick offense on his feet. Looked great this whole tournament.

So for those that may question why Spencer didn't compete in S32...A. Desanto (PA) was a runner up today at 126 losing to a very good Silva from Florida 7-2. Desanto beat Cadet National champ Jacori Teemer to get there.

Lee TF'd Desanto in the state finals last year in 3:43.

Would have been more competitive for Teasdale
