Supreme Court: Alabama must draw new voting map favorable to Black residents

It was about Democrats....if those black people didn't vote overwhelmingly D they wouldn't be doing it.

Yeah. Those black people should be voting R for cripes sake. This map drawing should be easy enough even us dumb Southerns can do it.

Obviously edited

They were targeted for voting overwhelmingly Democratic. It's more about that than race...

So, maybe they have been voting Democratic since it's been in their interest. Isn't that the way it's supposed to work? Alabama has been so historically kind to the African Americans, after all. Slavery. Lynchings. Segregation.

So, the Rs are targeting them. Sounds so....Republican.

Not excusing anything...the whole purpose of gerrymandering is to win more seats and the easiest targets are AA's...because they vote overwhelmingly D. Doesn't make it right...but that's the why.

I always felt the love of their football team was somewhat a paradox.

LOL, yes.

GOP has badly gerrymandered in just about every Red state.
You posted a tweet claiming the SCOTUS should have blocked Alabama’s map from being used in 2022 and claimed that if not for this “assist” the Dems would control the House. This map cost Dems, at most, one seat.

But even if we give you the benefit of the doubt and allow you to change your argument to gerrymandering across the country, the net advantage gained by Republicans is less than the 5 additional seats Dems would have needed for a majority.

Maryland is one of the most gerrymandered states in America, giving Dems as much as a 3-seat advantage. The last time any Republican at all represented Massachusetts in the US House, Kirk Ferentz was the offensive line coach for the Baltimore Ravens.

Republicans got 3 million more votes than Dems in the 2022 House races. I’m old enough to remember when the popular vote mattered to you guys.

So, you favor all states having maps drawn in a similar fashion to what Iowa currently does?

SCOTUS gutted the VRA a while back, in case you weren't aware....

Am I supposed to believe that cost Dems a net loss of 3 million votes in 2022?
That depends if you don't understand how voter suppression works.
And, for the record, all electoral lines should be drawn in a non partisan manner.

Enlighten me as to how gerrymandering helped Republicans get 3 million more votes than Democrats.
? Republicans didn't receive 3m more votes than Democrats in '22. In fact, without gerrymandering, the Democrats would have a 40 seat majority in the House.

What are you smoking tonight?
Yeah. The results in 2022 were pretty accurately reflected in end house makeup by party. Republicans hold about 51% of the seats winning about 50% of the popular vote for house seats. That’s pretty close historically.

Certainly Democrats have gotten better at the gerrymandering game.

In employment, yes.

In voting, no.

What? The 14th Amendment?

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

By diluting the vote of African Americans they are denying them the ability to affectively choose a rep of their choice. Denying the vote. That’s not my interpretation, it’s the interpretation of the Supreme Court.
