Anyone else deal with this? The afib post was timely as I just came back from the cardiologist. Been having some syncope issues lately. Usually paired with dehydration, exercise and elevation. Saw the cardiologist about it and they gave me a stress test, calcium scan and said drink more water. Couple weeks back was at a baseball game and went out out. Wife thought I was dead. Paramedic sitting behind me kept saying "you didn't have a pulse". EKG looked fine but BP was bottomed out. Got some fluids and sent home. Now they want to monitor my heart for a week and do an ekg, but they still think it's just vasovagal. Drink lots of fluids, up my salt, etc.
Was out the night before for my birthday and had some drinks. Took a migraine pill that am and then a 5mg gummy before the game.
I was probably averaging one episode a year, but had had two this year and both with my wife around. She's treating me like i'm made of glass now.

Brugada syndrome. It probably isn't this but it is the first thing that ticked in my head.

Never dealt with it, but it just sounds like you need to pray a bit more. That should take care of it. You're welcome!

I did have a few episodes of fainting in my younger years. As I got older I had a couple strokes and they found a PFO (a hole between the upper chambers of the heart) in my heart which may have been a contributing factor in the strokes and fainting. Since getting that patched up no more strokes or feelings of fainting. Although lifestyle changes may be helping that as well.

I've had a few ekgs run recently and most looked ok. I was sent to the cardiologist because one my PCP looked weird, but the cardiologist said they just did a shitty job and that theirs looked fine. I suppose the week with a monitor should put the issue to rest.

I have HCM. Saw a Mayo Clinic specialist early on and was told mine is under control with a combination of meds, and that the name of the condition sounds more scary than it is. I learned the term "syncope" during that time, after having experienced that for a long time and not knowing what to call it other than "light headed" etc. I've never fainted from HCM or any other reason, but that feeling is damn frustrating and can shut me down. Also, if I angle my head or neck a certain way that can spark that feeling, but mostly it's the HCM I've been told, would be the main reason.

I've gotten this under control and can go days / weeks without syncope now. I do force myself to drink 2 bottled waters a day first thing in the morning. If I do feel that light headed feeling coming on, I drink a bit more and sit with feet up for around 30 min to an hour and feel better usually (also have some tea combo as described below). One important thing, I think is to make sure the blood pressure is in check. I've felt that can contribute either way, whether higher than normal or lower.

Also, the timing of when I take the meds is important. I read up on them - one I should take on an empty stomach. So I started doing that first thing in the morning. After waking up, and wait an hour before breakfast. The 2nd med I take later in the day. I used to take them at the same time, without regard to food, and had no end of symptoms including syncope. I swear staggering the meds has helped. The one in the morning is for BP, the other is a beta blocker I take in the afternoon (between 3 - 5pm). That doesn't require an empty stomach, but I read that taking this, then eating something, can help absorption so I do that if I can.

I also found some celestial seasonings herbal tea combinations that help slightly. Vanilla Sleepytime (basically chamomile) and Peppermint, together. Also, using Peppermint flavored Altoids can help in a pinch. But yea sorry for the long post, and I think for each person, the cause can vary a bit. Also look into blood sugar, I've never had issues with that, but .. basically.. It's like when a machine is slightly not functioning properly. You have to look at all the things that could contribute - it's not always just one thing or condition to blame - and work on them seperately, and in the whole, you start feeling better I hope.

I am a bit of a fainter. fainted at a concert this spring. I suspect it was related to the anxiety of being in a crowd. There was a point where I was dealing with being wedged between an unyielding group to my right and my own group, which was oblivious to the fact that they were pushing me into another group’s space. The concert lights went kind of crazy (it was a jam band) as I was mentally fixated on my situational dilemma and it set me off; the next thing I knew I was staring up into the angelic face of a 20-something RN who was employed by the venue. She was nice. I had recognized the warning signs of such an episode, but unfortunately recognizing it just seems to make it happen more quickly.

yeah, i'd always had the 'pre-syncope' until this episode. Feel light headed, sweaty, need to lie down. This was the first time I went out. My BP is always pretty low so apparently it doen't have to drop too far for me to have this happen.

Sounds like a much better reawakening than mine, I had a fat guy asking if he could touch my tongue.

Scary shit.

It happened to me one time about 6 or 7 years ago. I was in Toronto at a Greek restaurant with my wife. I could feel it happening and quickly everything went blank. No pain at all.......just a really weird feeling. I wasn't out long too long (maybe a couple of minutes, at most), but it freaked out my wife......she thought I was a goner. I knocked down some dishes and glasses as I slumped my way to the ground. Eventually, I came to, and we left to go back to the hotel.

A bit of background. Prior to our dinner, we'd spent a good chunk of the day walking around the city (at least 10 miles on foot) and I really hadn't hydrated all that well. We also had a couple of drinks at a bar before we walked to the restaurant. I'm pretty sure fatigue and dehydration led to the event.

When I got back to Atlanta, I visited a heart specialist and got checked out. He said it was almost certainly vasovagal. I had no clue what that word meant.

I haven't had an event since, but I've probably reduced my alcohol intake by 90+%. I'm now vigilant about staying hydrated. If I'm going to be exercising heavily, I make sure to have some liquid i.v.'s handy. I get leg cramps pretty easily and the liquid i.v.'s have really helped me in that area in the past couple of year.

I suggest laying off the booze and sticking to your edibles.

My friend had a couple episodes of syncope. Ended up in the emergency room with heartblock, her pulse was like 30 beats per minute. They did an emergency pacemaker insertion.

Yeah, I don't drink much these days, only did that night because it was a birthday dinner. As far as the edibles go, I've read that others have had this reaction, so I'm done with those too.
Have some compression socks I wear if I expect to be doing something strenuous now. Getting old sucks.

That is not been my experience. But if nothing else, you're gonna drop some weight, which you may or may not need to do.

Good luck. It's definitely better to be safe than sorry.

Monitor your electrolytes. Make sure you have adequate magnesium levels. Get your kidneys tested. Seems odd but if you have elevated potassium levels, you can develop a slow heart, aka, bradycardia and these type of things can occur.

My well wishes for you and your family.

Potassium is fine, dont' think i've had mg checked.

No harm in getting it checked. Do post the good news when you get the data. Take it from me. The one organ we've had success treating these days is the heart and it's not even close.....
You'll be fine. Stay positive.
