winning over fellow PA wrestler Matt Parker 6-4. Parker was a AAA runner-up last season at 113.

120 is a great bracket top to bottom. It'll be a good test going up a weight for Teasdale.

This is Teasdale we are talking about. Many didn't expect him to have a close match let alone in the R16. I also posted it as much to give credit to Parker!r

Many more close matches to come. The next match probably being the toughest. If he wins there he'll have Courtney who he has a couple close wins over as of late.

Expectations for Teasdale may be a bit unrealistic at this point. He is a blue chip recruit but he isn't Spencer Lee. The idea that he is going to dominate every talented wrestler he faces is a bit unrealistic. The sky is the limit but there is still work to do

I agree but he's still a super stud. He has put himself in place to win arguably the toughest bracket at the toughest tournament in the country. He's also only a sophomore. Pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

Also he's still only a sophomore. Keep in mind a few months back he teched falled the kid who will probably be starting for Oklahoma State next year.

I agree. Simply responding to the idea that there might be something wrong with him because he is not teching his way through the bracket

This thread is trending moran, imo.

Folkstyle ya say............which style do they wrestle at the University of Iowa again? I think we'll keep him.

Quite a bit of their year is dedicated to both in the room. They also put a high premium on being good in freestyle. All of our starters wrestled it in high school except one (if Marinelli does in fact start).

If a guy wins 3-4 state titles in Texas, TnT or any other coach probably wouldn't give two shits. If that same kid wins all kinds of freestyle titles and beats the best in the country at freestyle tourneys, because let's face it, it is where the majority of them meet...then TnT get to caring real quick.

Freestyle lives matter!

Don't matter when you get to Iowa (better have some sharp Folkstyle skills or prepare to pull splinters out of your ass for the next 5 years). Might matter after you leave.

Actually it does...especially for in terms of getting the younger guys to grow. Why else did we have a crapload of guys wrestling at Juniors or the Universities?

BTW, can you define those "folkstyle" skills for me?

Where else were they going to wrestle? Besides the Iowa room.

sorry chief when a kid loses 10-0 then wrestles same guy and wins 10-0 I have a hard time with making freesyle or Greco the true measuring stick, but I do realize there is some merit.

Sure...getting a kid locked in a leglace and turning him for 8 straight points makes freestyle different. I don't put the same premium on losses. Same with feet to back. But the basics are still the same with less margin for error in freestyle. With folkstyle, riding is the difference. Who on our team is really elite in that?

Gilman: Can't ride for shit...depends on his takedowns or feet to back for pins. Stud at freestyle. AA
Clark: Can ride but the elite guys get out from under him. Stud at freestyle. AA
Sorensen: Can ride for riding time, cannot turn.Stud at freestyle. AA
Kemmerer: Possibly the most complete package; a stud at freestyle. First Year
Paddock: Good at freestyle
Marinelli:N/A; comes from an elite school whose wresters mainly do not freestyle
Meyer: Ok on top, sometimes gets himself in trouble; stud in freestyle
Brooks: Can work tilts against lesser opponents; stud in freestyle
Burak: Impressed T Brands so much at OTC that Brands got him to Iowa; couldn't ride for shit
Stoll: Stud in both styles.

I'm guessing you are seeing the trend. Whether you or I think it correlates is of no matter, our coaches put a high emphasis on it. Freestyle during the summer makes you a better folkstyle wrestler. I've seen it so many times. A guy I wrestled with was even with me one year. He wrestled freestyle all summer...I worked and went to Australia to visit my Mom. He came back kicking my ass the next year.

Wrestlers put a premium on it too. Spencer Lee said that one of the top reasons he came to Iowa was because of Terry Brands. One can't cite Spencer's multiple world titles and than say freestyle doesn't matter. The cream rises to the top in both styles.

If you don't think freestyle matters you are living under a rock. Of course it does. Looks at every major D1 team. It matters. Look at every top hs in let's say In IA. Sep icw FD cblc Etc. What do all of their studs have in common ? Tons of freestyle success and coaches that support these events.

I'm a firm believer if you beat someone in free or folk you can beat them in another style. Of course there are exceptions. Ex McKee

The majority of you guys arnt big Greco guys but it teaches tremendous skills. I get that their are strictly Greco guys but a large percentage of studs wrestle it until college. Ex Metcalf. He was pretty decent in Greco.

folk pays the bills so to speak but freestyle is your potential retirement. Its huge for recruiting. its huge for donors to the clubs.

I also feel this emphasis is a biproduct of the olympic dust up with a renewed fervor by the upper tier programs as sports generally speaking is a copy cat product. also, your ranking services weigh the freestyle circuit heavy in my opinion cause that is where a lot of the studs match up h2h in the offseason. so parents, coaches, athletes want to get involved.

its good for the sports health. does it have transitive property to the college scene, sure it does to a degree. is it the final barometer no way. but the attacking style that you guys founded and has been approved on by this generation of coaching staffs is good from college down to youth in my opinion regardless of style.

Let's get it straight...there is only a few Spencer's and Mark's...Teasdale is not on that level...yet. He is still going to have close matches with other close too high school guys...considering his style. Whoever put all of those studs in the top and the leftovers on bottom was high.

Even then I wouldn't see Harding beating out Picc. He's good. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a 5-8 guy this year.
Harding can't cut to 125, Picc is really good but I won't act like Iowa posters and say he's going to be a NC. Teasdale beat a never competed in freestyle wrestler in Picc (and how did he do that, by freestyle moves). One month later, second tournament of his career Picc beat Wonder Boy Teasdale (by the way he is a Jr now and old for his grade). Just getting some fact out there, of course not trolling:)
