Teasdale already with a tough match

Harding can't cut to 125, Picc is really good but I won't act like Iowa posters and say he's going to be a NC. Teasdale beat a never competed in freestyle wrestler in Picc (and how did he do that, by freestyle moves). One month later, second tournament of his career Picc beat Wonder Boy Teasdale (by the way he is a Jr now and old for his grade). Just getting some fact out there, of course not trolling:)
Wonder Boy? Can't wait for the negative comments after Teasdale wins Fargo wrestling up a weight.

Up a weight? This board has been saying he's going 133/141 at Iowa! Are you saying that 21Guns could be right about his college weight? Please don't tell me that. He's wrestled this weight all summer long. Hope he has a growth spurt, or him and Lee will be in the same weight class. Another early verbal and changing schools. Just don't know why a recruit verbal so early, maybe just to see their name out there or loves a school, but as we see it can change quickly coming into their senior year.

21Guns can't chew gum and tie his shoes at the same time. I'll agree with you, Tognetti, about why a kid verbals so early.

I know what Teasdale's college weight is going to be, but I'm not saying........................

Teasdale with the title...had a close call when he was launched (kid he wrestled won greco), I thought he was pinned. Was able to fight off his back and come back for the win. Now ready for this...here's your difference between free and folk: Gavin would have picked this guy apart all day in folkstyle as he was getting to his legs at will and wouldn't have had to worry about exposure in his positions.

Fought the pin off for over 30 seconds, thought they were going to call the pin. Showed great toughness. Congrats Gavin.

I hear what you are saying. Teasdale looked great with his low level attacks. Typically a slick wrestler on their feat would be more well suited in freestyle as your exchanges can be 2-0 instead of 2-1. I have seen Teasdale wrestle a little in freestyle and he may be a great mat wrestler too. In college wrestling that match could been 11-10 Teasdale losing assuming both can escape each time and no riding time. The 4 nf in college can be hard to overcome especially with having to give up escape points.

Agree to a point...in freestyle, a low level guys like Teasdale can get chest wrapped and exposed for two underneath. In Folk, he has the ability to be more free with his attacks without fear of the freestyle exposures. Good thing though is that Gavin is going to get some big help in his ties when he gets to Iowa so he can do work both inside and out.

Yeah, Teasdale is definitely a talent. Assad out Michigan seemed to slow him down in Texas. I am sure he will make adjustment with his ties as others figure out how to slow him down which isn't easy.

Teasdale beat Parker (13), Mattin (7), Courtney (8) and soon to be ranked Duffield on the way to a title. Here is a clip from the PA title match:

Here is one from Powerade finals against then #5 Pat Glory:

Powerade semis against Matt Parker (13) where he majors him. Was a lot closer in freestyle:

If you don't have Flo, well that sucks.

I watched the match and don't think it would be close in folkstyle. They could wrestle a week straight and the other guy wouldn't get a takedown. I honestly think Teasdale could tech the kid if he didn't have to worry about the weird exposures(the throw was legit but Gavin isn't putting himself in that position in folk imo). I came away more impressed with Teasdale than before and I already loved the kid.

By 2020 the Iowa team will be 100% from PA, and there will be some great rivalries with PSU.

Awesome news! It got pretty old around here winning 23 National Titles with mostly Iowa kids........................................
-----

The real interesting part will be can Cael keep winning titles once Iowa starts grabbing a few more top 10 p4p HS recruits, say half as many as PSU.

It just came to me the former Hawkeye wrestler he reminds me of with his style. Any guesses? It comes from his leg attacks.

I second McGinness. The way he looks, acts, talks, wrestled. I thought McGinness. (Although I would have spelled it McGinnis - thanks Pablow for saving me from that bashing)

Great post here champion hawk. Could've wrestled for a week and wouldn't get a takedown? Outstanding! I took away the exact thing you took away from watching Gavin's matches. I was already high on him with some mild reservations. His quickness is incredible. His ability to get to that low ankle single is amazing. Other dudes know it's coming and can't stop it. He comes up underneath and splits the legs for the finish as well as D1 guys do already and he's still got two more HS folkstyle and freestyle seasons to get better. The other advantage he has is superb conditioning. He's very active and fires off a ton of shots. That tanks only gonna get better in the Iowa room. His mentality seems to be always get off his attacks before the other guy. He never lets his opponents set anything up. Matten, Parker, Courtney, Duffield and Glory are tough dudes who will be wrestling D1, the fact that some of them kept it close with Teasdale should in no way be seen as red flag against Gavin. That's silly, it's Fargo and these guys are studs. Gavin went 8-0 and looked great. We got another hammer coming in boys!!!

Teasdale winning Fargo Jr's 120# against a strong field is impressive anyway you look at it.

Courtney (Az) was ranked #9 by Intermat, and he beat future hawk Wagoner, who some thought might be in the finals by TF. Teasdale beat Courtney 4-1. Along the way Teasdale beat #8 ranked Parker from PA.

All this from a guy who hasn't yet started his jr year in HS.

I just don't think a few of us had a lot of Intel on him and thought he would go through the bracket in a Lee like fashion. Only a few guys can do that in the country and Gavin isn't and hasn't been one of them...maybe just because of his style. But he is getting there and beats pretty much any high schooler put in his path.

This for sure. He his not going to be a one or two takedown a match and hold them off type of guy in college. Plus, he is very composed...coming or his back, he seemed to shrug it off and went right back to work.

Great posts Champion and SoCal. I agree whole heartedly.

Agreed. FWIW I don't think he was ever stuck either, and did a hell of a job getting out of it. Duffield hit the "panic button" and reacted faster than Teasdale did while trying to cinch him up. Nice counter move by him for sure, but Teasdale initiated it and just didn't "hit it" fast enough. No shame in that, hopefully lesson learned regardless of opponents throwing abilities.

Also agree with you gents, Teasdale hit a slick duck under straight to a body lock, where Duffield reacted faster with a quick double overs throw before Teasdale could finish with something like an inside trip or outside. That one sequence in the match was the difference between it being a 12-2 TF for Teasdale, and the 8-6 win it was for him. These things happen, even in folkstyle. All things aside, Duffield hit a dirty throw, and he had that slick exposure for 2 early on and wrestled great, hats off to him as well.

What I also know is Teasdale had a damn impressive Fargo winning probably the deepest bracket there, and I'm as excited as ever for him to get here alongside Spencer Lee for a Dynamic Duo to start off every dual with.
