Kinnick with the new North End Zone, still under construction, looks dope AF. Was sitting section 104 (45 yardish opposite press box) and never heard a better crowd. That new North keeps it all in the stadium. And I have no voice now on account of the 20 straight minutes of I-O-W-A!

How was it in their today? Can't wait to make a game with some hardcore cheering to get a good idea of just how loud the NEZ will make it. I too love the imposing look of the new EZ.

Crowd tried to keep the chant going against Ohio State last year and the Buckeyes scored to disrupt it. Today it was legit 20 minutes through multiple possessions. The Cyclones fans were not impressed, you could tell it shook the Clones on the field, and my wife said it was the coolest “sports thing” she’s ever been part of.

Pic of wife?

The Cyclone band kept trying to drowned it out, but they were unsuccessful.

The extremely loud scoreboard wasn’t even a match.

The chant probably went as long as it did due to the ISU band continually trying to play over it. As soon as the band would stop the student section would, in unison, scream "I"

Also, iowa State has the most annoying band I've ever heard. They play after every single play. Those kids are more worn out than anyone in the field.

That Iowa chant sounded very impressive on tv. And it just kept going and going. It was awesome! W needs some work though lol

As a W, I doth protest this criticism. The W group work the hardest of any letter. They are the only multi-Syllable letter in the chant as well as Ws are the only non-vowel in the word IOWA. And they are also the most economical. Remember folks, you have to buy a vowel or Vanna won’t show it to you.

I sat in the "W" section for several years. It's a tough gig. ;)

Imposing is right. Was there for the first time this season and that north end zone gives Kinnick a whole different feel — looks more big-time. And I agree that it seems to keep in a lot more noise. Very cool. Great job out of the U of I.

Im in the Os and I thought the Ws did a good job.

I was in the south and the game had its moments as you would expect but the crowd is smart and knows when the extra noise is needed. It was by no means at a huge B1G game level though. Good but not off the charts as it has been. I’m excited to experience the first B1G time game especially at night.

This, seems like every time we extend it into the next series the other team responds, almost like our guys lose focus a bit,
OSU and Minn. both times they rolled down the field, just my opinion though,,,,,

I am officially starting to hate my seats. I am sitting right next to the wall and I didn't think it was very loud at all. I was assuming it was my seats and now I know...

Maybe that could be something to do with the mic location? Cause to me in the student section the W's sounded just as good as I & A whereas O sounds week since there yelling across to the other side of the stadium from where I am.
Edit(apparently my ears hear everything loud as alot say the W sucks)

Wisconsin will be absolute mayhem in that place.
Can’t remember which year off the top of my head, but one of the more recent Wisconsin games is the loudest I have ever experienced Kinnick. I do think it depends on your seat, but from where I was, the stadium was shaking, and I could physically feel the noise pushing against my ear drums. (I don’t know any other way to describe that sensation.). My ears rang for 2 days after that game.

Hope to experience that again in 2 weeks.

That experience was Penn State last year for me

I absolutely HATE that they drown out the I-O-W-A with music before the kickoff. Let that thing roll long enough to get on TV after every score. It's a cool+unique thing Iowa does. Need to highlight it!

I'm ok with cranking the muamu once the D hits the field, if we want the fans all screaming at once and shaking the walls.

I'd think that the I-O-W-A would be a little intimidating for teams too! Like we just scored a big TD on you, now our D is coming for you

Totally separate and off topic question: do they still sell peanuts at the stadium and is the ground littered with peanut shells? My daughter has a deadly peanut allergy and last time I took her to a game the dust from the shells (measured in angstroms i'm sure) made her itch like crazy. Wondering if they've cleaned that up before I decide to bring her to the WI game.

Yeah, they still sell peanuts.

I agree. Whomever runs the sound has odd timing. Why cover up the I-O-W-A cheer with music or, more typically, another ad? They crowd is rocking and now lets settle everyone down for the Delta Dental Smile Cam... I feel like there are enough media timeouts to fit in all the Burrito Lifts and Smile Cams when the crowd is thinking about grabbing a Wimmers Hotdog and a Coke.

I couldn't tell this week if my ears are bad, the crowd was that loud or the audio that low but I couldn't hear most of what was being said on the score board or the Brad Banks video before the team came out.

The commercials and other misuse of the horrible PA are mind-boggling, yet typical of Iowa. Nothing like the home announcer undermining his own fans....:(

Don't know if half the crowd could handle the change, but we could alternate the section that starts the "I" by game. Allowing all to attempt the challenging "W".

I thought this would have been cool:

South and west sections start with “Hawkeye”.
North and east sections respond with “state”.

Get that going back and forth, especially yesterday would have been great. MSU does something similar with their “go green! go white” chant.

I commented on this yesterday.

After about 45 minutes of game clock (early 4 qtr), the fans are finally getting into the game with a half way decent “Let’s go Hawks!”

The scoreboard starts blaring some commercial that just wipes out the crowd noise as quick as it started.
