That atmosphere though

I thought this would have been cool:

South and west sections start with “Hawkeye”.
North and east sections respond with “state”.

Get that going back and forth, especially yesterday would have been great. MSU does something similar with their “go green! go white” chant.

ISU does this. Wouldn't have liked it. Not quite as bad as red poms, but I have no intentions of copying an ISU chant

As a W, I doth protest this criticism. The W group work the hardest of any letter. They are the only multi-Syllable letter in the chant as well as Ws are the only non-vowel in the word IOWA. And they are also the most economical. Remember folks, you have to buy a vowel or Vanna won’t show it to you.

The key to the W is think..." what would Hayden Fry Do?" He would take that three syllable word and melt it down to a more powerful 2 syllable "Dub yah!" Problem solved.

The Student section is the I and it should remain that way. They have the energy to keep it going and they have done a great job of it.

Agreed. Environment in a dull offensive game was awesome. The game day atmosphere has continued to improve. Yesterday was an absolute blast and I hope, in time, the the south end zone will replicate the north. It is friggin glorious.

Can’t remember which year off the top of my head, but one of the more recent Wisconsin games is the loudest I have ever experienced Kinnick. I do think it depends on your seat, but from where I was, the stadium was shaking, and I could physically feel the noise pushing against my ear drums. (I don’t know any other way to describe that sensation.). My ears rang for 2 days after that game.

Hope to experience that again in 2 weeks.

Probably 2010 (the Wisconsin fake punt game). That is the loudest I have ever heard Kinnick personally.

I wish everyone would stand the whole game and yell during every opponent’s snap. I was in the O’s and the W was loud. Only thing I noticed was all the empty seats in the NE box seats area (middle section). Would be louder if people were in the seats.

I commented on this yesterday.

After about 45 minutes of game clock (early 4 qtr), the fans are finally getting into the game with a half way decent “Let’s go Hawks!”

The scoreboard starts blaring some commercial that just wipes out the crowd noise as quick as it started.
I would welcome a new stadium announcer, AND I would anyone who has the power to adjust on the fly given the current vibe of the crowd at a particular moment. That was always so frustrating to have the crowd going nuts and then have a blaring reminder to get volleyball season tickets.

I will say, the in-stadium experience overall is much better than it was a few years back ...

Was in the "A"'s (30 yard line, right below the Children's Hospital). I've never heard Kinnick that loud. That I-O-W-A chant was awesome (the W's seemed not to boom like the other three). I could even tell from being 80 yards away from the NEZ that that thing absolutely keeps the sound in the stadium. Visually, it is very impressive. If the SEZ is ever replicated to match, oh my.

I agree. Whomever runs the sound has odd timing. Why cover up the I-O-W-A cheer with music or, more typically, another ad? They crowd is rocking and now lets settle everyone down for the Delta Dental Smile Cam... I feel like there are enough media timeouts to fit in all the Burrito Lifts and Smile Cams when the crowd is thinking about grabbing a Wimmers Hotdog and a Coke.

I couldn't tell this week if my ears are bad, the crowd was that loud or the audio that low but I couldn't hear most of what was being said on the score board or the Brad Banks video before the team came out.
Love just about everything about game days at Kinnick, but now that you bring up the choice of what and when to play stuff over the PA, I used to really dig that tune they played during the Smile Cam thing ("Put a smile on your face. . ."). Snappy, cheerful tune. Not sure what they're playing now, but it totally changes the vibe, IMO. Yes, it's a

Agreed. That said, they could try going counterclockwise if another section wants a crack at the “W”.;)

We changed seat location in the ~2006/2008/(I'm getting old?) reseating, and getting out of W was an honest consideration.

I'm a happy A right now, and I'm happy to be seated near one lunatic who always yells W with the W section.

Maybe the O's and A's should consider helping the W's. As an A, I can never hear the W's and have to guess on the timing.

Crowd tried to keep the chant going against Ohio State last year and the Buckeyes scored to disrupt it. Today it was legit 20 minutes through multiple possessions. The Cyclones fans were not impressed, you could tell it shook the Clones on the field, and my wife said it was the coolest “sports thing” she’s ever been part of.

You're so lucky your wife doesn't know @McLovin32

Never have that problem, we got some guy who thinks it's cool to say W when he's clearly in the A section.

I'm often in the W zone, and I yell Double-YOU directed right at the visiting bench. Over emphasizing the YOOOOU! Carries better.

I think 2010 and 2004 were peaks in noise level under KF. Both seasons had games that were insanely loud. The 2004 Wiscy game was deafening.

2004 was amazing, and the 2nd best Kinnick game in my life (85 Michigan as a drunk freshman).

2004 - How the team started the year, and finished, the lights, the mist, the game, the look on Ferentz's face at the end - a perfect game.
