Bad.... no sugar coating anything tonight or moving forward as they get the golden opportunity and they piss themselves- simply put as others out coached, out hustled, outplayed, out jock strapped ... in every facet of the game. Not a way to send out the seniors as this team is characteristically playing like all Frans teams they do the fade and never go into the tournament (both BT and NCAA) when they do go to the dance I should say. I like Fran and as a coach I believe he’s a good one and is blossoming super late into
His coaching career at Iowa at least but these things need to get cleaned up as Iowa is polar opposite as MSU... they get revved up at the beginning of March and keep the steam going.... as for Iowa they are like a hamster with a broken leg on a wheel going slowly..... just bitter as they had so much to gain from this game and they couldn’t put it together like they played against PSU.

All the wins against top 25 teams (most in the country) doesn't mean much I guess. Put some A10 teams in front of us, I'm sure they are more deserving

I agree but the seeding was already in jeopardy with a 6. This loss absolutely drops us to 7 with a pending loss to IL and who knows on the BTT. Could finish with 3 straight losses which is good for a 8/9 seed.

3 straight loses...then yea, they are probably a 8/9. That would suck. Get a couple more wins HAWKS!

If that’s not a lot to hope for I don’t know what is. We’ve won all of 2 road games in the B1G.
A run in the BTT seems to be the best bet imo. I like the Hawks at a neutral site against most Big Ten teams

Did you watch the same team I watched tonight? Not saying it can't happen but they played like sh-- at home on senior night and now you have them being great in the B1G??

I thought that Iowa looked uncharacteristically lackluster tonight, which was surprising for senior night. I don’t think that tonight was representative of this team or their body of work

How has Purdue not won more games? They have a lot of athletes, they had the horses to win. Iowa needs more including a legit point guard. I felt their spacing on offense hurt then, they needed to spread the floor get some points in the paint. It felt like a log jam in there. They need more curl screens for Fredrick's and Weiscamp. That was like the Nebraska. Anyone watches that tape will cream Iowa. Fran better figure something out in a hurry.

Just got home from the game....and woof. Apologies for the long post, but here I go. Absolutely got dominated in rebounding, struggled to find offensive rhythm and shoot the ball efficiently tonight. I place a small blame on Fran for not being able to scheme offensively when Garza gets immediately double teamed on almost every possession, but it's certainly not on him to knock down an open jump shot when the opportunity presented itself. Refs certainly didn't help our cause, but they also weren't the difference maker. IMO we really need JW to get his Shi* together if we want to make a run this year, we honestly just don't have a lot of offensive fire power outside of Garza. Not a good look when our bigs are shooting equally good from the 3 pt as our guards. All in all I'm happy with where we're at given the hurdles we've had to overcome for the season, but man it's frustrating watching this team not execute and play so inconsistent night in and night out.

Side note, saw the entire referee crew at Old Chicago after the game, took a lot of self restraint not to call them out on some of their blatant missed calls...

Good post other than blaming the refs for this in any way, shape, or form.

This was all Iowa.

Their was a call in the second half where we had some momentum going and the ball clearly went out of bounds off Purdue and they still gave the possession to Purdue that I felt was terrible along with about 10k other fans in the stands...other than that it was hit or miss officiating. Certainly nothing that made a clear difference in the outcome, we simply couldn't hit shots when we needed them and couldn't get a stop or a board when we needed it.

This is why Bohannon is so important. He orchestrates. We have no true point leading the team. Mac and JoeT had several head scratching turnovers tonight. Evelyn loves to show off his dribble while guys are fighting for position.

The moving screen as Bakari hit the shot to finally pull within 10, only to have them go down and hit a three was killer.

I think the refs let way too much go live, but I’ll have to watch the dvr TL be sure. So much holding on cuts and pushing on misses.

6 point swing. Purdue came down and hit a 3. 16 point game instead of 10

Playing soft and thinking way to hard. Let your defense create your offense Joe.
Yep. In an offensive funk devoting your entire mental focus on defense and rebounding is how you both help your team and help relieve the self-imposed pressure of contributing offensively. Plus you might just make some plays on defense that result in your own transition opportunities.

Tough to blame a coach for a lack of hustle to lose balls and working for boards.

A lack of depth due to injuries can't be placed on a coach. This comes from someone who has been tough on Fran in the past.

+1. Our rebounding was brutal. Luka can’t score all of the points and fetch all the boards. We gave up, what, 20 offensive boards and were beaten by 14ish on the glass? I don’t think that weakness has been discussed much but it certainly is an issue.

It's been discussed plenty!
