The art of the deal in action

I'm curious if Trump offered that deal if the Dems would accept.

I think they would still probably want to get concessions though.

Schumer offered $25 billion last Spring as long as DACA was involved. Trump initially said yes, but, Stephen Miller turned him into a sock puppet and killed the deal.
Trump has turned $25 billion into a scrap for $5 billion.
This is why Trump has bankrupted so many companies.

And this is why Trump has been ineffective for the Republicans at accomplishing any other objective other then "pissing off libs".

A stronger more experienced Republican president if he wanted the wall would have said yes and gotten his wall.

A stronger more experienced Republican president would have passed a replacement to the ACA.

But good job Republicans, you got nothing you wanted other than a tax cut because you wanted a guy who would "piss off the libs" more than an ordinary Republican president.

Trump supporters. Care to address this point?

It's so obvious that Trump is not a good negotiator when you hear him talk about the shut down. So transactional and binary. No higher level strategy to create value for both sides to get a deal done.

Trump is a terrible negotiator. He only knows how to negotiate from a place of power and money. When he has more money than you and can simply litigate you out of business then yeah, he's a strong negotiator. When the other side literally has no reason to give into your petty demands and is coming from a place of power like you are, then he just looks like a child throwing a tantrum.

I'm also convinced that he's got some company he profits from who has skin in this border wall game somewhere. The only reason he would fight this hard for it is if a good part of that 5 billion goes to profit him somehow.
