With four more teams joining the BIG next year, I see Iowa's mens and womens basketball coverage becoming more and more diluted. If you want to watch it will be Big Ten + or Peacock. I'm not paying to watch so I guess it's replay on You Tube.

FWIW, I see that happening even more in football also.

Scheduling and logistics are gonna be a nightmare for the winter sports. Do any of the schools on the West coast have a wrestling team?

I'll bet the folks from UCLA and USC are super pumped about a trip to Penn State in January.

There were some rumblings about the Big Ten trying to add an additional TV partner for basketball only a couple of months ago for this very issue. I heard that Turner was a possible partner depending on the NBA TV contract that is currently being negotiated. Fox, CBS and FS1 are pretty much capped out on their Big Ten basketball inventory. I haven't done the exact math, but they are basically adding ~75-100 games just for men's hoops alone by adding these 4 teams since the Big Ten will get the broadcast rights for each of their home non-conference games too. The other option I read that was being discussed is to try and get NBC to start airing games on the USA channel like they have done for the A10.

I pay $4 per month for Peacock......it was an easy decision for me as I dropped the NFL package and that saved a BUNCH of money, so adding in $4 per month was an easy sell.

I’m only paying $6 a month but I’m not sure I want to keep it for another 5 months considering I only use it for live sports. If it was only for the men I would definitely drop it, but the women are must see TV.

Peacock is awful and so is Big Ten +
What's awful about them? You obviously don't remember the BTN+ from a decade ago when they were truly an amateurish operation. They were lucky to even catch the beginning of some of the games and the announcing definitely left something to be desired. I watched the football game on Peacock last week and I thought it was just fine. Now if you are claiming they are awful because you have to pay more to see the games, I won't argue that point. But you had better get used to it as it is the wave of the future.

Well, they only care about paying fans. That is your choice.

I'm sure its not the case, but nowadays it feels like you gotta have cable + satellite tv + internet/wifi+apps (for streaming services) and a radio just to make sure you can take in your favorite team's games. Not to mention all the other CFB & CBB games as well.

Its ridiculous and only gonna get worse.

Just a few short years ago, all you needed was cable to watch all the games - aside from a couple very early BB season contests vs creampuffs on BTN+.

The Iowa women might last another year if Clark comes back, but otherwise yes it will be dumb af trying to figure out TV coverage for these games, especially in the non-con.

I am very disappointed that, apparently, I will be seeing a lot fewer Iowa basketball and football games this season. Tonight I tried to get Iowa basketball vs. N.Dakota St. on BTN. I have four BTN stations on my Mediacom X-Stream smart TV, but no BTN-Plus, so I had to listen to Gary and Bobby. Saturday, I could not get the Iowa-Northwestern game on my upgraded smart TV in Dubuque. Does the University realize there are hundreds, if not thousands of people like me who don't or won't watch Peacock on a little smartphone. Saturday, I also went to a sports bar to try to watch the end of the Hawkeye game, Ten screens of sports, and No Iowa game. This is terrible.

Looking at the remaining, it looks like two more games each for BTN+ and Peacock.

So that’s a total of 5 games not on either FS1, BTN or ESPN.

In order to watch all five it would cost you $20 for 2 months of BTN+ and $24 for 4 months Peacock.

$44 for 5 games = $8.80 each or two ice cream cones at Carver per game
Not to mention that Peacock also gets you a lot of the women's games and like 40 other Big Ten basketball games--most of which are good matchups.
Like Friday's slate--Texas A&M @ Ohio State + Tennessee @ Wisconsin are both on Peacock to go along with Iowa's game. 2 great matchups along with the Hawks--seems worth it to me.

Going to a sports bar to watch a one game would cost me as much as a whole season of BTN+

It's still amateurish. The announcing of both Iowa Games on Monday and Tuesday was brutal.

I miss the simpler days when most all Iowa games were regionally broadcast on a Fox affiliate (Channel 6 where I lived), and Iowa State games were on ABC.
Agreed. Or when I moved to FL in 2004, I just signed up for ESPN Full Court and was able to watch virtually every game despite being out of state. Then the BTN came along a few years later, and the amount of coverage was good with that.

That said, I guess I've reached the point in my life where I don't feel the need to watch EVERY single game. I'm not gonna be signing up for all kinds of extra crap so that I can watch them all, if that's what the powers that be are expecting me to do. $$$$$

I'll just be watching whatever is available to me via YouTube TV. If a particular game isn't available through that, then so be it. I'll catch the next one.

There's a ton of options and you can choose to be in or choose to be out. Not sure why it's that big of a deal to some of you. It's not the 1980's anymore. I don't love it but you can choose to watch or not watch. As @QChawks said the 3-4 months of Peacock is very minimal. I get it for English Premier soccer so i already have it. It's pretty much a good bottle of whiskey and that's it. I can handle that.

Ah, capitalism at its' finest. Squeezing every last penny out of their customer base.

Sorry that not all of us are economically privileged enough to spend $6/month like you can.

I love Iowa Basketball so unless the price to watch gets ridiculous (I'll know it when I see it!), I am willing to pay a few bucks to watch the boys play.

I don’t think it’s the university making the decision on what network their game is being aired. After the B1G told the U or I that they stand to make around $150 million a year, I doubt they really care if you (or I or anybody) get to watch the game.

You mentioned you have an upgraded smart TV. Why wouldn’t you watch Peacock on that? For less than two beers at the bar, you could have Peacock for a month which will have the bball game tonight.

You should be able to watch any state funded(us taxpayers) D1 school play in their home state on regular TV/basic cable.
