well, there are around 3 million people employed by the DOD. they were off .0003%. I'm guessing nothing in your life is that accurate.

Crazy how fluid things are in the Middle East. You’d think being such a stable place these number wouldn’t change from time to time. Wild.

On 23 November 2019, the head of US Central Command stated there was no "end date" on the US's intervention in Syria.[176]

The US Department of Defense stated that there were around 900 US soldiers operating in Syria as of February 2021.[46][177] On 19 December 2024, after the fall of the Assad regime, the Pentagon revealed that there were around 2,000 US troops in Syria, adding that the increase was temporary and occurred in recent months.

"It was explained to me these additional forces are considered temporary rotational forces that deploy to meet shifting mission requirements, whereas the core 900 deployers are on longer term deployments," he continued. "As you know, for many of our deployments, numbers will fluctuate from time to time, but given that this number is significantly higher than what we've been briefing, I wanted to let you know, as soon as I found out this information."

This doesn’t seem like something to be excited about, unless you’re just looking for something.

The Pentagon has been intentionally downplaying the number of US troops in Syria in order to avoid angering Turkey and Iraq.

I'm looking for the Congressional authorization to invade and partition Syria.
Adherents to the 'rules based world order' shouldn't have trouble producing that, right?

From the 50k foot view, how does the U.S. invading Syria to protect a rebel faction differ from Russia invading Ukraine to protect a rebel faction?

I believe there is a reasonable probability that FOX is reporting the part of the story they want their listeners to hear. FOX has always dedicated its news to half-truths and unverified truths. That is a trademark of Rupert Murdock and Co. I’m not saying this story is a complete lie…I am saying it does not tell the whole truth, however.

People think in narratives and are often looking to apply them to situations. "Yep that's just like those good for nuthin demcrats"

How many large multi national corporations could come within 10% if asked how many of their staff was employed or present in a particular country?

If you asked chase, right now, how many employees they had currently present in Turkey could they come within 10%? Absolutely not.

We’re not talking about paper pushers working in an office building somewhere. We’re talking about US soldiers deployed in an active war zone.

The Pentagon knows how many are there and has known how many are there. They intentionally downplayed the number because of ‘diplomatic sensitivities’.

My dad was a REMF in the USAF, specifically CPBO -Consolidated Base Personnel Office.
They have track of where all the people are.
He wrote software back in the 80s, when they were still using punch cards, to match personnel with missions.
The Pentagon knows exactly how many people they have deployed in Syria.

“We were always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had there,” Jeffrey said in an interview. The actual number of troops in northeast Syria is “a lot more than” the roughly two hundred troops Trump initially agreed to leave there in 2019.
