As a Black person and Iowa alumni, this is sad. Referring to Black people as colored has crossed the line. We can have intellectual conversations without resorting to something like that.
Is this worse than pasty white cracker? As a Black person and Iowa alumni, this is sad. Referring to Black people as colored has crossed the line. We can have intellectual conversations without resorting to something like that.
This handle has been around for a year.new bot?
I won't pretend that there aren't a few knuckle dragging neo Nazi wannabes on this site (one of whom reacted to your post already), but what instances are you referring to exactly 🤔?As a Black person and Iowa alumni, this is sad. Is "people of color" a racist phrase? I used it awhile back and a MAGA called me racist. I consistently hear minorities on news channels use that phrase when referring to their groups being under attack. Is it okay to use? Not okay? I know enough from being raised in the 70s and 80s not to say "colored people", but now I literally hear them call themselves people of color. I can't keep up! Thanks! As a Black person and Iowa alumni, this is sad. Referring to Black people as colored has crossed the line. We can have intellectual conversations without resorting to something like that.

Good luck @JasonTAlexanderJR. I’ve been trying to get HBOT to stop using the R Word for 20 years. I gave up. It’s easier to just put certain posters on ignore.
except for the color blind, such as myself. You know, sarcasm can be difficult to spot on a board such as this.
That's why I've long been in favor of marking sarcasm with green text. I think it's a great idea.
i think it's ok because it involves using three words rather than one; also, it might be ok to use the uk english spelling. Is "people of color" a racist phrase? I think people of color is fine because it can refer to all minorities and was never used as a racist term . I think "colored people" is a lower end racist term from the 80' and before so probably best just to use different words. Is "people of color" a racist phrase? People who wear collars?i think it's ok because it involves using three words rather than one; also, it might be ok to use the uk english spelling.(FWIW, i also though 'black' had become passe.)
Seriously Tom, I'm in your boat, and will never forget the day in 1983 that I wished the earth would suddenly open up and swallow the front-end grocery store manager who was training me as a cashier, when in the course of teaching us all of the codes for the vegetables, said "these are collard greens, which you can remember because collard people eat collard greens."
I'm old enough to remember Molly the Mail Lady on Sesame Street explaining to a Muppet what a "Negro" was, so there have been a lot of changes on what is acceptable in my lifetime.I think people of color is fine because it can refer to all minorities and was never used as a racist term . the weather is warming up here, and i'm gonna sneak out for a lunchtime bikeride in the mountains if the creek don't rise.People who wear collars?
Hope you have a good day Ardy.
yeah, it was always strange reading scotus opinions from Justice Marshall, who used that term well into his later years on the court.I'm old enough to remember Molly the Mail Lady on Sesame Street explaining to a Muppet what a "Negro" was, so there have been a lot of changes on what is acceptable in my lifetime.
I did a soil test and was able to get 2-3 inches in yesterday for some dogwoods and willows I'm trying to propagate before i hit frost. I'd like to get them atleast 5-6 inches deep with a little more thaw.... ( where's Arnold palmer when you need him)the weather is warming up here, and i'm gonna sneak out for a lunchtime bikeride in the mountains if the creek don't rise.
Using "colored" text is racist! As a person of Irish heritage, I find it deplorable that you would equate sarcasm with the color green. You know, sarcasm can be difficult to spot on a board such as this.

Dude, seriously. I was being sarcastic and flippant to poke fun at the segment of MAGAts who view Kamala that way.As a Black person and Iowa alumni, this is sad. I'm a Black person and a Purdue alumni and I have to deal with this racist crap over and over on the Gold & Black Illustrated board. They actually try to tell me that US slavery was not race based. They call me racist for just merely calling out racism. As a Black person and Iowa alumni, this is sad. Referring to Black people as colored has crossed the line. Using green text was an obvious dog whistle to racism and was probably a 4chan reference too. That poster should apologize immediately for all the potentially hurt feelings!Using "colored" text is racist!
