The racism on this board is reprehensible

As a Black person and Iowa alumni, this is sad. Referring to Black people as colored has crossed the line. We can have intellectual conversations without resorting to something like that.
I won't pretend that there aren't a few knuckle dragging neo Nazi wannabes on this site (one of whom reacted to your post already), but what instances are you referring to exactly 🤔?

Is "people of color" a racist phrase? I used it awhile back and a MAGA called me racist. I consistently hear minorities on news channels use that phrase when referring to their groups being under attack. Is it okay to use? Not okay? I know enough from being raised in the 70s and 80s not to say "colored people", but now I literally hear them call themselves people of color. I can't keep up! Thanks!

Call yourself whatever you want,.. I'll always think of you as overly self absorbed.

i think it's ok because it involves using three words rather than one; also, it might be ok to use the uk english spelling. ;) (FWIW, i also thought 'black' had become passe.)

Seriously Tom, I'm in your boat, and will never forget the day in 1983 that I wished the earth would suddenly open up and swallow the front-end grocery store manager who was training me as a cashier, when in the course of teaching us all of the codes for the vegetables, said "these are collard greens, which you can remember because collard people eat collard greens."

I think people of color is fine because it can refer to all minorities and was never used as a racist term . I think "colored people" is a lower end racist term from the 80' and before so probably best just to use different words.

People who wear collars?

Hope you have a good day Ardy.

I'm old enough to remember Molly the Mail Lady on Sesame Street explaining to a Muppet what a "Negro" was, so there have been a lot of changes on what is acceptable in my lifetime.

yeah, it was always strange reading scotus opinions from Justice Marshall, who used that term well into his later years on the court.

the weather is warming up here, and i'm gonna sneak out for a lunchtime bikeride in the mountains if the creek don't rise.
I did a soil test and was able to get 2-3 inches in yesterday for some dogwoods and willows I'm trying to propagate before i hit frost. I'd like to get them atleast 5-6 inches deep with a little more thaw.... ( where's Arnold palmer when you need him)

I do love this time of year.

I'm a Black person and a Purdue alumni and I have to deal with this racist crap over and over on the Gold & Black Illustrated board. They actually try to tell me that US slavery was not race based. They call me racist for just merely calling out racism.

This handle has been around for a year.

Good luck @JasonTAlexanderJR. I’ve been trying to get HBOT to stop using the R Word for 20 years. I gave up. It’s easier to just put certain posters on ignore.

Yes I have ignored all these posters. Once you start being disrespectful, you’re crossing the line and hitting a low that I can’t tolerate

People are stupid.

This board is a fascinating case in point.

Most people don’t have the stones to say shit to someone in person. That’s why they resort to spreading bullshit online. There are people in the South who actually believe the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery. You can’t fix stupid.

Btw, OP is referring to me. I facetiously wrote “Don’t blame me. I voted for the cackling, colored woman.” It was a dig at MAGAts. He didn’t understand that and I am genuinely sorry he took offense to it.
